I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!

Isaiah has worked two new words into his vocabulary too and he's using them as much as possible today: "flinch" and "ridiculous" a couple of weeks ago it was "torment".

Oh yeah, Ash, you probably know this but i'll mention it just in case. When I put a clear coat on my nails I always but and extra coat right at the tips after the initial two coats are completely dry. This seems to provide a bit of extra protection from chipping.

speaking of salons. Hair cut and style (with washing included) is $19 which I feel is a really good deal.

well, Isaiah and I just had a rousing game of chess. Luckily for me Mystery inc beat the goblins, although it was a close one. That kid has a tricky end game.

I have no idea what's wrong with the tagboard! GG and I are postponing our trip until the end of the month. It just isn't working out this weekend.

You KNOW how famous my rubber boots are, I have a reputation to uphold for freaky footwear, so this is a crucial life decision.

Of course you KNOW I'm kidding about goading Tyler don't you RR? In fashion news - I did NOT get the pink plaid rubber boots at TJ Maxx yesterday as I simply ran out of time. I see, however, that they have RAINBOW rubber boots at filene's (this in some mag I read at Bella yesterday) so should I pay full price for those? find a dull and cheap but sturdy pair at mardens? or get the pink plaid ones for half price?

RR - since the 70's are in again, perhaps you could wear an ascot to soak up your sweat? I thought the WILAP was ok, but you should come up with things that are controversial then you and Tyler can present arguments and the rest of us can pronounce who is right!

catching up

Well, I too need to catch up- let's see-

Days without cable- 6 and counting
The stupid cable company has still not corrected the cable problem, leaving me with a very annoyed jennifer who is becoming quite aggravated that she cannot get her food tv. If they can't fix it today I will really be in for it, since a new queer eye is on tonight. Please cable people please....help save me.

Sunday night I tried to go to bed at 11 so that I could wake up for the new faculty orientation that I volunteered to help with- however I could not sleep at all. This whole transition to a new sleep schedule is hard. I went to the new orientation program on Monday with no sleep- so fun. We did project adventure activities and low ropes course challenges all day- not bad. However the humidity in the air felt like a soaked wet blanket was around us at all times. So I was totally dehydrated and tired- and to top it off- badly sunburned. fun was had by all?

So today I need to finish putting up my dorm informational sheets, and then I need to begin making nametags that I will have to then laminate so that I can rub off the immature adolescent insults that inevitably appear on nametags (most frequent- ....is gay) you know, for a dorm of heterosexual males that have a great deal of ignorance and fear about homosexuality, they sure do think of it a lot...hummmm. It's frustrating dealing with it- I have a safe zone sticker on my door, and help with the gay/lesbian group on campus, but a lot more needs to be done.

Jennifer and I will also journey to New Milford to get our grocery shopping done- we need to prepare for our entertaining that we will be doing wednesday night- I'm inviting the new dorm faculty for dinner, and maybe the current dorm faculty if they're here. Should be quite an event.

Leigh- I think you should send Tom to the repair place- he should be in uniform and have his gun- like he's going to work- and have him chat nicely with the people- he doesn't need to threaten them- I bet that will get some results. I'm not saying that you can't do it, but unfortunately in the male misogynist world of car repair, these cro-magnon idiots require a male to make them work. Just a thought.
I could always call up and pretend to be a VW company employee calling to check up on your reported complaint- THAT might get things moving. Just let me know.

Congratulations

I just want to congratulate Jennifer on cooking great food for the diet that we're now on- and for working out on the nordictrac and pushing me to stay on the wagon- she's incredible. Getting accustomed to the diet hasn't been easy for either of us, but Jennifer has carried the day.

Oh yeah, very important news, I bought a new coffee pot! It's exactly like my other one as far as function and method are concerned (cook on the stove) however this one holds 12 CUPS!!! SO much more functional than the 6 cup one. Plus it has cleaner lines so it's a lot nicer. I made coffee for the first time in it yesterday and it was a bit weak but today it was excellent!

Headsup: I'm having bridge next week so besides excellent perked coffee what will I serve?

Hmm I might need a consultation with Bob to do my hair. I also need a curling iron since i threw mine away yesterday morning.

now i feel bad about bitching that snoop wasn't in her office all day yesterday.

snoop, i can relate to all your car woes. trust me, i've had some doozies myself. i'm sorry. but i definitely would write to vw and let them know about your history with darlings....if you can't remember all the details, most of them are on the blog.

thanks ltl for congratulating me, even though i haven't made it yet. now i have to really work up the ambition.

a_lo, tyler has all the cooking light recipes because they are connected with aol somehow. thank you though. we found it last night!

Leigh isn't there another VW service place you can go to. I would call VW and have a calm discussion with them about all this. Tell them you CANNOT go back to darlings and have them send you another place.

the product I bought is: Bedhead "Small Talk" big results-thickifier(adds body and volume),energizer (adds life to limp hair), stylizer(defines, separates and controls)

and yes of course I bought myself some product I have to go get it to tell you what it is....

one of my favorite quotes from his speech was his referring to Dick Chaney as "public spirited" have you ever heard anything funnier than that?

hey will you send that to me too?

Well I got the cutest haircut ever last night. Unfortunately my digicam was out of juice last night so I couldn't take a pic and this a.m. I have Major Bedhead, so you're just going to have to wait to see it. Anyway, it's very Mandy Moore, but it looks good and JK said it makes me look a lot younger so there. I'm really gonna have to carry my id everywhere now. I bet I can't even get into an R rated movie.

Listened to McCain last night on the drive home. I feel badly that I've lost all respect for him now. I used to think he was his own man, however we know better now don't we.

I make a motion that RR can stop his hdrotd and instead do a regular recipe of the day, a fashion tip of the day or a "What I love (or hate) about Philly today" column. Do I hear a second?

blog poll: what am I gonna eat this week?

so Sunday morning we got up and had a leisurely pot of coffee and breakfast, smoked salmon, eggs, sausage, rolls fruit, whatever you felt like. I had coffee fruit and a little salmon and eggs. We packed up and took off with a much lighter canoe since we didn't have to carry wood or water any longer, and we had eaten most of the food. The weather was perfect the current was strong. We got really close to a moose cow and 3 otters. None of them minded sharing the river with us one bit. We stopped in chesuncook village and had a root beer float which was ok, then we found our taxi and got driven down the lake in a motor boat where we met the jeep. Karen and I had to wait with the boats while the MEN went for the other car. We talked and napped. The talked and went for a beer someplace while we were sitting in the sun for 2.5 hours. We all packed up and headed for home. I was exhausted by the time I hit the doorstep, however, I did manage to watch some of the olympics. I"m glad it's over so I can get back to my Netflix (or the convention, whatever looks more interesting)

feather on a stick is one of the best cat toys ever invented. it's great for max, especially when he's in ct because he can't go outside but he can still be a fierce hunter. i was hoping that dodger would share with sassy..maybe you could give sassy some of the mice. i didn't know if sassy was into toys or not. max is 4 and you can't get him enough toys...

we had another wonderful day of paddling, well, to be honest it was floating, the current was so fast we just relaxed the entire way. Oh we put on a little show at Hannibel's crossing just so we weren't laying down in the canoe when people were taking photos of us but that's about it. We saw a bull moose and that's it. We found an EXCELLENT campsite just down river from big island. I guess the whole day was another 11 or 12 miles. We set up camp again had a snack, shot the shit, lazed around rested, talked had a couple of cocktails then I made dinner. We had seduction steak and garlic mashed potatoes. It was EXCELLENT. I cooked it on the fire.

Anyway lobster lake would be a great place for a three or four day camping trip with the kids as ALL the campsites have sandy beaches, so i'm going to plan that for next year.

Then we headed out. Just as we left camp what would you know but the wind picked up and was in our face the entire way across the lake dammit.

we all went to bed early as the day of sun and cocktails made us sleepy. Some loud family paddled in around midnight and I was awoken to cries of MAMMA! MAMMA! It's freaky really.

So I stayed awake for a couple of hours and listened to our neighbors yell at each other while they were setting up camp then eventually went back to sleep. We all got up around 7 (slept in since we were in no big hurry). The boys started packing and the girls got breakfast. Oh yeah, I forgot I caught a little fish the night before, which reminds me I just washed my fishing license. Oh well.

ooo the blog emails you the pics too???How fantastic is that!!!

trippin' continued....

