I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!

So you know the 200 year old plant I inherited? Well, I bought a beautiful pot at Target yesterday for it. FINALLY, and I was all excited to transplant it last night. Well long story short I got it done, but I massacred it. Both of the giant leaves broke off. I was SOOO mad at myself. Luckily it has buds to new leaves on it so I believe it will survive.

It smells fabulous so far, though I have to admit I was pretty unconfident (i don't know what word I should have used there) about the amounts of spices. I couldn't believe I actually had garlic powder on hand. I vaguely remember buying it a while ago but I don't remember why. As for blogging...if I'm going to blog something long and important I always cut and paste it to a word doc so I don't have to retype it if it doesn't blog. Just my helpful hint for the day.

FINALLY got RR's chicken in the oven. LTL, I got my Vanity Fair today. Your's can't be far behind.

ah, now RACHAEL knows me!

in a previous post, a_lo states:

"Jen is working at least part of the day today. At least she was up at 7:00 and gone by 7:45 and you know jen would only do that for money."

apparently, a_lo doesn't know me as well as she thinks. though i did indeed work today, i would also do the above mentioned for nookie.

Eh forget it. I forgot it was on a Sunday.

...well I know Jen and I believe she would do that for SEX too.

I've consulted www.urbandictionary.com. Bithessss is NOT in it so therfore it means absolutely NOTHING.

Is Jen working today?

Hypothetical question: Say someone decided they might want to go see a concert that several other people she knew were going to go to. Say those other people already had their tickets? Do you think that person might be able to get a ticket? Do you think tickets would still be available? Say it was two months away or so and it was at a Casino? Then might tickets be available?

Well, Snoop, you'll recall that I did that already. Anyway as for Racing Stripes, yes, the Zebra wins, by a nose and everyone makes nice and become friends. I have to say that Joe Pantoliano's character as "goose" the Pelican in the movie was, perhaps, the worse most nonsensical and totally irrelevant character EVER in ANY movie.

Movie Spoiler for the film - MILLION DOLLAR BABY

Today I am going to make RR's red hen.

Sunday

Suzanne called me at 7:30 to advise that Orlie had made one of my favorite dishes, cream toast. So, since I'm about the only one that likes it I went up to endulge. It was excellent. Then I packed up my boy and went home to make breakfast for everyone else. They had pancakes, eggs, toast and bacon with OJ or Grapejuice. Then we got the dishes cleaned up and they played a bit more then I took Kris home. The kids and I had to go to Bangor again in search of a stamp pad. So we WERE going to do this quick trip. Our initial plans were: quick lunch, dollar tree, hair cuts, staples, ice cream at friendly's, Mardens.

Unfortunately we got off on the wrong foot, choosing governor's instead of Wendy's. It took us 20 minutes to be greeted by our waiter. We knew it was a big mistake right after we ordered. Our lunches were another 30 minutes before they arrived. Give me a break. It was nothing fancy either, burgers and hot dogs. Then it was forever before he brought us the check. Ugh. It was almost two hours there. So then we skipped dollar tree and went to staples where the didn't have what I needed. I got a small stamp pad though just in case I needed to improvise. Then we got one hair cut (boy), it looks cute but we had to wait and maddy couldn't get one. Then we went to Target and Wal mart and Jo ann fabric and abacus to find a stamp pad. We also got chicken food and a salt lick for the deer. At target we also bought a plant pot for my Calla Lily, and sleds for the kids. Let's see, we got gas and hot chocolate and Wendy's for Maddy and we did get to dollar tree where we bought lotion, valentines (Scooby Doo, Hilary Duff, Harry Potter and LOTR), stickers and I don't know what else. Then to Bell's for steaks then I guess we came home. Needless to say it was a hectic and frustrating trip. I didn't get to see Leigh, we didn't get ice cream, we didn't get to Marden's and we didn't get Maddy's hair cut. Both kids fell asleep in the car. We got home around 6:30, watched AFV and the kids went to bed. I read VAnity Fair and JK watched me cry over it (twice). This a.m. JK discovered he has grown almost an inch. We had to check because he had a checkup last week and didn't believe the dr., but there it is. You can grow after your 40. He must be eating right.

My weekend

Friday, I was alone all day, as you know. I spent the day doing laundry and dishes mostly. Then at night I watched the entire two discs of Pride and Prejudice and enjoyed it immensely with no one saying either "fafafa" or "mama".

Saturday Kris(ten) came at 11 to visit Maddy. I went to the dump. Then I dropped the boy off at Mom's to play computer for 24 hours and Kris, Maddy and I went to see Racing Stripes. We also went to Borders. I can't really tell you how the movie was (stupid) because I had my book light with me and read through the entire thing. This is an exceedingly pleasing way to enjoy a really stupid movie and I highly recommend it. After the movie we played a few video games and then went to bugaboo creek. Lovely Leigh joined us for dinner. The girls were thrilled to sit at the bar and enjoy root beers. The sight of them with beer ish looking bottles did take more than one customer by surprise. So we were seated after about a half hour. Leigh and I had bugaboo cosmos that were practically non-alcoholic. For dinner Leigh had a chicken club, I had a the burgundy sliced filet (which was really good and not too salty even for bugaboo), maddy had chicken nuggets, Kris had the baby sirloin. The girls shared a five pound chocolate cake for desert, of which they ate about three bites. Leigh left us. The girls and I went grocery shopping then grabbed hot chocolates at starbucks and came home. They stayed up till midnight.

there, my state taxes are done too. thank goodness, i just barely broke even with them....but i don't have to pay in, and that's what matters.

