Thanks Snoop for the A+++ effort
pictures to follow.

NOTICE

We are playing poker next week come hell or high water - so email me if you want to play.

The weekend in review:

Friday I went to Gardiner to be with the Shoreys. We had a GREAT time, made food, played cards and yelled at each other a lot. It was SO much fun. Anyway, Friday night Maddy and I went to the SEE at 11:00 then went to dd and mcd's. We didn't go to bed until 12:30 but had a lot of fun. Saturday we went back to Donna's to do more wedding prep, then went to the wedding, which was VERY beautiful. Then we went to the reception for a bit and came home. Yesterday I mostly did laundry. Went for a walk, tried to track my wild turkey (and succeeded) and that's about it. We had salmon and salad for supper. I made the kids eat salmon and salad too. It' the end of baby food for them, much to their dismay. They won't eat ANYTHING so now they HAVE to eat what we're eating. I'm sick of them not eating at other people's houses. We tried to watch vampire bats last night, but it was so beyond unwatchable I can't even describe it. They had these ridiculous dramatic pauses for their commercial breaks. I mean, the drama in the laundry detergent commercial was a LOT better. My favorite quote from the first fifteen minutes was this: After coming across a mangled body the sheriff says: "Yep, looks like he was DEFINITELY attacked by SOMETHING."

Duh.

well today i got to work at 8:45 after sitting on rte 28 because of an accident for the second day in a row. i don't HAVE to be at work any special time but i like to get there around 8:30, so that if i wanna sneak out at 4:30, it's no big deal. of course it wouldn't be a big deal anway because i have the nicest boss ever. anyway i worked all morning until about 1, decided i didn't feel great, and came home and worked from bed until 4:30. then i went to yoga where we didn't do anything too special and i really could have skipped. but i'm glad i didn't, because after mila made really good pesto that i love and a good time was had by all. i need a yoga mat.

Well I'll get back into the old routine I guess. Yesterday it snowed here ALL DAMN DAY. It didn't really accumulate, but you should be aware that there was still snow on my doorstep this morning.

For dinner last night we had chicken legs, pasta and carrots. I also made bread, which was edible.

On tv - there was NOTHING on - I HATE wednesdays. I half-heartedly watch Martha's apprentice, then a bit of Invasion or whatever that show is. I have one question about the shows "Invasion" and "Surface". Do they share writers? I mean I know they're on differenc networks, but it's the SAME EXACT story, with the same aliens. I mean don't you think they could come up with aliens that don't both live in the water and propel in the same fashion. The biggest problem for Invasion is it's about a week behind Surface in the plot. Well, maybe that's a good thing because if you miss Surface one week you can watch Invasion the next. Anyway, neither is "must see tv" so what does it matter.

What did you do?

Bridge Report

Bridge was held at Helen's. Due to inclement weather Gram and Lill didn't make it. The power went out, they put on the generator and we played a few hands. The power came back on. The coffee perked 1.5 times so it was extra stong which was fine by me. The treat was date squares. Tracey won high, suzanne - low (I think) and Lora - goose. A wonderful time was had by all. It took me 10 minutes to get home because it was so jeesly slippery.

I'm watching the muppets with Maddy. Young Candace Bergen looks like leigh in this show - except the nose.

eh, they all jump off the bandwagon when the wheels start coming off don't they?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LTL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry you're going to miss the office cake......

has anyone else seen the car commercial with the yuppies headbanging in their cars to 'oy ye como va'? there's just so much wrong with that commercial.

NOTICE

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown - ABC - tonight - 8:00. Don't say no one told you.

You don't blog me anymore

What gives anyway? I know you're all so busy with babies and jobs, but GMAB. Someone better come up with a game pretty soon.

i didn't get to watch the lifetime movie. i got preoccupied by phones and dishes and missed the whole first hour.