Red and Karen loved the campsite and unpacked their gear. Throughout the trip everyone was impressed with my medical preparedness as I had remedies for EVERY ailment that we encountered. Muscle aches - tylenol. Extreme gas - mylanta. I took one dose out of everything in my medicine cabinet with the exception of children's stuff, so if you've ever seen my medicine cabinet you know i have cures for everything from minor scrapes and bruises to brain tumors.

Karen cooked a delish meal of veggies chicken and rice for dinner. We had baby brownies for dessert and we had cocktails at some point. The boys had beer, the girls had mandarin vodka and cran/raspberry juice with a twist of lemon. DELISH!

so we had a pleasant 11 mile paddle back down to the campsite at lobster. It was entirely uneventful. We didn't see ANY other people on the river, no wildlife either except ducks. It was VERY sunny and warm and the current was good so we didn't have to work very hard either until we got to the lake. When once again the wind was blowing against us and we had to kill ourselves to get across the lake.

my sports bras chaffed me under my arm so i'm a bit uncomfortable today.

there, i blogged. happy, rachael?

HEEELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW?

Thursday night we turned in early because we were both exhausted and we fell instantly asleep. We got up quite early because we had to meet our friends at Rippogenus Ranger station at 10 a.m. So we had coffee and breakfast and had a very nice paddle back across the lake. NO wind, NO ripples so we cruised. The paddle that took us an hour and fifteen minutes the night before only took us 45 minutes. We saw one cow moose. We loaded the canoe on the jeep and headed to Northeast Carry to buy toothbrushes (the ONLY thing I actually forgot to bring. I fashioned one out of emergency first aid kit gauze for the previous night and morning brushings). Then we went to Roll Dam where I was to wait with the canoe while JK went back to the ranger station to get Karen and REd. So I waited there alone for 2 hours. I forgot my New Yorker AND my book in my car back in suzanne's driveway so I had a Northeast Sporting Journal to read. Let me tell you that was NOT pleasant. All this right wing wacko shit that I can't stand for two whole damn hours. I was quite revved up by the time they got back, but I controlled myself and didn't rave about one article.

So JK was upset that I didn't get beer, but I didn't so there. We went to the Irving next door and didn't get beer there either. So we drove to lobster lake. Delorme Maine Atlas Map 50. We unloaded all the crap from the jeep. Loaded the canoe and headed down lobster stream. It was a nice two mile paddle down the stream. When we got to the lake it was blowin' a gale across the lake right in our face. We dug in though, and paddled like hell across the lake. (1 mile) We made it fine, with a bit of cursing. We landed at Ogden Point campsite, scouted the camp and rested for a bit. Then we unloaded the canoe and set up camp. We had a bit of unrest when we thought I had forgotten to pack the second tent. However, we eventually found it so I was allowed to live. After we got the tents set up and the airmattresses installed I made dinner and JK finished unpacking. He built me a nice fire. We had camp goulash #1 for dinner and breakfast the following day.

Camp goulash #1

chop one onion very fine and put it over the fire to saute. Add as much thinly sliced chicken as you want to eat and brown it. Then add water and one package Goya Black beans and rice and cook, covered, until the rice is done. Add a small package of frozen peas and let rest until the peas are hot. Add garlic or basil if you want to. Serve on blue enamel plates.

OK so at 12:30 JK and I took off with the loaded jeep and headed for the north country. We drove straight to Millinocket and stopped at the Shop and Save there for a few provisions. I bought Olive oil, some rubbermaid thing to store it in, a couple of sandwiches and Absolute Mandarin. No, wait, I didn't get the vodka because I got CARDED and had left my license in the jeep and JK had gone elsewhere to get gas so I was robbed. GIVE ME A BREAK. At 40 you should be able to have a tatoo or something so you don't have to carry your flipping ID with you every where you go. Of course I did look pretty juvenile in my orange old navy shirt and shiny light blue Supergirl baseball had, but there were gray hairs sticking out so I thought I'd get by with it. Apparently I did not.

OK so now for the pie recipe I got this off the internet.

Bake one 9 inch pie crust, any recipe you prefer or even DON'T LOOK JANELLE Pillsbury crust. Cool completely.

Melt 3/4 of a jar of Polaner blueberry allfruit (or any other brand you prefer).

In a bowl combine 4 cups of FRESH blueberries and the melted jam. Thoroughly mix them together then pour in the cooled pie crust. Chill for 4 hours. Top with whipped cream and serve.

This is EXCELLENT, very fresh tasting and what could be simpler really.

RETURN OF NIMDA

I will try to report the details of the past five days....

Thursday...JK worked in the a.m. and I packed the car. Packing for a three day camping trip takes three days. In addition to packing I had to cook for the trip and cook for the Tri FD cookout on Saturday. I think I already reported this. However, I need to post recipes so I'll do that first.

First I made suzanne's rolls but I put too much flour in them and didn't knead them enough so they were tough.

I also made brownies out of the silver palate cookbook, The New Basics. If you don't have that cookbook Ashley, let me know. I have ONE extra from last year's paper xmas and I'll mail it to you. You NEED it.

Baby Brownies

6 oz `good quality semisweet chocolate
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1 stick unsalted butter (room temp)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs lightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 cup all purpose flour.

Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour an 8 inch square baking pan. Set aside.

Melt the chocolate in a small heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Add the syrup and stir well until chips are completely melted. Remove the pan from the heat, and add the butter. Beat until the mixture is smooth. Stir in the vanilla and the egs; mix thoroughly.

Sift together the sugar, salt and flour add this to the chocolate mixture and blend thoroughly. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake just until cooked, 30 minutes.

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Then cut them into 1 inch squares and transfer to a beautiful serving plate.

RK's comments...

These brownies are for that emergency situation where you need an extreme chocolate fix. They are not for every day consumption. I use the darkest chocolate I can find and a bit less sugar than it calls for because i hate things that are too sweet. If you use nestle morsels and hersey syrup that's what you will get. EXTREME sweetness. Also, when it says cool completely it means cool completely. You cannot cut these brownies if they are even slightly warm. Your best bet is to remove them from the oven and leave them overnight or leave the house for 4 hours so you won't be tempted.

my stock picks are on the money, few, and far between. i'll let you know when i get another brilliant idea.

rr, sept 11 was EXACTLY the weekend i'm coming. bummer dude. and max is 30, and married...though that's a story unto itself. sorry.

as far as karaoke is concerned, i like to let the mood hit me.is it a bobby darin night? is it a britney spears night? only time will tell.

well, last night after we arrived, i resigned myself to a boring evening of unpacking the elitist jeep, doing laundry, and cleaning out cobwebs. i was pleasantly surprised when tyler returned from one of his unloading trips to say that his friend, max, wanted us to go to dinner with him RIGHT NOW. yay, sweet relief! we went to the local italian place, paisans. i had basil chicken, tyler had a grinder (he is grinder boy), and max had calamari and shrimp diablo...funny for a student at yale theological seminary. he's going to be a congregationalist minister. but hey, MOM....HE SAYS THE F-BOMB...A LOT. he's a fun guy and he really tells a story much like our own stanley burgoyne...he reminds me a lot of stanley actually. so i laughed all night. then he came back to the apt and had a beer with us. so it was wonderful...i didn't really have to unpack at all. yay!

Don't worry LTL

Don't worry about Lemur's therapy bills LTL- it means that he'll be hip because it's so very to have a therapist these days. I always think about Nora Ephron's quotation about therapy- "You've been a successful parent if you raise a child who can afford their therapy bills"

Movie store thoughts

Before I offer my picks I need to echo LTL's thoughts- I too would be a terrible clerk, as I would be very snobish- to the point that I might reach for the gun under the desk if asked "do you have a copy of Gigli?"