Friday, January 28, 2005

Any plans for the weekend? I'm reading tonight. Tomorrow I'm taking the kids to see Racing Stripes.

I really want to see Finding Neverland. However, I've always had a STRICT policy against anything called "feelgood movie of the year". God. What a dilemma.

from jen

jen turned on her car - interpol track II

whatever that means

OK i claim the cake. Ask Liam what kind he wants. Or I'll call him at some point. I might call tonight anyway. See what he has to say. I love talking to that kid on the phone.

desperate housecats? i laughed for 5 minutes on that one.

does blind date count as a game show? because as much as i love supermarket sweep, i can see that i would just laugh hysterically through the whole thing and they wouldn't let me be on it. which is too bad because i really do love to watch it for some reason.

i want to join the crowd and get my masters! now if i could only find a wealthy patron...

the air is dry. my nose is dry. everything is dry.

about the engineering joke? lighten up. that's why they're called JOKES. they don't have to be funny, but they're not intended to be insulting.

LTL, I think Jen and I are in agreement - Desperate Housecats is the best line of the day.

I would be on supermarket sweep with you. I love that show. I've marked my calendar. Who's making the cake? You'll have to make us a wish list.

my STUPID cats...they are driving me CRAZY. I can't wait till they can go outside for an entire day. Firstly the fight ALL the time, at least they are today. The second thing is Winker goes psycho during the winter. I don't know why. But she refuses to go outside and she gets afraid of everyone. So last night she woke me up at 2:30 whining to go out, but then she wouldn't go out and I couldnt' catch her either. So she whined for a half hour. Anyway I finally caught her this morning and threw her outside.

Well, I'm proud of both of you for continuing your education. Anyway, I'm home alone today, cleaning and doing laundry.

Eng. joke #1

Can you believe a CLIENT would send us insulting jokes????

Two engineering students crossing the campus when one said, "Where

did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday

minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this

bike.

She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said,

"Take what you want."

The first engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes

probably wouldn't have fitted."

yes my nose is dry as the sahara, and you might even catch me snorting a bottle of afrin moisturizing spray at ANY time since i've taken to carrying it with me. IT's PATHETIC

Thursday, January 27, 2005

this is how i made my quesidilla:

bake one sweet potato per person
caramelize 1/4 onion per person

mix together with chili powder and crushed chili peppers to desired hot-ness. ha ha.

heat a big skillet. get a tortilla. put a thin layer of the potato mix on one half of the tila. add a thin layer of refried or not black beans. add as much taco cheese as you want. fold in half. put in slightly greased skillet. cook until golden brown and delish. flip. cook until golden brown and delish. serve with salsa and sour cream.

sometimes i use cumin instead of chili powder. i saw chili powder first.

usually i add whole black beans right into the potato mixture but amy brought home refritos so i layered.

All-Purpose Pizza Dough

Prepared on the show by Chef Wolfgang Puck - 10/27/04

From Wolfgang Puck's New Book "Wolfgang Puck Makes It Easy" Delicious Recipes for Your Home Kitchen (© 2004 Wolfgang Puck Worldwide; Rutledge Hill Press)

"This is a simple bread dough, which you can mix by hand or in a stand mixer. You can roll it out into small pizzas, which are easy to manipulate, or you can make big ones. As for toppings, I have offered many to choose from here. But don't stop with these! Master the pizza dough, and then you can be as creative as you wish with the toppings. That's the whole idea behind the California pizza. They're fun, and you can be as inventive as you want to be."

* Makes 4 small (8-inch) pizzas or 2 large (14-inch) pizzas

2 ½ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus additional for brushing the pizza crusts
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bread bowl, dissolve the yeast in the water. Add the honey and stir together, Let sit 2 or 3 minutes, or until the water is cloudy. Stir in the olive oil.

2. Using a stand mixer: Combine the four and salt and add it to the yeast mixture all at once. Mix it together using the paddle attachment, then change to the dough hook. Knead at low speed for 2 minutes, then turn up to medium speed and knead until the dough comes cleanly away from the sides of the bowl and clusters around the dough hood, about 5 minutes. Hold on to the machine if it bounces around. Turn out onto a clean work surface and knead by hand for 2 or 3 minutes longer. The dough should be smooth and elastic. When you press it with your finger it should slowly spring back, and it should not feel tacky.

well i think this dough is going to be excellent. I'll post the recipe if it is.

yes well good luck with that as google won't let me get past the sign in screen. I'll try later.

do you vote "yes" ltl?

LTL you should use mozilla then you wouldn't have pop ups.

Blog poll: everyone must vote

Should we put advertising on the blog? We'll get paid per click allegedly.

