Apparently Elie Wiesel was there too, but I think we missed him. I must have been buying film.

This One's for Amy

Well, I've done it--marched on Washington in protest of the MAN, crying for peace, justice, and fruition throughout the world. Todd and I went to the rally for Darfur today. Who did I see speak? Al Sharpton, Nancy Pelosi, Russell Simmons, BARAK OBAMA, GEORGE CLOONEY, and a bunch of other people. but after George and Barak, who really matters?

When Barak and George spoke, Todd and I were about 50 yards away from the stage, so I actually COULD see them., which was exciting. Oh, that basketball player was there too....Manute Bol, or whatever his name is. Todd said he was REALLY tall but I was laying on the ground resting my back at that time.

We stood at the rally for 3 hours. Just standing. My feet are achy. Changing the world is very exhausting.

Well dammit, I will blog if no one else does. Let's see...I guess I have to catch up from Friday. Friday I didn't do much...work. I left a little early to go to Costco to buy tooth brush heads for my toothbrush. And 40lbs of cat litter.

Saturday I made anadama bread but I used maple syrup instead of molasses so I called it Jenadama. It was pretty tasteless, but it made good french toast. I did some grocery shopping, came home, made bread and banana bread, and watched 'The Picture of Dorian Gray."

Sunday I made Todd breakfast. We had jenadama french toast, sausage, and fruit n' yogurt smoothies. It was QUITE a treat. Yum-O. Then I watched the Chronicles of Narnia, which was about what I expected--not great, not bad. Typical Disney movie.

Monday I went to work, went to yoga. I HATE yoga this time because, frankly, my boobs are too big. They hinder the bending in certain ways. Alas, I'm not going to get a reduction just so I can do "eagle's claw," be certain of that!

RK, did you tell A and R to name their baby Colin?

Last night I watched some of the Kiera Knightley P&P. I could tolerate it for exactly 20 minutes. She squinches up her face and bears her teeth like a mad dog. And the guy who played Mr. Darcy couldn't act his way out of a room....his "method" was... "put no expression into anything you say." Didn't work for me. Then I watched some of The Italian Job. What I liked about that movie was that it jumped right in. No needless exposition--just hey, these guys are robbing something. Boat chase. That's as far as I got, I was tired. This weekend I may or may not be watching TLTW&TW, Rushmore, and Real Women Have Curves.

If you want to talk to me you're going to have to call. JK's monitor died and I have relinquished mine to him for productivity's sake. You know where I am anyway.

genealogy fun

if you are in my generation of Shoreys you are 4th cousin , 5 times removed from President Millard Fillmore!!!! Isn't that exciting? Well, maybe not, but it's trivial!

Clooney was nominated for director for GNAGL and supporting actor for Syriana.

Candy's been out for two days so I'm really too busy to blog.

just another little point of information, I've stayed up until midnigh every night since friday.

Well. Yesterday, as luck would have it, I got to spend most of the evening with one of my very favorite people, Snoop. She graciously road to Lincoln with me. We strolled EE and only bought 3 THINGS, I didn't even think that was possible. Then we went to Mark's and got fixins for burgers. We came home and had the aforementioned burgers for dinner and they were AWESOME we had all the fixins, excepting bacon. Leigh and JK had beer and I had sierra mist. We had no dessert. For entertainment, we watched "A History of Violence", which I will leave to Leigh to review. After she left jk and I watched GNAGL. I thought it was OK and did Clooney get an Oscar for supporting actor? If he did, I don't think he should have. The part wasn't very compelling, it was just there. I'm sorry George, I had to say it because if I didn't these people would think I am totally biased and can't see past your handsomeness. It WAS the ultimate movie for me, however, with the Face AND RD,j. Still I didn't dream of either of them, regrettably. He, maybe, should have gotten the award for director, that part of it was pretty good. I didn't understand why they included the whole "married couple" story line. Neither of those characters added anything to the story except getting RD in the movie. They should have had them been Communists at least......

We took the kids to the house today, so now it's official and everyone knows. Maddy is going to be in a new commercial apparently. We'll issues a news release when filming is complete. We are having a pretty boring vacation. What are you doing?

Where is LTL? I don't like that I haven't heard from her in so long. I'm glad that rk and snoop have finally changed out of their bunny suits. I'm not really sure that it's good for women's lib to have women in bunny suits on one's blog....

Monday, April 17, 2006

Well, apparently everyone knows, so you might as well know too. JK and I are buying the house on Escutarsis road that Gramp grew up in. Tell all your friends an neighbors. We're not moving in until fall.

Cleaning Fool

If you don't yet have a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, shame on you! I used mine today to clean my sink to sparkling, clean hair spray film off my vanity and floor, remove scuff marks from the bottom of my kitchen island, and de-scum my bathtub. It really IS magic.