Now, as I understand it, this list is more oriented towards cool films that most people would enjoy- not necessarily my top ten favs

El Mariachi
Royal Tennabaums
Garden State
A midwinter's tale
Fish called Wanda
Dark Crystal
Cassablanca
To kill a mockingbird
pi
Miller's crossing
Grosse pointe blank

MOM< DON"T READ THIS>

we also watched the final dives of the men's 10m springboard. as mila was talking along about something or other, todd pipes up with 'look at the package on this guy'.......it was the canadian diver. i'm telling you, the guy had a package. he was only 19 so it may have been done for show, but he had a HUGE package.

random thoughts from our vacation

the four of us were sitting around watching the women's 100 yard dash final. they were doing this story on the mexican woman who became somewhat of a national hero, especially for the girls. well, at first we noticed that the woman was not very pretty. then mila started noticing the very masculine traits of the girl....like a pronounced adam's apple. so the question was, do they check gender? i mean, a man would have a distinct advantage over a field of women in a 100m dash.....just something to think about....

file under G for 'graceful'

so yesterday we arrived back in portland. yay, home. amy picked us up and we went to casual male for some shirts. we picked out some delicious long sleeved button ups and ties for my man. they make him look pretty cute. then we went to filene's where i found a really cute purple purse ON SALE. they didn't have the one i really wanted, which was a pastel purple with a square pattern on it, but the one i got is pretty cute. and it came with a lipstick case which i've been wanting because of the handiness of the little mirror. it also came with a keychain that has a purse, a heart, and a shoe on it, so i love that of course. i love little shoes, in case anyone didn't know. then i went to the clinique counter and got some moisturizing gel, which is different from the lotion because it has no mineral oil in it (finally), so hopefully i'll be able to use it without sweating in the summer. we'll see. but it was free gift time, so i got some lotion, some pore reducer, a lipstick, and eye shadow trio, and a small set of brushes, all in a little sage green makeup bag that i don't need. but it's all quite fabulous. thanks tyler! i love ya! anywho, as we're walking out of filene's, i'm looking all over for the car and not where i'm supposed to be walking (natural for me), and my foot falls off the side of the sidewalk, and down i go, ass over teakettle, right in front of this woman. she was so worried about me! but me, i fall all the damned time because i'm a klutz, that i'm laying on the ground laughing my ass off. tyler is a few yards in front of me, so he thinks i collapsed, not tripped on nothing, so he's running back in a big panic. amy's laughing her ass off with me telling the woman i'm fine. we all get ourselves composed and leave.

hello all. neither of us could sleep very well last night, kinda because we knew we were just getting up and driving again. one of those restless nights. rr, i wish i would have had time to see you when i was in DC, but i'm actually planning a long weekend in Philly next month and i will DEFINITELY call you. trust me, andrea has been so busy i have barely spoken to her. she's bought a new house; it's a money pit, apparently. don't be offended, i'm sure we'll all get together when i'm there. sometimes it takes a mutual go-between, know what i mean?

so now i have to pack some more stuff and get to ct. i don't know how long i'll be there. going to be revamping my resume while i'm there too. by the way, i'd like to say that i've done 'editing consultation' for both my sisters' business writing, i hope they don't have a problem with that.

that is Sunday of Labor day weekend. I'm shooting to be back by noon on Sunday. I'll pick up an ice cream cake (which is what he asked for) I'll be shopping for gifts on Monday. I'm sorry if Mad hasn't gotten a thank you card to any of you yet (though I know she has some) she's working on them though. They'll be out early next week.

FYI

Isaiah's birthday party is going to be held at Ellen's camp on Sunday afternoon/evening. She is saving my life! THANK YOU ELLEN!!!!

well i'm sure other people would like it for breakfast, I mean if they want cheese why wouldn't they want spinach.

I have a cut on the tip of my left middle finger and it hurts when i do EVERYTHING (including blogging) WHHAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

I'm packing and doing cooking prep. Last night I cooked until 10:30 but I got everything done. They kids are packed now I just have to deal with my house.

i'm glad that's emily's greek salad and not mine.

alright, I'm off to do some shopping, I'm on the mobile dahling.

There are only two ways I actually ENJOY spinach, no wait, three. The first is RAW in salad, the second is ever so slightly sauteed with a tiny bit of butter a little garlic and balsamic vinegar, the third is creamed spinach like the indians do it, palak paneer or whatever it's called and that's it. I HATE boiled spinach.

No, but I've made a very similar one. I don't see how it could go wrong.

yesterday we got up and drove into georgetown. tyler and i went to a poster store while mila went to the travel agency. then we had lunch at clyde's. i had crabcake sandwich with fries, mila had hot salad, tyler had chicken pasta. then we walked around m street and the mall and such, tyler bought me a very pretty moonstone and garnet necklace that mila helped me pick out. they both got some cd's. it was quite a fabulous day. they got smoothies at hagen daz but i was too hot for sugar so i just had a bottle of water. we came home and got ready to go to dinner. we picked up todd and went to georgia brown. YUM. i had a muddy river martini...lemonade (fresh) with chambord. tyler had the same. mila had a peach martini. tyler, todd, and i all had salmon crusted fillet mignon, mila had roast chicken. i had a scallop (surf and turf only came with two scallops so i gave mila one in exchange for a bite of her chicken). then i had sweet potato cheesecake, tyler had a fruit cobbler, and mila and todd had keylime tart or something like that. we had wine. it was a FABULOUS dinner. my steak came with collard greens that were cooked in pork brine. This sounds gross, but everyone here LOVES it!1 tsp. salt1/2 tsp.pepper1/2 tsp. garlic powder1 4-5 lb. bottom round roasst3 tablespoons of veg. oil1 can (12 oz.) cola-flavored carbonated beverage ( we like Coke for this recipe)12 oz. chili sauce2 tablespoons Worcestshire sauce2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce Preheat oven ot 325 degrees. In a samll bowl, combine the salt, pepper, and garlic powder;rub over surface of roast. In a Dutch oven, heat the oil to hot and brown roast on all sides. Transfer roast to roasting pan. Combine all the remaining ingredients; pour over roast. Cover and roast for 2 1/2 -3 hrs, or until tender. (my oven only takes 2 hrs, so be careful!)This does really well in a crockpot too!!! We usually serve this w/ noodles, or mashed potatoes, to use up the sauce from it, or maybe someone can make gravy?Do you have a favorite cookbook?

Well I got up this a.m. at 5:30 and went for a long walk (to the top of Townhouse Hill), then back to suzanne's and had some coffee and channel surfed. We watched the Isaac Mizrahi show for a bit, then a great movie called "The Alligator People". I LOVE those 50's sci fi shows. I should collect that kind of movie. Anyway, I wish you'd been there Unk, because it was a riot!

Spinach Dip - Great for Summer Parties - WAHM.com Boards

Crunchy Spinach Dip - Makes 4 Cups
1 - 10 oz. pkg frozen spinach (cut while frozen)

1 - 8 oz. can sliced water chestnuts - chop into pieces

1 - Envelope dry Country Vegetable Soup Mix

1 1/2 C. Sour Cream

1/2 C. Real Mayo

In Medium Bowl, mix all ingredients and stir. Cover and chill overnight to blend flavors. Serve.

**** I like to serve in a hollowed out loaf of sweet bread and use the chunks of bread that was hollowed out as a dipper. I use (Kings--??? I think its called) Hawaiian Bread. It's round and is sort of; but not too sweet. Delicious!

How about texas caviar? Or I have a "zesty yogurt slather" that I make on occasion. I would also recommend the chedder and mango chutney that everyone seems to really like.

what do you think? Blog-bleheads?

I still have two movies that I've had since before the Olympics started. Then next week is the RNC, so what's a girl to do...

I HATE it when there are Doritos in the house. Those should be banned.

More bad news for people who like bad news

Hello all,

Well, Unfortunately Jennifer didn't get either of the jobs she interviewed for last week- York was supposed to call today if they were interested and they didn't. I am considering calling the italian "plumbers" that my dad knows in PA and seeing if they can do anything to the stupid people at York.

The day did start off well- we slept late, had turkey sandwiches, and then Mila, Jenn and I went to the movies. They saw "De-Lovely" and I saw "Garden State". I LOVED Garden state- beautiful, artsy and moody with great indie music. Plus Nathalie Portman can really act. A great film. From the negative comments that emerged from Jenn and Mila I guess I made the right choice.

However, as the time passed and no call came, the day definitely became bleh- I felt VERY much like Isaiah "NOTHING is going my way today!!"

Hopefully denial and great company will turn things around tonight.

blogs from Leigh....

BTW, our cleaning lady hasn’t emptied the trash since Wed. and I just emptied the cans in my dept. and took them down to the dumpster in my heels and smart outfit.

Jude is going to be on Oprah Aug. 26th I believe. Set your VCR’s!!!

I could have killed this couple in front of me at Subway today!!!! Will people who don’t know how to function in a society stop taking their kids into public places?!!!!!

How exciting to have a stylist again. I have never played real Mah Jongg but play on yahoo all the time. I've never played text twist either I'll have to check that one out.

There I got an appointmemt with Bob next Monday at 8 p.m. Leigh, you can come with me if you want! I'd love that.