I'm looking through my new favorite book, the 1000 best movies of all time, 1971 edition and how does this one sound:

ISLE OF THE DEAD

u.s.a. 1945
Slow-moving horror thriller about a group of people marooned on a Greek island during a plague. Not the best of Lewton's RKO horror movies; although the last thirty minutes, in which a cataleptic woman who has been buried alive escapes from her coffin completely insane, are filmed with great skill by Mark Robson who, like Jacques Tourneur and Robert Wise before him, employed sound with great subtlety to register horror.

I will also state, for the record, that I put three WA movies on my queue, way down though, like 262 or something.

The Tony Danza Show

The Tony Danza Show

I will state, for the record, that Tony has a LOT of really good looking recipes on his website and I think I'll try his pizza crust tonight.

Well obviously you've given up. It was "The Tony Danza Show" and this is why I watched it. The tv was on and I was too lazy to shut it off. This is why it was obnoxious. Tony sang and danced AND he has the worst makeup job since...hmmmm...I can't think who. Maybe Burt reynolds but it must be worse than that. I decided to keep it on for the superbowl party tips, then I missed the entire segment. He had "baby spice" on because she has a new cd being released. She sang and really sucked. I do NOT recommend you buy her cd.

Blog quiz: I watched the MOST pathetic show on TV today. Can you guess what it was?

Emily do you have a meeting in Bangor tomorrow? Please say yes.

I'm sure Ashley could run over the the US mint and do an interview with an engraver or someone for us. Maybe they'd like to be celebrity bloggers for a day?

the "building" is Monticello. It will return in 2006. This is the bicentennial of the Louisianna purchase, thus the change for the year. There will be a new design in the fall featuring the pacific ocean. And that's an "updated" portrait of Jefferson. You know who they could remove from money? Andrew Jackson. Why is he on the $20 anyway?

The United States Mint

Silly Rabbit, Jefferson is still on the nickel.....

The United States Mint

Oh well, who even knows who was on the nickel anyway. I guess it doesn't matter.

Hold on, was it the dime that changed or the nickel? Your statement is confusing.

Friggin republicans. FDR deserves to be on the dime for life. I didn't know they changed it. I knew they were discussing it though.

this recipe looks about right to me, except i serve with beans and rice as I said before

Sweet Potato Quesadillas

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups finely chopped onion
2 garlic cloves minced or pressed
3 tablespoons vegetable oil (Canola)
4 cups grated peeled sweet potato
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
A generous pinch cayenne
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
2-3 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro, um I mean Parsley, yeah that's the ticket

8 tortillas
Salsa
Sour cream (if you exercised)
Tabasco

Preparation:
Saute the onions and garlic in the vegetable oil until onions are translucent.
Add the grated sweet potato, oregano, chili powder, cumin and cayenne and cook, covered, for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
When the sweet potato is tender, add salt and pepper to taste and remove filling from heat.
Spread one-eighth of the filling and 2 tablespoons of the cheese on each tortilla.
Sprinkle with cilantro.
Cook the filled tortillas for about 2-3 minutes per side.

Serve immediately, topped with salsa, sour cream (if you exercised), guac on the side, Tabasco to taste.

It is ridiculous that you don't like Curb. That's such a funny show. I make sweet potato quesedillas with cooled SP's, sauteed onions and some rice and beans in them. I haven't made them in forever though because JK hates them. I'll see if I have the recipe.

I hated Annie Hall because Diane Keaton is obnoxious and so is Woody Allen so if you put them together - what do you get? Doubleobnoxious. Where is WW anyway? She wasn't at school yesterday and she hasn't returned my email today. Is she sick?

But he doesn't have any good ones!!! I tried Annie Hall - I hated that too!!!

just substitute fresh parsley and tell yourself it's cilantro. I hate cilantro too though I WILL eat it in VERY small quantities.

RK review

Small Time Crooks
starring Woody Allen, Tracey Ullman, Hugh Grant, Elaine May and Jon Lovitz, 2000

God. Why do I rent Woody Allen movies. This is why. He did a "short" in "New York Stories" that I thought was absolutely hilarious. So I KNOW he has the potential to make me laugh. However I keep renting his movies and I keep hating them. I suppose I should turn this movie on right now just to say I played the entire thing. But it is so depressingly intolerably boring that I don't know if I can bring myself to it. I know WA is some kind of genius or something, but I just don't get him at all. I mean, first of all, he always plays this great lover or something but he just can't pull it off. I'm going to give him the same advice as I give QT. Stay out of your movies and maybe I'll be able to stand them.

~:> ~:>

Goodness!!! That reminds me I need to get valentines. Jen should put her birthday card poem on the blog because I didn't read the whole thing before I bought it. I only read the first two or three lines and knew Jen would laugh if I sent it.

Yeah right, as if. Well this a.m. we let maddy sleep in because she was very tired. So I took her to school and went to Lincoln thinking I'd get the ingredients for RR's fabulous chicken. So I did the bank thing and the gas thing and I left Lincoln without even a second thought about cat food, toilet paper, dishwasher shit OR the chicken ingredients. I was halfway home before I remembered. What an idiot.