True Confession

Junk TV edition:

I love Charlie Sheen. I love 2.5 men. I love the delivery of the lines. I giggle like an IDIOT while watching.

You know, there aren't many bumper stickers you fell you HAVE to have....but that might be one.

they say it's my birthday

...and here's how it went down.

JK bought me the two things I wanted the most for my bday: a metronome and Pride and Predjudice on dvd. Jen: Mastering the Art of French Cooking. (ain't those amazon wishlists FABULOUS). I must have one thing left on it someplace. Mom and Dad: cooking mag, WW & BW: another cooking mag, Emily: Vertigo - which I plan to watch tonight. Dad made me the standard Cherry nut cake but made regular buttercream instead of cherrry frosting and it was a marked improvement.

Thanks to all of you, I had the perfect birthday, sure it wasn't alien space luau, but it was close.

mood: cautiously optomistic

I need to find one of those mood-o-meters for the blog. I wonder if you can get one for individual bloggers. Anyway, my present state of mind is due to this website: http://www.truthout.org/index.htm where you can read, for free, the NYT op-ed's that that they now want you to pay for. Isn't it funny how they started that right before their own editors started criticism of the Times? Just a coincidence I'm sure. Ah well.

I'm back - FINALLY.

Sunday, October 23, 2005

Well, I should admit, reading the tag, that i HATE ice cubes and all things cold really. I hate cold food especially. Room temperature is fine for most thing, except leftovers, but never cold.

speaking of the worst songs ever written.............

anyone heard the new madonna song?

perhaps the worst song ever written

"something to be proud of" by montgomery gentry, is certainly NOT a song to be proud of. i was embarassed for them watching the video.

i am embarassed to admit it, but i am looking forward to the miniseries "human trafficking" premiering on Lifetime, monday at 9pm.

happy birthday RK!!!

for your birthday i hope you get your dsl back, since i know that is what you want the most.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Tuesday, 8pm, ABC.

reason #15 not to work in public schools

this week i got a 19" panel monitor and an optical cordless rechargeable mouse. now i don't really know how i worked without either of these things.

in this area we have these permanent canada geese. they just don't migrate--there's lots of food here, lots of fake ponds, it's home. well today i saw this truck called "geese police" and their motto is :"get the flock out".....that cracked me up on a rainy friday.

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

i was wondering where you were--you hadn't called or anything! i was fearing the worst, of course. anywho...last night mila made us a FABULOUS dinner of black bean soup, cornbread, and salad, with intense chocolate cookies and vanilla ice cream. and we had wine. i'm full just thinking about it. i saw this girl who went to africa with mila (she went to college with us) and i haven't seen her in around 7 years. she's exactly the same. a very good time was had by all.

well apparently i just had to bitch about it for it to work....

It's so irritating when you blog then it doesn't post. I mean, you type 6 paragraphs hit "publish" then there's nothing. Anyway, I'm basically without internet and I gave you all the details yesterday in a nonpublished post. Hopefully you'll all catch the message as it's floating arount the cosmos. I'm hoping to have my net back today at some point.

I AM INCOMMUNICADO

...well, it seems like it anyway. You know, without internet you really are at the ends of the earth when you live in burlington. No blog, no huffington post, no nyt, no smirking chimp, no yahoo messenger, no poker, I mean, that's pretty much life, so at this point there's not much to it is there. So what's the problem you ask? HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW! GAWD! YOU PEOPLE! I spent three phone calls today holding for 14 minutes or more. IMagine how thrilled I was to talke to a person at midmaine during the fourth call, after only an 8 minute hold. We talked. We tested. We set settings. We tested. We plugged, unplugged, plugged and unplugged, changed settings and tested some more. They feel that it is something wrong in Bangor and they're gonna get right on it - well - they WERE anyway, until their server crashed in the middle of the "trouble ticket" and the very nice geek I was talking to couldn't remember who I was so my service problem basically went into the black abyss. Luckily I had sense enough to call back around 4 to see what was going on. "OH YOU, we were hoping you'd call back." They'll "call be back by Friday" if it isn't fixed. GMAB. PLEASE VERIZON -COME TO BURLINGTON. I had a lovely visit with Emily and Sinead, Sean and Liam yesterday. Sinead and I had a pretty good cuddle. Liam is coming to visit me tomorrow. I'm so excited. Maybe we'll carve pumpkins or something.