I'm still waiting to hear about the new kitten and what Leigh got on her shopping trip.

Fabulous

I started a purple poncho today for M. I have two rows done. I'll keep you posted. I think crochet is the perfect thing to do when you have to sit in the car for 2 hours and watch soccer practice.

i can't get web messenger to work today and it's pissing me off.

stanley tagged? wow...haven't seen that face in a while. stanley, i miss you!

mila's gone to put her foot over her head this am so we've taken over the apt.

i don't know where everyone is. frankly i was hoping for a little more hot blog action this am.

dawn i haven't called you because your number is on my hotmail and i can't get to it! i'll have to call r for the number because i would like to see you both too! it was a busy weekend, sorry!

I wonder where everyone is. It was another night of olympics for us last night. I made two blueberry pies and pizza for the girls. Kristen is with us all day today.

Sorry Dawn I HATE smores! Good idea if the kids were going though.

Leigh, you need to add Six feed Under to your netflix queue

So, the next couple of days I will be trying to think of fabulous dishes I could cook while camping, so help me if you think of anything. Right now I'm deciding between jerk chicken, seduction steak, and the maple cranberry mustard pork thingy. But I'm sure I could think of something a little more original if you help me as those are really tried and true. I think I need to make 2 dinners and 1 breakfast.

Maddy and Kristen are singing "Our Lips are sealed" followed by "Ooops, I did it again". I'm gonna have to tape this.

Strangers Among US...

Imagine our surprise to have two people in a blue pickup just drive down the field like they owned the place and get out and start walking around. Of course we don't stand for that kind of thing so JK and I went out to investigate. Turns out the THOUGHT they owned the place. We told them they didn't, we did, we were quite sure of it. This was one of those "I can't pay the rent", "you must pay the rent" scenes. "We have an Easement", "you don't have an easement", "well this is what we're going to you", "no you're not", "we have an easement", "you might but it's not here", "we have an easement", "AAAHRRRRRHGGGGGHHHH".

I hate those southern monkey's. Anyway, they left in a tear only to come back and apologize for being wrong after they actually looked at their deed.

...and don't worry about your tires, they won't get damaged. Maddy said you were really concerned about wearing out your tires.

As my calendar is quickly filling up for the fall, you guys need to decide what day the surprise party will be 10/22 or 10/29?

Oh yeah, Tyler I have a challenge to throw down to you and your jeep, let me know when you're ready for it.

Oh yeah, isaiah bought balloons for his birthday and FLIPPED OUT at the movie store when he found out there was a scooby doo movie he didn't even know about. Scooby Doo and the Arabian Nights. Don't worry, I got it, but he doesn't know it.

Leigh - please email me Bob's phone number, I have NO idea what i did with that card.

So this a.m. JK, the kids and I loaded up the trailblazing jeep and headed for our supersecretspecial blueberry place where we picked 2/5 GALLONS of blueberries. No NOT QUARTS why don't you believe anything I say. All thes of one small group of bushes not outside a 20ft diameter. We could have picked a bushel. The kids actually helped and had fun doing it. You would have thought we had taken them to Willy Wonka's or something. They ate and picked and talked and talked and talked. There were no bugs and the weather was perfect. All that picking took us just over an hour probably 1.5 hours. So here we are back at home. I picked 2 blueberry bushes on the island and brought them home and planted them. Kristen is here for the next 26 hours. We are going to make pizza for dinner then have ice cream and I might even make them some hot fudge if I'm feeling up to it. I'm doing dishes and laundry and taking care of all the shit I bought yesterday and filling a basket with camping crap. JK is mowing. The kids are watching a movie.

So you can just imagine how tired we all were at this point. We still had more to do though so on we strode. We got an oilchange for the trail challenged jeep. Then we went to Hannaford and got 6 bags of groceries. Then DQ where mad got a burger and fries. then we headed home. I had to stay at my house due to my severe allergic reaction at suzy's the previous night. I have to stop typing for a few minutes because i'm getting hand cramps. More later.

Off to the mall where we started with beverages. M-orange soda, I the most expensive thing at orange julius Blueberry blast or something (only comes in one size) $4.00, latte for me with 1% milk. We had a coffee break with LEG. Then we split up and the kids and I went to, I'm not kidding you, EVERY STORE IN THE MALL. I'm not even half joking. The only store we didn't go in was the cell phone store and I was tempted. We are in desperate search of a scooby doo baseball had so if you see one please buy it for poor isaiah. Yes we really went in every store, including american greeting so stop doubting me. We really did. We bought soccer shorts, a mouth guard and that might be it.

Oh yeah, we met LEG at target as well.

Then off to target in search of more soccer gear.....purchases: 2 pairs of pants for the boy, about $15 total, 2 packages of 6 pairs of socks $3.99 each, scooby doo underwear, $4, 1 package of underwear for maddy $4.99, warm up pants $9.99, life jacket $24.99, bug crap $3.29, lexan silverware $4.99, fire starter thingy's $.99, 5 gal water bottle $3.99, plastic tablecloth $2.99 I think that's it.

Next stop Bangor photo to pick up the wedding pics. Total $52.19 - pictures to be blogged later.

On to the gov's for lunch after M FINALLY agreed to a place. M&I-hamburgers, fries, chocolate milk, Me - tomato veggie soup with a roll, diet coke with lemon. 1/2 dozen rolls to go, 1/2 dozen cookies to go - total $20.17=$6 tip.

Yesterday I got up quite early (didn't really sleep much at all at Suzanne's) and got ready to head to Bangor. I made coffee I think and had a cup then went down to the Thurlow and watched MXC with Ralph. He gave the kids ice cream for breakfast. MXC was a riot. I loved it, just one more excuse for me to get Directtv. Oh yeah I watched Iron Chef and Celebrity Poker in the wee hours of Friday night.

Went home, showered and shaved, changed threw clean clothes on the kids and hopped in the trail-experienced jeep and headed to Bangor. First stop - Marden's, where we immediately ran into Leigh Ellen and Gram (heretofore referred to as LEG), shopped and shopped. Bought: pumpkin halloween decoration $3.99, Nike cleats for M $12.99, Two long sleeved tshirts $3.99 each, 4 childrens toothbrushes $1 each, a travel kit with nail clipper, tweezer and tiny scissors $.88) I think that's it.

Hmm I don't know if I can blog everything either, but I'll try. Friday night JK and I went to the wonders for dinner. We started the evening with trout pate, crackers and cocktails. We cooked lobsters and had wonderful salads (some delicious greek pasta salad, and the broccoli salad) butter, lemon, it was FABULOUS. I picked and picked at my lobster until it was a big pile of pulp. We had blueberry cream pie for dessert with KC of course, I mean what else would you have. It was the ultimate Maine dinner. The Wonders and Betty were great fun. We left around 9 to get our kids, who had a blast with the Smiths and their new pool.

what we ate at jaleo

two pitchers of sangria, garlic squid, marinated mushrooms, chirizo with garlic mashed, 4 sausage sampler, raw tuna with capers, garlic shrimp, pork with orange glaze, goat cheese stuffed into roasted red peppers, potatoes with cheese sauce, potatoes with tomato sauce and garlic aeoli, spinach with apples, raisins, and pine nuts, potato and onion omlette, carmelized onions with goat cheese, and a lot of bread with olive oil, some pickles, pickled onions, some olives, and water.

So, in case you were wondering, yes, i am still alive. tyler and i flew out of portland yesterday evening. at first, we were supposed to board at 7pm. at 7:05 they told us the eastern corridor was shut down due to storms and to check back at 8. 5 minutes later they changed their minds and boarded us. we got to dc 30 minutes later than expected. by the way, if you're sitting on the wings and you see a flash of light, it is just the light on the tips of the wings...it is NOT lightning, and i don't want to hear another word about it! when we landed we went to mila and todd's shiny new place for YUMMY brownie sundaes. i don't know what she put in those brownies, some fabulous brand of chocolate, but they are AMAZING.

this morning we woke up to todd making us blueberry pancakes. i ate more than i care to report. we then went to downtown vienna to go to the frame shop. while we were there it POURED. that was cool. then we went over to tyson's corner mall where we went to circuit city. tyler bought beth gibbons (lead singer of portishead) and mila bought franz ferdinand and modest mouse because we left ours in ct. sorry! todd bought some dvd-r's because they bought a dvd recorder a week or so ago. very cool. it's one of those you can record vhs tapes to dvd on. tyler is jealous.

then we went to tyson's corner mall. we walked all around looking for a place to eat. in the meantime i went to lane bryant and found some cute black cargo capris for 30 bucks and some cute black sequined flip flops for 10 bucks. mila bought the shoes and tyler bought the capris. i need to go shopping with them more often...thanks, kids! anyway, when they were rung up, both were half price! so i got to look adorable for 20 bucks!

we finally had lunch at california pizza kitchen. we had baja chicken spring rolls, spinach dip, sweet and spicy sausage pizza, goat cheese and roasted pepper pizza, 5 cheese and tomato pizza, and mila had waldorf salad. luckilly, they had some waldorfs in stock. yum.

we came back and had siesta, then we went to the capitol steps show. it was funny; they have a lot of material to work with. tyler boo-ed when the rush limbaugh impersinator came out; the guy told tyler to go to hell. that was funny. then we went to jaleo for tappas, and i couldn't possibly tell you all we ate there but i'll try.