OK Emily, I have a better kid swearing storey for you. I really thinks it trumps "Jesus" but I'll let you vote.

Isaiah came home and was happily playing his gameboy on the bed. We were all watching king of the hill and just jellin'. So he says, Mama, there's a matching game on the computer at school, and there's a yellow butterfly on it, and some of my friends call it Peter Peckerhead!!! HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH

So he told me three or four times. I was quite STUNNED actually. I didn't know what to say. I inadvertantly LAUGHED. Oh well. John got it together enough to make sure the boy realized it wasn't something you should say in school.

Wednesday, January 26, 2005

i'll be trying that this weekend. Thanks RR.

well, i'm done all my work. They didn't leave me nearly enough and since i figured it was rank card time I didn't bring a book or magazine with me. I'm stuck with the paper! HOpefully WW will drop in on me!

Tuesday, January 25, 2005

well, i thought i was going to be done work tomorrow so i could spend all day sleeping, lounging, and blogging. but it looks like i'll be working for at least another week! yay! thank goodness i have both math AND english skills, or else i would be done. so that's what is going on with me. rachael sent me a touching and heartfelt birthday card. i laughed. my car's been starting now that the temp is above 0.

i'm glad Liam is swearing too. It means he's one of us. I have a very difficult time with swearing and children. At what age is it appropriate to let them swear? So far my policy is "when you're twelve you can swear, but not around your grandparents or in school".

MMM that dinner sounds scrumptious! Wish I were there. JK and I finished season 3 disc 1 of Curb last night and are anxiously awaiting disk two. Except that it's the final disc so then I'll have to wait another entire year for season 4 and that makes me not want to get disc 2, you understand I'm sure. We also watched a couple of episodes of SITC. I admit I got a little choked up at the end with NEVER happens to me. I must have caught that from Leigh. Leigh, what is your schedule this weekend. I'm thinking of taking the kiddos to the movie and we want you to go.
I am ENTIRELY caught up in Vanity Fair and really can't get much else accomplished and my whole family is pissed at me because all I do is read all the time.

JK and I had leftover spaghetti and meatballs for dinner last night. It was excellent.

Monday, January 24, 2005

oh and in other news, i'm not enjoying season 2 of nip/tuck as much as i did season 1. but i'm only 2 episodes in so i still have hope.

wow. it finally let me. so i guess i have to say EVERYTHING while i get the chance.

RR i've never made french onion soup. i have actually never even tried it. a good recipe would be a nice place to start down that road.

LTL: the SAME thing happened to me about 5 years ago at movie gallery! i had rented 'hercules'..the cartoon, and returned it, and they said i didn't and that i owed them like 25 bucks! frig that! i've never gone back to being a member.

rk: great chocolate donuts. really. stupendous. i'm glad i wasn't there to witness them fresh as i would have had either a diabetic coma or a heart attack right there on the new floor.

snoop dawg: um, i have not much to say to you but i didn't want you to feel left out!

alo: same. you're in the house with me.

so this weekend i used all kinds of the new kitchen gadgets. i made a burger using my pig-shaped bacon press...YUM. i also used it to toast an english muffin. hee hee. then i used my silicone baking dish to make banana bread/cake. DELISH. seems like i used more gadgets but those are the ones that are coming to mind. oh yeah! i used the caserole dish beav gave me to make my favorite thing, chicken with mushroom soup, that everyone else hates but it was just me so it doesn't matter. guess that's all. hi gram! i saw you tagged!

M stayed home again today, but this is the last day of truancy for her. She slept pretty well last night but still has a miserable cough. I only kept her home because she was overtired from not sleeping all weekend. She HAS to go to school tomorrow because I'm absolutely SICK of disney movies.

also JK and I have been having fun watching "Curb" season III.

anyway....I was trying to say that i wish you'd carry a video camera at all times so we can see these little performances of that kid...also that his current favorite phrases indicates him developing a very healthy stubbornness, which I'm glad of, so I won't have the only stubborn boy in the family.

Well, I'm here. I survived the weekend but ate WAYYYY more than I should have, totally blew my diet, but I'm back on the horse today. Saturday Amy made GREAT pizza, sunday we had doughnuts and chicken wings. So it was quite a party atmosphere. Anyway we enjoyed the football yesterday and hunkered down to prepare for the storm of the century but it wasn't to be had. I guess Jen caught the brunt of it though. Congrats to the Pats and to Tiger Woods. Blog poll: Amy wants to make something for a super bowl party, but it can't be just anything. She wants it to SCREAM "new england patriots". What should she make?

Well I'm back. I went to NLC, staples, borders, blue seal and Shaw's. Oh yeah, and starbucks. I tried to take leigh to lunch but she was otherwise engaged. I tried to get her a latte but she already got herself one. I enjoyed a mocha on my way home.

I can't blog - I have to go to bangor. I don't know where weather pixie's coat went. She had one at one point. Maddy is sick today. I kept both kids home from school

Thursday, January 20, 2005

and yes, it would be funny. I'm sure I'd be the talk of Burlington - if you knew our postmistress you'd understand why.

I'm watching the inauguration - not quite sure why though. I've never worked where i had to listen to adult contemporary. Thank Blog.