Strange--I was going to post a link about how to donate old cell phones to domestic abuse programs, then your post came up. I guess Maddy's class trip is more important than abused women--I'll step off.

fundraising

Maddy's class is collecting used cell phones to raise money for something, i think it's a class trip? I can't remember. Anyway, if you have any old phones lying around please send them to me somehow, she'd really appreciate it. They're recycling them.

listen to the song--it's cute!

NPR : Remaking a Mix-Tape Staple

uhhhhhhhh, no STINKIN way??

football

I know none of your care, with the exception of Leigh, but I'm not very excited about the Patriots schedule for next year.

I do love the smashers with a little goat cheese in them.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you poured half a can of coke into your cup of coffee? That's what Coke Blak tastes like. I"m not sure I like it--let's see if it gives me the pep I need to get through the day.

Monday, April 10, 2006

Well, Gram (and everyone else), I'm back. We had no traffic hold-ups and very little weather. We did run into a tiny bit of rain in VA, but we had lunch with Jen and it blew away.

Sunday, April 09, 2006

I bought a vacuum. Hoover, EmPower, I can't remember the model number, TR and I picked it out on the net--I got it at Best Buy for a good price. It sucks!

I went to the gym with TR, paid all the bills, and now i'm going to do some dishes. Look at me go!

Saturday, April 08, 2006

Oh and I forgot to mention that Rhett was on Last Call with Carson Daly last night. I love Rhett, you should too.

So Friday I had to work until almost 6. Then I napped after work so I couldn't go to sleep until 3 AM. My sleep schedule is ALL screwed up, thanks to Rhett.

This AM I called RK to see where they were, and we rendez-vous'd around 30 miles away from my apt for lunch in Warrenton. There was a cute bistro--called, aptly, Main Street Bistro. There were only 2 other parties in the joint, and one of them was from Brunswick. So that was funny. I had a chicken ciabatta sandwich and rk had a shrimp ceasar wrap with some spinach soup concoction. It was lovely to see family. Then I went to Trader Joe's, Wegman's, then I came back and took another nap.

Now I'm blogging so I don't have to do dishes or pay bills or do my tax return.

Tomorrow: bread, gym with Todd, recycling. Woohoo.

Well I have been informed that I'm not blogging NEARLY enough. So here goes. I have been working my ass off--not literally, though I wish sitting at a computer for 10-12 hours a day actually accomplished that. I did manage to get to DC with a co-worker Thursday night to see Rhett Miller perform. If you don't know who he is--shame on you! Most of the people who read this blog would not like him as he's pretty pop-y but his lyrics are great and his tunes are catchy and he's a sexy mofo when's he's been on stage singin' and sweatin' for almost 3 hours with no break. We saw him at a place called Black Cat. The ink stamp is still on my hand. So I got home at 1:30 on Friday am and planned to sleep late, but i woke up at 8 and was at work by 9.

I know you're all wondering, so just so you know,....I DID win bridge again last night - beat Tracey by 200! 2600 is a very respectable score, I couldn't have done it without tracey and Helen though. I had great rounds with them. And Dessert...well just let me tell you, you all should miss living here. I am lucky enough to live around Aunts who love me. Yes, I deserve it, it's true. But when someone makes you the thing you love the most, you know you are truly loved...my Aunt Lora made cherry nut cake. It was pink and elegant!!!! (this despite my stealing the cookbook I bought for her. I guess I better get another one SOON,)

Anadama Bread

Thanks to Aunt Janelle for suggesting the Betty Crocker Cookbook..... this is one you HAVE to make.

Bring to boil in saucepan
1.5 cups water
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup yellow corn meal

Stir in and cool to lukewarm:
1/3 cup molasses (though i think i might use 1/2 cup next time and a little less water
1.5 tbsp shortening (I used butter though and half as much)

mix in separate bowl:
1 package yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water

when the cornmeal is cool add the yeast and 3.5 to 4.5 cups of sifted flour

knead for a few minutes and let rise. Punch down and turn into greased 9x5x3 loaf pan. Let rise until double. Bake at 375 until dark brown.

oh yeah after you put it in the pan brush it with a little butter and sprinkle with corn meal and salt if desired.

YUMMY

I found it...

I'm wearing my shades as I'm headed to Florida in two days and figure I won't be changing my avatar's outfit again. Feel free to call my cell while I'm on the road, if only to give me Master's updates.

my bad, not bloggers, I posted to the wrong blog "on accident" (that's for you Jen)

OMG

I just made the BEST bread EVER!!! I'm waiting to see if this posts before I give you the recipe, as I've had one post fail already today.

Monday, April 03, 2006

Well, my avatar is substituting for me today, as I am looking so casual in my Patriot's sweatshirt. They need an NFL section in avatar accessories.

Man, that sounds good. Now I want lasagna. without the olives or eggplant.

My my my, aren't we bookish? I don't look like that today. I'm in my pj's, working from home. the car left me stranded at Starbucks yesterday--can I buy a new one yet?

Blog Review: Capote

I think PSH deserved the Oscar. I liked this movie a lot. I thought the characterization of Capote was thought about very well. I hope I get to ask Alice about it someday.

Watch it for yourself.