Act really out of it when you go in for the interview. They don't like people that think alot or appear to think a lot. Lie about all the people you know and all the laws you know. I don't see you doing any of that, so I doubt you can get picked unless you're the only one that shows up. The defense sometimes hates smart jurors.

Have some Spanikopita for me Dawn! I'm jealous. Why doesn't Jen call after her interviews? What's wrong with her?

OH yeah, I forgot that I watched His Girl Friday yesterday, starring the Dashing but bad breathed Cary Grant and the ravishing Rosalind Russell. It was cute and funny but I think it's one of those movies you really have to be in the mood for. I give it a 7.

I'm also having a hard time finding my favorites..... I know they're here somewhere.

UNCOVERED at the Angelika

Celebrated film-maker Robert Greenwald's explosive documentary film offering convincing evidence and testimony of Bush mislead the nation into an unneccesary war in Iraq, will be released in theaters in New York, Boston, Washington DC, and Baltimore, beginning today. If you're in the New York City-area, the legendary Angelika Theater will host a special screening TOMORROW night at 7:55pm featuring a post-film discussion with Greenwald and former CIA officer Ray McGovern, one of the documentary's central figures.

I finished two knitting projects while watching the olympics yesterday. Another thing I have to do is get yarn tomorrow so I can finish two pair of mittens I've been making for years (they're done, but for the thumbs). I decided I needed to finish all pending knitting projects before I could crochet Maddy a pink poncho.

but Leigh aren't you proud of me? I chose my convenience over spite and hired her for next weekend.

I called Flora today and said "what are you doing" she said "Guess, it's what we always do when we're left along" (meaning her, hopie and I) - cutting her hair. So true.

WEll, I'm not 100 percent happy with firefox because I can't put the blog this button on my toolbar and I have to keep looking for it, but otherwise I'm very happy with it. This weekend I'll be eliminating all the other experimental browsers I've downloaded in the past month. Regarding frankenfruit, I'm against it too, unless it tastes better than the originals.

Pink

I want the name and number of your stylist leigh if he does a good job. I want a new do and i found one that will look very cute on me.

WELL GOD COME DOWN!!! We'll load up the kid and go to Bangor.

It appears that I will be going to Bangor tomorrow to buy soccer gear. I'm going to take the kiddos with me. I don't know what I'll do tomorrow night for fun. Maybe Leigh would like to come up and watch movies with me or something. Sunday JK and I and kids are going canoeing and blueberry picking. Tonight - lobster at Wondermanse.

i have no idea who mischa barton is.

or brandon davis for that matter.

the shiretini sounds MUCH better than the blogtini. in fact, last night i had a tall frozen pink lemonade with raspberry stoli. it was garnished with lemon. i had it at Uno's. it was fabulous.

my job interview yesterday wasn't quite what i'm looking for. the guy didn't even tell me hte job wasn't full time until i point blank asked him. so who knows if he will even hire me. ah well i have another interview today with the principal and asst principal at york high school at 2. then i'm off to dc until wednesday.

The Shiretini sounds very good. JK and I are trying to work out logistics for the next 4 weeks worth of trips. This is going to require MASSIVE amounts of coffee. Soccer practice went very well last night.

Leigh, regarding your shoes, according to New York Metro..."the style does't matter as long as it's Leopard print"

A-Lo - don't read so fast. I said THERE WERE 10,000,000 not THEY WERE $100,000 !!!!!!!!!!

Kids are so funny. It's fun when they hear incorrectly. This weeks example, they've mistaken "The Lime and the Coconut" for "The Lion and the Coconut" so they keep singing it. Maddy started singing it this a.m. and Isaiah said "Maddy, don't get that song stuck in my head!"

You should ask GG to make you a poncho, she could make maddy one that matches.

I don't know what else is in except fake fur purses. There were 10,000,000 in Vanity Fair this month.

AHH I found the blogger button in the mozilla browser finally!!!!!

Your message about GTA didn't post. I would pick Oprah probably because I've never been to Chicago and she gives lots of stuff away. I, too, would pick price is right. I would want to play the game where you have four price tags and you have to put them on the right item or safecracker. I would win the showcase showdown because I'm pretty good at that.

Blog Poll:

If you could be in the audience of any DAYTIME talk show, what would it be?

If you could be a contestant on any game show what would it be?

JK and I are watching all olympics all the time. It's much better this year. You must have been shocked that Hamm actually did win the Gold hey A-Lo! It was an amazing upset. It was amazing when Yang Wei fell off the high bar. The women's relay was the best event last night I thought. We stayed up and watched DAve. Roosters started at 4:30 this a.m. and I was all wound up from Dean's coffee so I was awake forever after the tv was off. I'm tiyad.

Shi Ann is on Jack and Alley this a.m. I have no Idea why. I have the volume off - oh I guess it's an old show.

I'm very anxious to hear from Jen. I wonder when or if I should call her or if she'll call me?

I talked to Jimmy this a.m., he was in the hospital with heart problems, but it appears he's going to be ok. I miss that old guy sometimes.

Welp, the trips all set. Gram and I are going to take an expedition down route 1 on Labor Day weekend. These are our planned destinations so far:

We will drive to Topsfield and head to Calais then we will drive through Eastport and visit the mustard mill, next reversing falls in Pembroke and then Quoddy Head lighthouse and Quoddy village. Of course it's tempting to go to St. Stephens to the Ganong chocolate facotry when your in Calais and to go to Campobello when you're in Lubec, but you have to resist because we have so much to do. I have to get the map out to make sure we're not going to miss anything major. After Lubec we will head down route one and make stops in Castine, Ellsworth and who knows where else. We predict we'll spend one night north of Rockland. Friday night we're spending with Tom and Angela and we're making them take us to a GREAT restaurant! Primo. http://www.primorestaurant.com/home.cfm

We may go to the Farnsworth if Gram wants to on Saturday but we need to hit Wiscasset around lunch time so we have have a lobster roll there. Then we'll head to Portland where we will visit with Peter and stay in a hotel somewhere. I'm suggesting peter and I take gram out for something casual but delicious in Portland for dinner then we drink coffee all night! Sunday morning we will visit Gram's friend in wells and probably head home. Doesn't it sound like a blast?

My first movie theater movie was Pippi Longstocking at the Grand in Ellsworth. My first drive in was War of the Worlds/Star Wars double feature.

As for the blue gert, I'd imagine it will all be over by Monday. Congratulations to you on sticking with it.

No news from WW on the house.

Soccer practice tonight.

Bridge report:

Bridge was held at the home of Helen. Did you know it was Dean's 80th birthday on Monday? The cards STUNK. I didn't win any prizes. Aunt Faye won High and Goose. I don't remember who was low, oh, it was Gram. The snack was popcorn and the treat was Helen's famous date squares. The coffee was superb. (Dean made it). A good time was had by all. Next week bridge will be at Suzanne's.

The Dominican just upset the mighty U.S. volleyball team!

i like garlic powder on hamburgers and i would use jarred garlic if i had no fresh. i prefer fresh for cooking.

i would take liam to shrek II as it's only about 80 minutes long and he won't have to be too patient to sit through the whole thing. spoiler: they all live happilly ever after.

no nail polish will last a month unless you lay in bed and don't use your hands.

i'm all excited about this potential job because i'll get to pick out a new computer. i've been itching for one, and if i get the job, i'll NEED it. wahoo!

note to a-lo....since tomorrow's pretty much shot for us, we won't be driving in tonight.