Curl up? You make me laugh. If you say "kids get up - get ready for school" they fall instantly into a deep sleep that you have to shake tickle and push out of bed to get them to wake up. If you say "no school today" it's like giving them a shot of adrenaline. Isaiah was up at 6:30 ready to go.

I guess we're just going to pass this cold around all winter. Maddy is a bit sick again today so.... does Sean think I'm a bitch?

Did you get your mags?

Well I'm doing a thing for the fire department today. Other than that not much is going on. We got The Final Cut (the third FU movie) so I'm anxiously awaiting that for tonight.

Well I'm here, finally. I took my sweet time this a.m. JK and I have been having coffee and chatting. Anyway I have good news....are you ready???? I won bridge last night!!!!! Aren't you excited? Full bridge report to follow. Emily, you are run ragged. You need to sleep for two days.

75 days till duran duran!

I tried to use Thunderbird but it filtered all my hotmail and yahoo mail people. I got frustrated trying to figure it out. I'll give it a shot again sometime.

well ltl thanks for ordering me something, you surely didn't have to. i hope it's avon root lifter.

snoop thanks for the card. it's so huge it looks like i got 10 more than i did!

rk thanks for the tag!!!!!!! people have been asking for it! and thanks for aaa.

Does Tara have more than one kid?

There I mailed them. YOu should have plenty of reading for the rest of the week.

Emily I'll mail you all my stupid magazines today. I have several that I'm done with . Glamour, Cosmo, NYT, New Yorker.

Oh that's really REALLY nice. Now I'm shopping anyway so I don't care. Well, I'm not really shopping, I'm looking at vintage style clothes that I will never buy.

Today I'm trying to shop for a new cell phone. I've decided I'm officially OLD. I don't want a camera phone or instant text messaging or digital ring tones or ANY of the other shit they attach to cell phones these days. So that's it. Start carving my tombstone. I don't even know where to begin picking a phone because all I care about is reception reception reception.

Sounds like you had a lovely and highly caffeinated weekend, and that's ALWAYS the best kind IMHO. I didn't even comment on the football games did I? I was thrilled at both of the games I watched and deeply sad that I didn't have directv so I could watch the other two. I was even so delirious on Saturday that I couldn't think to have Dad tape my Falcons for me. Oh well. I couldn't remember to carry the milk out of the store after I bought it either so what do you expect from me anyway. LEAVE ME ALONE AND STOP LAUGHING AT ME!!!!

I hope I can remember to watch Candide tomorrow on PBS.

Good morning all. It seems everyone here is well again. We survived and though we are still weak we are all feeling a lot better. Norma is STILL in the hospital. Hopefully she'll get out by Friday. Poor thing - 2 weeks in the hospital must really be a royal bore. Not much else is news.

yesterday ami and i got up and decided to go to brunch. we went to this place in berwick called echo 52. i had a bacon cheese onion omlette with homefries and toast. YUM. so much butter in that omlette. and it was cooked PERFECTLY. and amy had portobello mushroom benedict that looked good and we had fruit bowl and i had oj. SUCH a good brunch. then we went to mardens, and amy bought a cat bed and a ladle i think, then we went to dollar tree--my favorite outing. amy's virgin voyage to dollar tree. we bought joy and shower spray and scrapbook pages and some other things totalling 11 and change. i love dollar tree! then we came home and i didn't do much except have a big piece of cake that amy made for me, marble with choco frosting. watched the golden globes, i did pretty good with my picks. i see more cake in my future today.

poor little leigh, the only one working today! did you give mom her gift from me? i read all your weekend in anticipation!

i'm so glad nip/tuck won, and i'm glad william shattie won, because i picked him as a joke.

OK so Friday I laid in bed all day and blew my nose. I watched Pride and Predjudice at night - well listened to it mostly - my eyes hurt too much to watch. Saturday I laid in bed all day and blew my nose. I discovered excedrine was a better cure for me than dayquil so i felt a lot better in the evening - just in time for the Steelers thank goodness. I enjoyed the game though it stressed my out! Today I got up and went to Lincoln got some Mucinex and a few groceries and came home. That's it.

Well all but TWO were junk. One from the lovely Leigh and the other from the absent Ash. He sends his best wishes to the blog and promises to be back soon. Life is very busy for him right now. Sounds like hell to me but he's managing.

So, looks like it's time to look for another job eh, A-LO? Anywho, I logged on this a.m. and have 123 emails? Guess how many are junk?

back to the land of the living

Yes, she lives. Believe it or not. So I've had the flu apparently. That's how I'm diagnosing it due to my symptoms. It was a mild flu and short lasting and I'm not completely over it but I'm functioning as a real person and not some brainless lump of crap sweating in the bed. So Thursday when I thought I had a cold I went to work with JK and measured as much of a building as I could. It was a big mistake because I was comPLETEly wiped out. Luckily for me Suzanne bailed me out and kept the kids and I went home and crashed. I didn't sleep a bit as mind-racing was one of my flu symptoms, the others were exhaustion, hip pain, mild fever, severe sinus pressure, mild nausea chills, sweats, etc. That's about it though.

i'm alive. today i got lovely birthday cards from gram and michlle. thanks ladies! i also have one from mila that i can't open until sunday, damn her.