That's my life, you'll have to actually call me if you want to deal with me this week, I'm afraid.

i'm certain it's the new doctor--that was too easy. why do they have to make matt such a freakshow? i liked him in season 1.

i didn't have internet access all last night. that was boring. i had to watch nip/tuck by myself--do you know who the carver is yet, snoop?

Sunday, October 16, 2005

by the way, you know those awesome dishes you all helped me get at mardens? you can't find a place setting for less than $100 on the net. i'm glad i got 6.

Let's see, i know i had a bunch of stuff to say but i've forgotten it. typical. congrats to the callahans; those are some cute kids you people have. i have been SO busy at work. i worked until 11 on wednesday, 12:30 on thursday, and i got to work at 7:45 friday. craziness.

both apprentices are practically unwatchable this year, which is sad. without tv, my nights are pretty boring boring boring.

this weekend has been the typical stuff--food tv, laundry, sleeping late, etc.

i'm reading 'jonathan strange and dr. norrell". it's about magicians during the napoleonic era. it's a fine story, but it moves a little slow.

Note to those who have been in the physical presence of the new child:

WE STILL haven't seen a pic of this kid. Now - I know you've all taken pictures, have digicam or scanners; computers and internet connections. What POSSIBLE explanation do you have for not emailing me a photo to post on the blog? Please remedy the situation ASAP, because, quite frankly, as admin, I'm getting a lot of hatemail for not having posted one yet.

MFH

Is this kid going to become an Electrical Engineer? Because I'm kind of insisting on that at this point.

What's the boys last name? Because it has to sound good, like Albright, that would be a good last name for her.

What celebrity does he most resemble?

Thursday, October 13, 2005

I certainly hope someone emails me a picture before too long....

Tuesday, October 11, 2005

Happy Birthday!!!

Sinead Callahan!!!!! 7lbs 14 oz.

Congratulations Emily and Sean!!

Adventures in Genealogy

Did you know that Maddy and Isaiah's Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather was Abraham Lincoln's Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather? Isn't that trivial? His name was Samuel LIncoln

also it would be good because i have no plans this weekend so I could come get liam if he wants to visit me.

That sounds reasonable to me.

and btw...are those people celebrities? Gmab.

I guess going by that method I'd pick the 12th. I'll pick Pavorotti over Nana Mouskouri every time.

I'm sorry about your husband. He shouldn't act that way when shopping. I always tell mine that you can have one thing, and if you act bad you can't even have that. That always works cause he likes his beer you know? I think 10/14 is a good round number. You should see what celebrities were born on those days, rank them, and pick the d.o.b. by what date get the highest rank. You'd rather have her born on Charlie Sheen's bday than GW's after all.

Tis the season:

Holiday catalogs received to date:

LL Bean 2 (today)
Land's End 1
Harry and David 1

Blog Poll:

What do you hate the most about your local grocery store? What do you hate the most about grocery shopping?

I hate that my local Hannaford doesn't consistantly have the same items, or when that they sometimes lie to you. For example: Some friends of mine went to the Lincoln Hannaford on Saturday looking for Cilantro. They were actually told by the grocery person that they DID HAVE cilantro but there was a "run on it" that morning. Give me a break. I'm peeved at them at the moment because I bought an extremely poor quality bunch of bananas through no fault of my own. I mean they looked fine but they've ripened to be completely nasty. You can't eat them, and you know, I love a good banana. Anywho.....

Now aren't you glad you sat through that game last week? You knew ALL the players!!! Hooray for football!