Let's track how much soccer costs:

water bottle:$7.59
socks $8.99
shin guards $12.99
tshirt $7
soccer ball $10.99

Total 47.56
I wonder if I should include after practice ice cream?

this weekend we need to buy shorts, cleats, more socks and a mouthguard

I hate both shrek and shrek too as there are too many fart jokes and I think they're inappropriate for children.

Obviously there is no discussion in that department. Real garlic is the only garlic. Jar garlic should be called oily tasting chunks of sludge, and powdered garlic should be called skunky smelling salty crap. They should just take the word garlic right out of those.

Amy does look good in really raisin lipstick. Although I'll bet you $20 she doesn't wear it everyday, which is a huge mistake. I had my colors done once and it was really fun. I walked away with approximately $273 in aveda product picked just for me. Unfortunately I forgot what season I am. I do remember they told me to wear dark green and dark puple eye makeup. I forgot what that is called. How stupid....shadow, that's it, I remembered. Eye shadow. I still have that from 10 years ago. How disgusting is that. I don't use it though, I just can't part with the $40 compact I bought to hold the eyeshadow in.

I think if your polish lasts a month all the women should protest, they shouldn't have polish that is better that they withhold just for men, my GOD women MADE the manicure market for blog's sake. As for Amy, I'll bet she's a summer.

so tomorrow i have a job interview at 3pm in amherst ma. the job is basically travelling to private schools and colleges, teaching speed reading and sat prep skills. doesn't pay much, but it pays more than the job i have now. it pays slightly more than the unemployment i'm collecting.

excellent! rr and i will have a hot dog and moulin rouge night. we will also have something else REALLY fabulous to make everyone else jealous! and i WILL sing along! if i'm allowed...

I don't know, this is going to require a lot of thought, because yoga and pilates are in Veazie. I might have to wait and see what school's going to be like this year and just start with yoga. If Maddy has tons of homework all the time that will have to be my priority.

you never know, i might not be going to dc if i take this job if it's offered to me....ugh. i feel bad because this will be the second time this summer tyler has bought me a non refundable plane ticket that we won't even use....

Where is our leigh anyway? She must be getting ready for the big shindig tomorrow.

OK you're forgiven for not attending the first blog event you're available, unfortunately you will also miss Hobbitpalooza III which will take place when the extended version of LOTR 3 comes out, right Leigh?

I don't think it's you RR, I think it may be Blogger, as I have been having difficulty as well. This does happen from time to time. Please stick with us!!! I'm going to make that fig dish, perhaps I can convince someone to bring me a planeload of fresh figs from DC???

Let's be clear - I do NOT behead chickens for clucking. I behead them because there are here for us to eat if we don't like them.

Blog poll: which was the best decade for pop music and why? You must give examples for and against.

So, I got info on yoga from Sandy and I have all these choices. My first decision is if I want to take a yoga-pilates workshop on Aug 29., now I'd like to do it except that I'm allegedly going camping that weekend and if I don't go camping then it's the folk festival - no , wait, the folk festival will be over because it's 6 p.m., so if these people cancel this camping trip I'm going to be angry unless they do it this week.

Next I have to decide if I want to take yoga on wednesday or saturday, I guess there's no choice , really is there. I have to email Sandy and see if I shoudl take introductory or beginner, probably beginner though. So that's wednesdays, but I'd like to try pilates too and that's mondays, but I can't really do that can I because then I'd have pilates, bridge, yoga, soccer practice M,T, W, and TH and that's way too busy isn't it?

JK and I have had a very slow morning, but I can't say it's been leisurely because the figging chickens have been crowing incessantly since 4:45 this a.m. I can see a headless chicken will soon be on my plate.

That HDROTD sounds tasty but I wonder if there is anything you could substitute for Hot Dogs.

I am, now, officially, a soccer mom! I'm going shopping for my new minivan this afternoon. M has practice again tomorrow night. I got some pretty good action shots last night which I will post in due time. I'm going to start working on the 2005 MI Illustrated calendar so if you have and extremely cute pics of my kids please email them to me (or mail them) I'll return them. Also if you want to be on the calendar list please submit your request. The format will be a little different this year but how I'm not sure. I'll have to discuss it with my production assistants.

Soccer was fun, I got to hang out with Howland people for two hours. John said he officially felt like a parent hanging around with other parents doing parent things. All the parents were there hanging out on car hoods talking about where they'd been and what they'd done since we last saw each other in high school. After practice we checked out Janelle's house and thought that, although it had a few minor flaws, it is a very good house for her, so we hope she buys it.

After that we took M for an ice cream. She - vanilla soft serve, JK - coffee soft serve, me - two licks of JK's. Then we came home. The kids decided to have a sleepover at gram's. JK and I came home and had supper - pasta, hamburger, sauce, and watched the olympics.

Tonight we're going to watch Yokimbo, oh, wait, if we do it will be very late because tonight is bridge.

i WANT to sleep but i just cannot. i guess my body has caught up. of course, maybe if i'm awake for an hour my body will want a nap. that's what it does every other day.

FROM THE BOSTON HERALD
Comcast porn to be wild
By Kay Lazar
Monday, August 16, 2004

Don McFadden was channel surfing for the Red Sox game, but the Salem senior nearly fell off his chair when red hot sex popped up on his tube instead.

Now red-faced Comcast Cable officials are vowing to get to the bottom of the salacious snafu that sent several minutes of hard core porn to countless homes Saturday afternoon on Comcast's 24-hour news and entertainment network, CN8.

``I went by it and said, `Whoa what was that?,' '' McFadden said yesterday. ``Itwasn't grainy, it was super quality film and production values.''

Communications giant Comcast issued a statement yesterday acknowledging the goof.

``We apologize for this unfortunate situation,'' the statement said. ``Within moments, we were able to rectify the situation and have a team in place investigating the cause and taking all measures to ensure that this never happens again.''

But Comcast spokeswoman Jennifer Khoury declined to answer any questions.

I'd do JA but I would have to put a gag over her mouth so she couldn't talk- her voice is so annoying.

That was quite a large chimpmunk that Max brought in today- he brought it right to Jennifer too- quite funny. Then he let it down and it ran away- he caught it again and then Jennifer convinced him to take it outside- he's now sleeping with a huge grin on his face.

I HATE Moulin rouge- I agree with Leigh- the first five minutes and I was done- especially when they started to murder Nirvana songs.

Fight club is amazing- if you haven't seen it, go rent it or put it at the top of your netflix list- you won't regret it.

I'm currently about to go to Portland to see a seadogs game with Jennifer, A-lo and UNK. The weather looks good, thank blog.

GOD! Don't have a fucking hemhorage. No one's forcing you.

max just brought a live chipmunk into the house. somehow we convinced him to take it out again.

you don't have to do anyone, but if you had a gun to your head which one would you pick!

You don't have to go on the day of the tire burn for blog's sake.

Springfield Fair Spotlight Event:

Swiss Roll Eating Contest
Saturday Sept., 4 9:30 a.m.

This wouldn't be such an outrageous event at say 3:00 p.m., but nine in the morning????

No one is allowed to abstain from blog polls. Gun to your head, who would you do?

WLBZ open house Thursday afternoon.

don't be entirely shocked if you see a certain blonde starlette wanna be at the open house on Thursday, apparently she feels she's part of the family and she should be there at Mt. Hope Avenue to greet her public.

I need a nap, I guess it's coffee time.

dd

I didn't see fight club.

are you kidding me? who in their right mind would choose that horse faced whiner compared to brad pitt? as long as i wouldn't have to listen to him talk....

ltl did you get my email?

i'm surprised no one commented on the tire burn. LTL do you want to take the kids to Springfield fair? There's going to be lots of animals.

I hate that I'm a Brad Pitt fan, he's dreamy though.

butter. i'd eat isaiah's toast though.

the village spoiler: it takes place in the present and a bunch of people who met in group therapy decide to move into a pa wildlife sanctuary to escape the real world. they convinced their offspring that there were monsters surrounding them, but it's them in costume. one guy tells his blind daughter all this because her boyfriend's been stabbed and she wants to go get medicine. she does, it ends.

i just read tyler's cat post...ha!

I don't know if I responded to the question posed a couple of days ago, but just for the record- I HATE snakes. HATE them. Spiders are not nearly as bad.

I think Fig is annoying.

I am usually just a butter man for toast, but I do love cinnamon toast. I'm struggling with the concept of peanut butter on toast- I mean, I like toasted Peanut butter and jelly, but toast with butter cinnamon AND peanut butter? Wow.