If any of you know any man who is a size 32 x 32 please let me know. I have several pairs of NEW pants that they can have - jeans and the like.

I also have to report that I have a minor cold. Symptoms, congestion and post nasal drip.

Not much to report. The weather people were wrong again, much to the dismay of my children. Anyway, JK and I will be out of the office after 10. We watched six feet under last night.

Update on the Unwell

Norma is having surgery for her diverticulitis in Calais today. I'm leary about it.

Dean F. (the elder) has a spot of lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. He's tired from it but I guess his spirits are pretty good.

Did Ash survive the holidays? Not so much as a new years' resolution from him yet?

Blog review: The Real Andy Kaufman

Say I was to make a movie about the REAL George Mitchell. This is John's analogy and I think it's pretty fitting. Sure, I've met GM a couple of times and I've met a few of his cohortsfrom his former life. Say I went to a rally and videotaped him and then interviewed people on the periphery of his life and made a dvd of those interviews and that rally. This would be an equal example of the REAL George Mitchell as this guys attempt at the rEAL Andy Kaufman.

Amy I posted yours seperately but it apparently went into the ether. I'll post it again in a little bit, but let's just say it's time to go buy that bottle of Paris.

Cosmo Bedside Astrologer for January

Ashley (Gemini) - Kinky sex becomes your favorite new pursuit this month. at first, your full-time stud or part-time tryster may be a little intimidated by your erotic experiments, but by the 20th, he'll be equally as excited to explore your latest lusty hobby.

Rachael (libra) - You're a girl who likes to set goals, and this is the perfect month to write down exactly what you want to accomplish this year. Saturn says putting your dreams and ambitions on paper will make them doubly likely to happen.

I"m sorry, but that's just not sexy at all!

Emily (Scorpio) - You can be a toatal control freak, but this month, the only thing you care about is being the bedroom boss. Near the 5th limb on top and direct all the erotic action. Chances are, he won't ever want to take back the reins again!!!

Guess this is the year to paint and paper your bedroom!!!!

Leigh (Sagittarius) - Your sometimes careless spending habits leave you strapped for cash. But at the beginning of this year, Saturn's money-minded influence allows you to budget better. If you do the math, you'll realize you might be able to save up for a long-term goal.

and Jen (Capricorn)Mars superheats your inner siren. On the 9th initiating a wake-up sex session satisfies your early a.m. carnal urges and turns up your passion partner's body temp. You'll need to open a window to let the sexy steam escape.

I'm NOT moving to Houlton. I offered once and you convinced me not to!!! If you don't get a restraining order maybe you could just put up a sign that trespassing right wing wackos will be shot, or perhaps you'd like to hang my pic of Bill Clinton in your kitchen door?

I think you're right. He's too old to have to deal with babies and their annoying habits. He needs his own crowd. I hope you have another option. Otherwise he's going to have to spend his weeks with me.

the show we've watched three times in the last two days: Tom and Jerry and the magic ring. This could almost be as annoying as scooby doo.

trash update:

according to cosmo, Jessica simpleton will NOT have to dye her hair brown to play Daisy Duke. and the 10 fashion must have are 1. Ruffly Wrap
2. Romantic Cami, 3. Floral Print Purse, 4. Bejeweled Belt 5. Flutter Sleeve Top, 6. Gold Lace Skirt, 7. Antique Looking Locket 8. Slinky party dress (lace covered) 9. Trousers with a Ribbon Tie 10. Pearl Cuff Pumps.

Not much to report on our front either. We finished "To Play the King" and enjoyed it quite a bit. That FU - you have to love him.

from the Torono Fashion MOnitor

This winter, Midas touched every makeup product he could possibly reach. Soft golden liners and shadows are the latest evening accessory to any outfit. In fact, gold is a very easy color to play with: it looks lovely with all skin tones and complements day or party look if used wisely. A touch of gold gives your face a warm glow that enlivens the paler winter skin.

“Everybody can wear gold,” says Julie Redfern, Beauty Editor at Sephora. “It’s all about how you apply it. Take just one feature and apply gold on it. If you choose to apply gold on the eye, you can add some golden shimmer to your lips, but you don’t want a golden cheek. I would mix it up a little bit.” Sexy and sparkling gold-dusted eye shadows look great worn by itself or with black eyeliner, and with nude lipgloss or a berry-painted mouth.

Eye is the best place to play with golden hues. “Your eye captures the most attention, because when you talk to someone, they are looking at your eye,” says Julie Redfern. “And you don’t have to reapply eye shadow!”

It is a nearly foolproof trend to apply—just use a light hand and avoid shades that are too yellow. Go for warm gold tones or even gold shades mixed with bronze hues, they work extremely well for all colors of eye irises. Never do an entire eyelid from lash to brow in gold. Keep the color concentrated near the lash line or work the inner corner of the eye with a lighter hue. To intensify the look, blend the shadow up toward the brow. Blending different shades of gold from brassy to almost silver we let the shade fade naturally toward the crease.