Happy Birthday Aunt LORA!!!!

I agree with you both re: baseball. The only thing baseball is good for is providing a nice 3-4 hour quiet stretch for you to take a nap. Of course, this does come from someone who thinks golf is thrilling, so you can take it for what it's worth. Plans for the week?

i would rather watch paint dry than watch baseball on tv. i realize, once again, i am the only one in this group who agrees with me. maybe RR...who knows. anyway, work has slowed down a LOT, thank blog, and i was actually bored yesterday. ltl i'm glad you're feeling better. i have been wanting to call you but i have a hard time deciding if you're busy or sleeping, which i assume at this point you are one or the other most of the time.

i don't feel so exhausted now. i know you're all relieved.

another day of being exhausted.i don't know what's going on.

question

What DO Canadians eat for CTG?

Columbus day shouldn't be a holiday anyway. Hopefully someone will recognize that at some point. My in-laws are coming today. I've made bread, pie and fish chowdah. So snoop come on up if you want soup when you get home.

i'm working today. i doubt anyone else is except snoop, who i already discussed this with.

Sunday, October 09, 2005

i have been exhausted all weekend. i suspect it is because the sun hasn't come out. and it's not supposed to come out until next saturday---i'm going to need a LOT of venti pumpkin spice lattes to fill the void.

this weekend andrea came down to visit. i got a CUTE winter jacket...SO cute..though my purple scarf isn't going to match it at all. i also bought a fall jacket that i think i'll actually use more than the winter one down here. i got some fall and winter work shoes, a watch by fossil, and some big sexy hair (spray and play harder) hair spray. speaking of hair spray i have VERY LITTLE product for product exchange this year.

Friday, October 07, 2005

poor Emily, where the hell have you been? I assume you're completely exhausted and napping every second you don't have a phone call. Do they let you nap at work?

No - noone sang Me and Bobby McGee. Maybe you'll stop in next week on your way home and sing it for us.

Last night Orlie and I went out on the town. We went to the Amadamast Grange Jam!!! It was SO much fun. It was a full house and a crowd just dying to party, let me tell you.

The evening started with Orlie reluctantly agreeing to go, and though he took he guitar he had no intentions of playing. In fact he said. "I don't know how long I'll stay, but we'll check it out." Well. As soon as Scott got going Orlie decided he needed his guitar, you know, that thing needs a name. Anyway. The evening started with Scott Shorey (of Double Nickel fame) who sang some ol country thing that I can't remember right now. There were about 15 other people there playing along and taking turns singing. The hightlight was DEFINITELY the lovely fiddle player from Patten. I think her name was Rose, but that might be someone else. There was a large and talented contingent from Lee and Springfield who ALL delighted us with their talents. Plenty of Merle, Johnny and Elvis for everyone's delight.

Now, you know, I don't know ANYONE. So I talked with Gib Shorey all night. We discussed the people we didn't know and why we didn't know them, and evedropped on other people's conversations of who THEY didn't know. Some guy gave me a gigantic hug and lifted me right off the ground and said he'd been just waiting to see me. Aparrently that was Aunt Faye's brother. He looked really familiar but I just figured it was some Bowers or Jipson that I should have really known. Anyway, I gave him a big hug back.

AVVGTWHBA, I had a hot dog and there was FREE COFFEE. YOu gotta love that. Kudos to Doris and Faye who pulled the entire affair off BRILLIANTLY. The next one is two weeks from yesterday. Channel 2 should probably be there.

Oh, BTW, Orlie sang some song about Sammy Martin's Gin that I'd never heard of before. I'm not sure he didn't make it up on the spot, and I kept thinking he was saying Sammy PORTER's gin, so I got Gib laughin about that.

So, Emily, only 12 days until the BIG day. Are you going to blog from the delivery room?