About Liam- just go ahead and destroy the idea that he has control over his destiny- I mean, that's something that he'd better get over sooner rather then later. I would suggest reading him some calvinist philosophy- He needs to get the idea of predestination. Besides- early childhood trauma is a must for every sucessful adult- if Liam doesn't have a early childhood trauma now, he might grow up to be a happy individual. I'm sure Robert Smith had his blue gert taken away- and look at him now- he's a rock star! Don't deprive Liam of stardom.

Blog poll: the reason that people come near you when you don't want them to is the same reason why cats flock to people that HATE cats. I think your body emits some sort of pheremone that tells life forms "hey- come bother me even if I don't want you to"

re: isaiah's toast

Maybe you should try it for yourself before you call it disgusting. It must appeal to someone's taste buds or he wouldn't aske for it every other day.

RE: SS

I'm against censorship in the US and on the Blog. If you're so sensitive you should implement a free speech zone somewhere where people can swear all they want. The blog has been designated a free speech zone by the President of the United States.

The only censorship employed on the blog is that which may directly hurt someone's feelings, but only if they are someone we might care about.

Honey and a touch of butter is my fave. Maddy likes Orange Marmalade but only smuckers. Isaiah like cinnamon with butter over that followed by peanut butter, and you better do it in that order for if he catches you screwing it up he'll have a hemorage.

Dear Abby

Dear Abby,

One of my daughters, who will remain nameless, but for the sake of conversation let's call her JS, has the nerve to actually use the word "Fuck" on the blog. I am worried about this, as I find it tasteless and very disrespectful. Am I right that the blog should never have any cursing?

Sincerely yours

SS

Dear SS,

You are correct. The word FUCK is very disrespectful. FUCK is an evil word, and if your daughter keeps typing the word FUCK I am sure that she will begin to travel down a road of sin and deprivation. I mean, FUCK is such a bad word because FUCK conveys a very low intelligence. For example, if somebody came up to me and said "FUCK the FUCKING FUCKERS" I would think that because they said FUCK and especially because they said FUCK three times- FUCK the FUCKING FUCKERS that they are obviously the product of a broken home. You should tell your daughter to never say the word FUCK because FUCK is inappropriate. There are SO many better words to use in the place of FUCK like the word "fig"- now that's a nice word, a safe word, a polite word- unlike FUCK which is such a lewd word.
So keep up the good work SS- don't let your daughter say FUCK ever again! And actually- you should make sure the rest of her family members that blog also stop using FUCK because FUCK is such a bad word!

Just say FIG!

Sincerely yours,

Abby

RR - I downloaded Firefox, however it won't load the blog page so I'm gonna have to fool around with it.

Today I thought of one of those Canadian phrases that I don't think they included. I can't remember the language name any longer though. I bet they use "have a hemorage". I.E., "Don't have a hemorage, the blue binky is under the couch". I cracked myself up when I thought of that this a.m., just because it hadn't crossed my mind in about 20 years.

That's an excellent idea! Let Liam nominate though, so you don't have any ties!

Blog poll: what's your favorite toast condiment?

well you'll just have to have a big boy binkie elimination ceremony then. Write a ritual.

Fedoras Fly and Trilbys, Too: Downtown Tips Its Hat to Harlem
By GINIA BELLAFANTE

Published: August 17, 2004

hen Rod Keenan arrived in Manhattan from Kansas more than a decade ago, transported by dreams of becoming a kind of contemporary Charles James, he took to the benighted habit of wearing a hat, a practice that yielded certain demographic discoveries. Generally speaking, his encounters with mockery took place in locations south of Morningside Park.

"I'd be walking around downtown, and people would give me a weird look or say `What is up with that hat?' " Mr. Keenan explained last week at his West 122nd Street town house. "But in Harlem, where there is a long tradition of formal dress, I'd always get a `Hey, man, nice hat.' "

Fortunately for Mr. Keenan, who is one of the city's few custom men's hat makers, such geographic divisions no longer hold. At a time when formality is hardly the order of the day and presidential candidates campaign for office as if the whole of their wardrobes derived from the Gap gestalt, traditional men's hats including Panamas, fedoras and newsboy caps, among other iterations, are experiencing an unforeseen resurgence.

The current issue of Cargo, the new fashion magazine for young men, features a model in a plaid suit and a two-toned golf cap on one page, and another scouring a library shelf in a tweed trilby from Lands' End on the next. Mr. Keenan has watched with some fascination as his traditional hats have turned up in eccentrically minded style publications like Flaunt, as well as in Maxim and Stuff, men's magazines that pay little attention to the foppish.

I guess you can finish the article yourself on the NYT site if'n you're interested,....

For the record, I did watch synchronized diving last night and I think it's one of the most ridiculous sports ever. The chinese are the only team that can pull it off at all, although the Canadians weren't too bad. The Americans stunk.

In watching these Olympics I'm struck by how much bigger the American athletes are in each sport.

we watched the stupid olympics last night so I fell asleep very early. I was in one of those "don't come near me" moods, not grumpy, just didn't want anyone near me. I'm better today.

Blog poll: How come when you don't want anyone near you they insist on tormenting you?

with my kids the binkies lost themselves so I didn't have to scheme to be rid of them. I just stopped buying them. Mind you, when they are first lost be prepared for two days of hell, but then it's over. So that's what I recommend.

Why did this fig question come up?

I made the chicken too and it was great. I added some broccolini to the veggies.

blog poll:

if someone says FIG when they really mean another, less-kind F word, does it matter? i mean, when you use FIG like that, doesn't FIG become the swear?

i don't really give a flying fig.

re: blog product exchange

so far this year i have aquired very little extraneous product. expect a lot of what i got last year as i move around so much i haven't even taken any of it from the bag that it came from leigh's in.

Ashley do you think you might be able to make it to your first ever blog event? - the karaoke night? If you can't you really MUST try to make LRNYE on 12/31. You'll love the product exchange.

OH yeah, BTW, in case you don't know we've decided that this year will be kitchen gadget xmas. Now unlike last year when some of you didn't follow the directive this year you are to present KITCHEN GADGETS to fellow bloggers, I guess unless you gave a kitchen gift last year in which case you may give paper gifts this year.

Tyler was NOT the cutest at the wedding! I mean John wore his fabulous Ralph Lauren Hawaiian shirt!!! Tyler's maroon polo couldn't compete with that.

RE synchronized ANYTHING:

So stupid. Why don't they show fencing and wrestling, that's what I want to see at the olympics. I hate swimming and gymnastics.

Tyler's choice of shorts and a polo was perfect for becky's wedding. If he'd worn a suit he would have been ridiculed incessantly and you wouldn't want that.

springfield fair highlight event:

Tire Burn

(directly from the SF program)

It sounds like a medical emergency, but it's not. On Thursday, Sept. 2, the Springfield Fair hosts its first-eer opportunity for fairgoers to go 120 mph while standing still.

The tire burn is an event where a vehicle is chained down, front and back, only a steel plate. The driver then "stands on it" for as long as he or she dares--or wishes to. Tires may explode, or they may not. Regardless, the white smoke and endearing scent of burning rubber billows up into the sky. Winners are decided by the level of response from the audience, although personal victory may be claimed by:

-Hitting 120 mph on your odometer (140 if you own a ford focus...)
-having your smoke plume picked up by CNN satellite
-blowing a tire with a gunshot-like explosion
-wrecking your transmission (a free meal at the Springfield Fair takeout will be given to anyone driving who is in mourning because of a wrecked transmission)
-cming to the even with EXTRA tires to burn!
The event is beign run by Hogan Tire Co.

tyler did not wear a suit to the wedding. i don't think there was a man with a suit there. he was not the best dressed, but i maintain he was the cutest by far.

Karaoke night at Springfield fair - September 2, 2004!

I'm trying the "Avant" browser. It's very good at blocking popups, but it's a bit slow loading the blog. I'm always looking for a good browser so if you have any suggestions.

glad i could help rr. anyway, i do like pancetta, i was just harassing rachael because i can.

Jen don't be so damned closed minded. Use onions and garlic instead of olives. Use broccolini instead of asparagus. The method is the important part of the recipe.

Pan Cooked Chicken with Asparagus, Pancetta and Olives
Jamie Oliver's recipe

In Italy they use olives instead of salt, as they give a gentle seasoning, perfume and meatiness to dishes.

