Perhaps the most DISGUSTING recipe I've ever seen prepared on television.

So I'm watching the teen choice awards. Wow, the kids love the Johnny Depp...kinda rekindles my faith in humanity. K-fed is about to perform, he has a bunch of 11 year olds hanging around him.....which is weird, even for the teen choice awards. This should be entertaining.

So apparenly I'm getting A-lo's hand me down guitar. I will have to find a place to take lessons...

Well, I've been gone for a couple of days and here's the news. My car died on Friday, we haven't had any news from the emergency room but we're hopeful that it can be resuscitated. I had great fun with the Twists in Gardiner, we made doughnuts and caught up. I had a nice visit with the Preble/Sholl's. They were very touched at the presents from everyone and say "thank-you". Check you're email for pic's. I also visited the Brennan's but I didn't take any pictures there. Jimmy is doing really well. I'm SO glad I went to see him.

Southern people say "srimp" instead of "shrimp". it drives me nuts.

Tonight I'm going to have mushroom, spinach, and pea risotto...without srimps.

On a much happier note...I found a wonderful biscotti recipe you should try. It's a great thing to make when you don't have any ingredients in the house. Use about 1 cup of nuts/choc bits or whatever other flavoring ingredients trip your trigger. I got this off some website and it's so good. Note there is no butter - so they're lower in fat.

1 cup (200 g) sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
and 2 cups (250 g) flour

the original recipe called for 3/4 cup slivered almonts and the zest of one orange

So, you mix it all up then you form it into one or two loaves. The loaves should be no wider than the palm of your hand and about 1 inch thick. If you have a large sheet pan, one loaf should fit. So roughly shape it, then run your palm along the top so you get the curved shape. I usually then just put some hot water on my hand and run it over the loaf one final time. Then sprinkle it with sugar or cinnamon and cardamom and sugar or whatever you like. Bake at 325 for about 35 minutes, test the middle to see that it's done, then remove and let cool for 20 minutes. Turn the oven down to 250. Then slice thinly and lay the slices on a baking sheet on their side. Put them back in the oven till they're as crisp and golden as you like (about 30 minutes). Remove and let cool, dip in chocolate if you like.

Trauma on Moores Road....

Last night, i went into my dark laundry room to get a t-shirt to wear to bed. I was bare footed. I took one step into the room and heard a pop, like if you step on an aspirin bottle or something. I didn't think much of it, but looked down and it looked like there was some grassy mud on the floor. I thought that was odd. Anyway i went into the bathroom and put on said t-shirt and got some paper towels and windex to clean up the mud. I got back to the laundry room and there was this disgusting smell, like chicken poop almost. Well, it WASN'T chicken poop OR grassy mud. It was a mouse that I stepped on and crushed. GAWD!!! I could gag thinking about it. Let's just hope it was dead before I stepped on it. Thanks to JK for cleaning it up so I wouldn't barf all over the place. EWWWWWW!!!!

Oh and I forgot to mention it still randomly stalls at red lights, for a reason which two mechanics cannot determine.

I love Charro.... (said like the T-Moblie "I love chewing gum" girl)...

Mission accomplished. Double chocolate Milanos, and some other chocolate chip cookie thing.

I've finally decided that since my car needs new tires, a new serpentine belt (and tensioner), a fuel filter, an a/c boost, a tune-up, struts, clear-coat repair, a new ground wire for a headlight, and plugs and wires, that I'm just going to buy a different one. Not until the end of September, though...at least.

Here's to football!!!

Fall is finally here with the first game (albeit pre-season) Friday night. I think we should have an official snack and beverage of the season. Suggestions?

Charo sings the theme to The Love Boat and dances too!

OMG!!! remember this????

Last night I dreamed about Pepperidge Farm cookies--specifically Milanos and those tube cookies dipped in chocolate. I dreamed that I really wanted some so bad that I hitchhiked to Bangor to get some. I went Kmart to buy them but they were out (though I did run into an old student and I told her how to pick a size for her kid's shirt). Everything else was closed. So I ran to Lowell to get some at Ellens and all she had were some at the bottom of a Subway bag--Ralph ate them all with his sub, and she was mad that he wasn't home. So I called RK and she came and got me and took me to her house, but all her cookies had melted together, and she had ORANGE Milanos so they were allllllll covered with this orange chocolate goo. I was sad. Dad must have read my mind because he brought home one of those canisters of chocolate dipped tube Pepperidge Farm cookies from Lincoln.

I think I better go get some cookies today.

OH MY GOD AM I BORED.

Aside from doing all mine and Candy's work today, I have taken an online class in xml, filled out birthday cards, caught up on all my twop.com forums, shopped on amazon, and adjusted my Netflix subscription. And i still have an hour to kill.

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

house hunting

I suppose I SHOULD give you a list of things I'm half-looking for for my house in case you know someone giving them away, or you come across some yard sale find. I should also tell you that I'm not looking for junk, I want them to be in good shape and not need to be refinished or painted (though I can paint if necessary). I'm looking for 100% wood. Not veneer or plastic or metal.

Dressers
Bookshelves
small tables (bedside, living room etc.)
Piano 6' or longer

So..if you see anything promising please let me know. I would prefer dark finish on everything (but not black).

I'm sure I'll think of other things too, but this is what I'm craigslising today....

Doughnut Thursday

This morning Hopie, Lora, Noni, Lil, Katelyn, Jaycie, Donna, Barbie, Georgia and Jake all came to Mom's for Orlie's famous doughnuts. We had vanilla and raised (sugared or glazed). The doughnuts were wonderful and the company was very entertaining. The next doughnut event will be on Saturday August 19th at Donna's. We'll be having molasses and who knows what else. I drank TWO cups of cafe au lait (thanks Leigh) and am so caffeinated right now I can't really think or sit. It WAS good though, and due, in large part, to the caffeine I only ate one doughnut. AVGTWHBA. Tomorrow I won't be around all day. JK and I have to go to Ellsworth.

Storey? Blogger has spellcheck....

Blog Review: The Philadelphia Story

Starring, Hepburn, Grant, Stewart et al.

This movie is relatively cute, but entirely predictable and too full of Grant and Hepburn's overly wordy banter. I wouldn't watch it again, but you might. I give it a 2.325466544

I am now watching a show about the Orkney islands, which is on a channel called MHz. MHz shows international programming--every time i turn it on, they're showing something middle eastern that I can't understand. I love Tivo.

An open letter to the makers of Kandoo kids' bathroom products

I don't care how cute the frog is, I don't want to see it wiping its ass on my television.

I"m sure everyone is sick of hearing it right now, but I'm EFFING hot. Right now it is 96 here, with a "heat index" of 106. I did not get on the NT yesterday and I doubt I will today--I am exhaused and dehydrated just from leaving my office to getting to my apt.

If there is a silver lining to this cloud, it is that I have discovered the wonder that is Trader Joe's lemonade, which, when mixed with 50% water, is about the best thing to cure the overheating. I love you, Trader Joe!