If you choose adding a bit of golden touch to your face (we used Guerlain Let Meteorites Dorees to highlight Aliona’s cheekbones), make sure your skin is in prime condition, because shimmer will accentuate every little flaw. Exfoliate and moisturise your skin properly before applying a shimmery highlighter or a powder. “When your face is clear and glowing, the makeup will look better”, adds Julie Redfern.

And the best part is that you don't have to resemble an Oscar statue to complement the bold eye: Julie Redfern suggests applying a lighter pink wash as a blush. “Pink is already beige-y type of color. It will add you a pop of color, which is essential when you go for gold”, recommends Julie. Liner is truly optional, but not mascara! Finish your look with black mascara, and for the maximum impact, attach a set of gorgeous golden eyelashes. Add a touch of muted golden loose powder to the center of your forehead and on the apples of your cheeks. Keep the rest of the face neutral – apply a shiny pink sheer gloss, and you look like a million bucks!

I have never seen an episode of MP - so THERE jen!!!!

well, the boy is feeling a lot better. We had a game of Scooby Chess and I won. We also had a brief siesta. He's been playing gameboy and watching Scooby all day.

I always feel bad for state workers, people are always screaming for them to do something but they also want the state to cut the budget by 3/4. Idiots.

obviously, gay mat is lynnette's hubby, but if you missed MP..shame on you!

dh recap

Mrs. Kravitz's sister -- in the form of the very fantastic Harriet Samson Harris -- turns up for the search for the missing nosy neighbor, and makes two things very clear: she hated her sister, and she's sure Mrs. Kravitz is dead. Which, of course, she is. Speaking of: Paul, the world's stupidest murderer, decides he'd better frame someone for the crime, and digs up the body and removes Mrs. Kravitz's ring and bracelet and plants them in Mike's garage. Across the street, Karl is back in Susan's life: Brandi cheated on him, and suddenly he wants Susan back. But this only prompts Susan to realize that she isn't in love with Karl anymore, because she's all in love with Mike. Who is also in love with her. That was easy! KimberBree starts dating, and Andrew doesn't react well...until he discovers Rex's infidelity. Then, shock of shocks, he actually backs up his mom. Speaking of discoveries, Rex overhears KimberBree tell Andrew that Rex is and always will be the love of her life -- but that she's still planning to leave his cheating ass. Lynette finds out that Gay Matt has the hots for the nanny, and she's very irritated about it, so Gay Matt fires Claire, and Lynette starts looking around for uglier childcare. And, finally, Gabrielle gets a job that lasts about two seconds before she calls Carlos's lawyer and tells him she's found her husband's passport, which she apparently fished out of the fire before it was destroyed. How very convenient.

Sorry, I didn't watch DH!

i'm bored. What did you have for lunch and what's for supper? We had roasted chicken sandwiches for lunch. Dinner will be chili of course.

and Jen, the rumor is that Angelina may be responsible for the Bradifer breakup.

OH yeah, last night we watched part 1 of the Francis Urquhart seriers "To Play the King" if you've never seen Francis in action I highly recommend the first series.

You know how sometimes you just want someone to get your coffee for you? I can't believe I"m saying this but I'm actually wishing for a DD coffee right now. Actually I'd prefer a starbucks but I'd settle for a dd, unfortunately I have to settle for making my own coffee.

Is it just me or are the weather people totally off this year. I thought we were supposed to get this snow on saturday or something?

Well yes, from 2 to three or 4 you have to be super enthusiastic about everything. It's when they want your approval for everything the 12th time they do it that you have to say "yeah, I know you can do that but what have you learned LATELY!!"

My son is home sick today. He had a fever all day yesterday and all last night, along with very mild vomiting yesterday morning. He's better today but I kept him home just so he wouldn't get overtired. He insists I sit with him and watch him play his gameboy.

we only got a dusting of snow on saturday night, but it's snowing like hell now!

Well Saturday we were supposed to have brunch with Jelly and Jam but I cancelled on them because I had a killer headache. So I slept in then felt better around noon. I went to Lincoln and did the Marden's thing then the Hannaford then then came home, unloaded groceries and made watched football the rest of the night. Jelly and Jam came on Sunday for brunch. We had omelettes, cinnamon rolls fruit cheese etc. It was very good. For late lunch we had veggie chili which was also very good. I'll post the recipe for the delicious cake I made because I bet the wonder would like it.

oh and amy went to the dump and got me another mocha today. that was very much appreciated and i know it was a bother so i'd better give her the blog props that she craves.

weekend update:

well yesterday i stayed in bed way too late and amy brought me a dd mocha in bed which i very much appreciated. i didn't really do anything all day. watched food tv. then went to a friend's house and watched a STUPID movie. but what can you say when you're at someone's house and they're like "omg i love ben stiller!"...drink more wine. that's what i say. we got a foot of snow yesterday and that's not even an exagguration.

today i was wicked productive. after staying in bed too late i got up and jake came over. decided to come for dinner. so i went to the grocery store, came back, made angelfood cake, shoveled where my car was parked, made rolls, finished the angelfood waldorf, did laundry, picked up my room, took shit to the cellar, made roast chicken, stuffing, mashed taters, brocoli, gravy, did all the dishes (amy wiped some), and hung with jake and katie. watched some tv, took a shower, now i'm watching flaming lips/shins on austin city limits. last night i watched wilco. i love austin city limits.