1 chicken breast supreme, skin removed
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Olive oil
3 slices smoked pancetta
8 medium-sized spears asparagus, woody ends trimmed off
8 cherry tomatoes, halved
5 kalamata olives, stones left in
Handful basil leaves
Small knob unsalted butter
Splash white wine
Slice the chicken into 3 finger size pieces, but ensure that you keep it as 1 piece (fan it out). This will help to cook the chicken much faster. Season with salt and pepper.
Heat a medium-sized frying pan, add some oil, and brown the chicken on all sides. Place the pancetta on top of the chicken and the asparagus around it, let it char a little, then put the pancetta on the bottom of the pan to crisp up and turn the chicken over. Turn up the heat, throw in the tomatoes, olives, basil, and a good knob of butter. Take off the heat once the butter has melted and add a splash of wine to make a sauce, squishing in a few of the tomatoes to finish it off.

Internet Game of the day...

the only thing i like in those chicken breasts is chicken.

I'm trying out a new web browser today as I am so sick of the pop-ups in internet explorer. I'll let you know how it goes. Last night we didn't have any dinner because we weren't hungry so tonight I"ll be making the Jamie Oliver chicken breasts that are so very yummy.

Well this week we're headed into the wonderful world of team sports. Dammit! I should have called CC for an insiders view of soccer equipment! Why didn't I think of that? Anyway today Kristen is coming down for "a couple hours of soccer practice" says Maddy. We'll see.

The two tips I found were "rub your hands on the faucet instead of in the water" and "wash your hands with salt".

Auction bridge

Auction bridge: "Auction bridge
The card game auction bridge is a predecessor to contract bridge.
The main difference between auction bridge and contract bridge is that in auction bridge a game is scored whenever the required number of tricks (9 in No Trump, 10 in Hearts or Spades, 11 in Clubs or Diamonds) is scored. In contract bridge, on the other hand, one needs to have bid the given amount of points to score the game bonus. Because of this, accurate bidding becomes much more important in Contract bridge: Partners have to use the bidding to tell each other what their suits and strengths are, so a judgement can be made as to what the chances are of making a game."

The two tips I found were "rub your hands on the faucet instead of in the water" and "wash your hands with salt".

Sunday, August 15, 2004

last night for dinner i helped ellen make the taters. she asked me to slice up two onions...no problem. when i'm done, i take some of that purell shit and rub it all over my hands to rid myself of the fowl stench of onion. go to the outhouse a few times....more purell. when i get into bed at midnight, my hands REEK of onion. in the morning, more purell. hands still reek. go to rachael's, wash hands, still reek. go to lunch shopping, wash my hands at least two more times, still reek. get to amy's rub my hands with a fresh cut lemon, wash hands....STILL FUCKING REEK OF ONION. what the fuck is that?

so after tyler and ralph quoted every friggin chevy chase, bill murray, john candy, and jim carrey movie ever made, we went inside and watched 'willie nelson and friends' it was good. rickey lee jones--burnt out. shelby lynne--i finally remembered her name. lucinda williams--bad ass. keith richards--drunk pirate.

then i watched 10 minutes of mxc (most extreme elimination challenge). if you haven't seen it, see it. it has a made up 'dubbed' script, dumb games, and lots of falling and bumping of heads. ralph sat alone in front of the tv and laughed his ass off over it. ellen has it on TIvo for rachael.

phew! i finally have the chance to blog! i feel like i haven't blogged in ages. but you know what? i have nothing to say.

saturday we spent the afternoon and evening at west lake with ellen and ralph. my lord, what a time! we sat on the deck, drank, and shot the shit until the big truck race. then we made dinner....grilled taters in onions (made in a grill bag--yum), steak, and chicken. ralph said 'my marination ain't exactly what it should be' but it was effing good steak. nice and pink in the middle, not a bit of char on the outside. then we had german chocolate cake, i bought it at shaw's bakery. mmmmm. then we had more drinks out on the deck because it was just too beautiful to sit in camp and play trivia. i had to listen to ralph and tyler trade quotes from the STUPIDEST movies ever made....snoop would have loved it.

is this amy?

Well we had a pretty nice weekend. Thai food was excellent as usual and the movie was fabu. Saturday we got up and went to pembroke to visit the in-laws. We had nice visits with Don and Norma and also Jennie and Roy, then we visited one of JK's friends for a couple of hours. We then went to Helen's where JK had a lobster roll and I had wonderful crab stew. We both had blueberry pie which I came very close to duplicating today but NOT QUITE. Ah well, I'll keep trying. Today I'm doing absolutely nothing, except I made pie and I'm going to make a fabulous dinner.

It's what you've all been waiting for....Isaiah's birthday wish list.....

Scooby doo and the xmas ghost
Scooby doo goes Hollywood
Scooby doo and the loch ness monster
The Scooby doo “Snackin action” game
Tom & Jerry the Movie
Tom & Jerry and the Magic Ring
A Scooby doo coloring book with glow stickers or one with crayons and paint. (He doesn’t know the names of these)

If you get him clothing he wears size six.

see? I was wrong again. It's called "auction" bridge. Thanks Unk.

I think I was wrong, I think the bridge we play is called Duplicate Bridge- honeymoon is with two players I think.

What are you? 90? Is 10:00 past your bedtime? I don't personally care, except that if you're at the restaurant and you forget something you can order it. But the tables are pretty small at thai siam so you can't get everything anyway. I'm getting eel sushi and dumplings or spring rolls so it doesn't matter to me one bit. Are we going to have blogtinis?

God, I'm so sad. Julia has been such a positive influence on my and I have learned so much from her. I'll have to cook an omelette or a hamburger in her honor this weekend. she loved hamburgers and she loved butter and cream. Now I really need the French Cooking book.

Blog poll: Gas or electric?

We can do whatever your heart desires. It matters not to me.

RE Sleep: I've been sleeping too well lately, well really for the past six months or so and JK hates it because I always used to get up and let the cats in and out when I was an insomniac, but now that I'm a sound sleeper he has to do all that work. Sometimes I fake sleep though because I'm comfortable and then he still has to do it.

Re: masque - In theory I prefer mud masque as it makes your skin feel so good. However, some part of me prefers peel off masque so I always have that on hand. It's just because I like the peeling part, like peeling flakes of sunburnt skin, it's just one of those things. An added bonus is you get to see all the gunk that comes out of your skin so you have proof that it did something.

RE KB II: It's a date.

JK and I are down for Thai Siam, maybe we could catch an indoor movie or rent one.... or watch KB II

Well, our dinner date has been rained out, so JK and I have no plans for this evening. Too bad, as I was looking forward to a night of wine and lobsters. Ah well. I've never had the painful kind of ear infections only an inner ear infection which makes you vomit violently and very dizzy.

I don't think that's pathetic at all. What is pathetic is having to request a surprise party for your own birthday, which is what I have done for this year. I don't think I'll get it though, because if I did it wouldn't be much of a surprise.

Thursday, August 12, 2004

well the kids and I are headed to Bangor, if you know anyone that might like to meet us at the park later call my cell.

Liam needs to get over this screaming and crying or you'll all go insane. He will though, it'll just take a little time. This is 2 years old for you. Does he have a friend that could come and visit him for a little while? Can he be plied away with ice cream or something? How about painting or coloring or playing ball?

We can play anytime you're available, of course we COULD set up an online game anytime as well. But be warned...we play the Honeymoon bridge and not Contract, though I'm determined to learn contract at some point.

I had baby carrots, hummus and diet coke with lime.

Word of the Day for Thursday August 12, 2004

flaneur \flah-NUR\, noun:
One who strolls about aimlessly; a lounger; a loafer.

Burrows and Wallace show how New York embraced the idea of
the flaneur -- of the disinterested, artistically inclined
wanderer in the city, of what they call "city watching."
--Jed Perl, "The Adolescent City," [1]New Republic, January
22, 2001

The restricted hotel lobby has replaced the square or
piazza as a public meeting place, and our boulevards, such
as they are, are not avenues for the parade and observation
of personality, or for perusal by the flaneur, but conveyor
belts to the stores, where we can buy everything but human
understanding.
--Anatole Broyard, "In Praise of Contact," [2]New York
Times, June 27, 1982

Baudelaire saw the writer as a detached flaneur, a mocking
dandy in the big-city crowd, alienated, isolated,
anonymous, aristocratic, melancholic.
--Ian Buruma, "The Romance of Exile," [3]New Republic,
February 12, 2001

Flaneur comes from French, from flâner, "to saunter; to