The puppy's name is "Manny" - named for Ramirez I assume, but I don't know. He really does look like Manny Ramirez though don't you think?

i want a puppy!

not really though. today i'm listening to weezer's blue album and trying to avoid work by being on the phone. it's a good tactic because people who walk into your office to ask you to do something THINK you're already busy, even if you are giggling and tee-heeing.

Unk's new puppy! Isn't it sweet? Don't show any children. Posted by Picasa

I vote for Saturday, but apparently my in-laws are coming some time this weekend, so I'll have to plan around that. I'll know tomorrow I'd wagah.

waterchestnuts suck ass. that's for you mom.

i didn't make anything fabulous this weekend, though i thought about it.

i have nothing to blog either. my life these days is routine and quiet.

Christopher Walken for president?

This is NOT an official endorsement, merely an informational link. Click above.

I'll let you know by Thursday. Quite frankly the comings and goings of my family are such that I need a couple of days to recoup and start thinking about it again. I thought we were going to The Aristocrats?

OH SURE!!! Blog one day and get all self-riteous like. I've been very busy watching season 4 disc 2 of Curb. I don't have time to blog. there are GIGANTIC moosetracks in my road today.

still crazy after all these years

Happy birthday to andrea--eat some cake for me!

You must all tell me what color you want your xmas gifts to be as I'm starting them. Except you Jen, I already picked your color.

Weekend in Review

Friday night we visited Jelly and Jam. We had a fabulously fun evening. They made GREAT pizza and we drank a lot of wine and caught up. AVVGTWHBA. After the meal the boys played guitar and I guess Jam and I just talked. Then I got to play Jerry's Martin guitar. I don't know if it was allowed or not, but I just grabbed it and did my fabulous renditions of "Silver Tongued Devil", "Pocahontas" and who knows what else. Anyway we had great fun and now I want a Martin guitar. (I want it NOW DADDY!) anyway....

Saturday we got up for a VERY busy day. Maddy and JK went to hunting class while Isaiah and i went to Howland for the fabulous homecoming parade. Isaiah got a TON of candy. Then we picked up Thomas and went to Bangor. We had lunch at gov's, then went to Brewer Lanes for bowling and all the arcade games we could stand. We were there 3 hours. Then we ran a few little errands and went to see "The Corpse bride". The movie was very "Eh". That's my review. It was better than no movie and better than "Robots" but it was no "Nightmare before Christmas". So then we went to the play place for a while and came home. I had a SCRUMPTIOUS dinner with Leigh, who did ALL the cooking. Leigh, you should post those recipes on the blog for cripes sake.

Sunday I did some housework and got groceries. In the afternoon I made my boys a punkin pie and cooked a potroast for dinner, which was excellent. LUCKILY I had remembered to bring orlie's famous refrigerator pickles to my house, as they were the PERFECT accompaniment to the roast. The patriot's sucked yesterday, as you all are well aware. But - jk and I are still happy as the Hokie's remain at #3. TAFN.

The Sporting News

Welp, JK and Maddy passed their Hunter's Safety Course with flying colors. Maddy was a very impressive student apparently. Now she know ALL about guns, sites and ammo. I wonder if they make blaze orange sparkly jeans?

And cheers to Leigh for looking FAB on 5th quarter. What could be in store for you next.

I do not. And in Halloween news - my son is NOT going to be a "skeleton with a scythe", he's going to be the headless horseman. I wish someone had an extra head laying around someplace. If you have one of those masks please forward it to me. Any head will do.

EMERGENCY QUESTION

does anyone know where my vampiress dress and collar are? i need a halloween costume.

i know i've asked this before, but i'll ask it again....why, oh why does rachael ray bear her cleavage on tv? it is really unattractive and makes her food less appetizing. she needs to wear push-up wonderbras if she wants to wear low cut shirts. HEAR ME RACHEL RAY!!!!!

I think after my past two weekends experiences, I'm going to have to limit myself to only buying ONE bottle of red.