Aunt Lil is desperately looking for a driver for her home trip in early march, so if you feel like going on a road trip with aunt lil, let me know.

I hate winter. I feel like my skin is wrinkling at warp speed. I feel like I look 98. I've used a WHOLE jar of facial moisturizer so far. I guess I better buy stock in clinique or mary kay or avon. I'm hoping I can convince JK to take me to Little Peter's tonight for an anniversary celebration. Wouldn't that be fun?

why is puking? does he have a fever?

Lunch for me was a #1 with a diet coke. At my house a #2 is a balogna sandwich with miracle whip.

Why do you care what you've already seen? You can look at the "movies I've seen" page.

I should point out that in order to be puked IN your mouth must be at least slightly open.

Is that the filet of fish? They don't have those at mckilby's but maybe I can convince JK to take me out for a burger for my anniversary. I wonder.

What was for lunch? I have the munchies. I don't know what to have for lunch. Hopefully you'll inspire me.

sorry a-lo you posted too slowly

Being puked IN is when you are sleeping with your child because they are sick and want to cuddle and they wake up and crawl on top of you and throw up in your face. THAT is being puked in and it's NOT PLEASANT.

I love how you threw yada yada yada in there....just as if we would miss that part. Anyway, what an accomplishment not make it to 2.75 and never vomited. You obviously don't count the "spitting up". I think the ultimate is to be puked IN which I have been thank you very much. "You can't dust for vomit now can you!!!"

well, we didn't have a snow day obviously. We got about 3 inches of snow i'd say

that was from A-Lo obviously because I wouldn't go see that ignorant movie if they paid me.

we had pasta and pesto with chicken last night. It was really good, i must
say. I think i have nearly perfected my recipe.

Also, i'm almost embarrassed to say that i fell asleep before 9:30 last
night, but i guess i was really tired because i slept really well, and until
7:30 this morning.

So tonight we'll probably go grocery shopping, tomorrow night i'm going to
see the Fockers, which I don't want to see but i do want to hang out with
this group of people that i'm going with so i'll pretend to like it, and
hopefully have a good dinner afterwards to make up for the stupid movie.

Hello, good morning. I have nothing, really to report. I did NOTHING last night but read. We had pasta with pesto and sauteed zucchini for dinner.

blog poll:

Will there be a snow day tomorrow?

What color is it and why do you think it was in the exchange in the first place!!!!!

Snoop - you need to be more ruthless during the product exchange!

according to "Glamour" this is what's in this year. Barly pink lipstick, BARELY wavy hair, non colored fingernails and no makeup. Sounds like there will be very little product exchanged next year if we try to keep with the trends.

I love stillwater conveninece. Their curry is excellent!

scratch that, i just remembered she tried three different movies. Some spanish movies are apparently formatted differently. This might be the case here.

Well I don't think it's fair but I'll comply. How does Penny know that it isn't the disc? Did anyone try it on another dvd player?

I don't know how you guys expect me to know all this stuff if you dont TELL ME!!!!! I'm NOT a psychic. I had no idea it was Tom's bday. It's in my calendar now. I won't forget next year. Happy Bday Tom - I wish, for your birthday, you'd let us refer to you as T-Square on the blog!!!

Last night JK watched "The Return of he New York Dolls: Live from the Royal Festival Hall: 2004". I thought it was like watching dead people but I guess JK warmed up to it after a while. I think 60 year old rockers should not perform in public. There should be a cutoff age.

I have never heard of this either. Did she ask the movie gallery technical support staff?

Wednesday, January 05, 2005

Norma is in the Calais hospital with some kind of stomach thing. She's been in since MOnday. Don't know what it is. She may come home tomorrow.

this house must be 74 degrees even though the thermostat's been on 60 all day.

i have a little cold today so i hope amy reads this and brings me home a superjuice.

work was good.

leigh go to the damned doctor!

They should make it like friendster so you can see your friends friends. They should also average all your friends ratings of movies, but maybe they do that.

I wonder where Leigh is. What I HATE about netflix is that I will never get through all the movies on my queue. I watch 3 then add 5 to the list. It's so stupid.

CARNAGE UPDATE

Well luckily (if you call it that) they only killed 1 hen. The roosters have come within site but still haven't been to the hen house. I think they're looking for the hens (who are all in the house locked in now). Roosters aren't very smart.

I hate it when I get caught dressing like someone else. In fact, JK and I dressed the same for LRNYE on accident (as MK would say). Luckily I had clothing in the suitcase and could change my shirt on the way down!!!

The two huskies that live up the road from me. I believe they got 2 hens. No final count yet. The roosters won't come back yet.

Well the FUCKING dogs killed my hen and drove the rest of my chickens to the hills.

Cremora extra creamy...

after 1/2 (of the gigantic cup that jen got me for xmas) a cup of coffee i HATE this stuff. It coats your throat with some kind of phlegmy film. Maybe I used too much. I have to use more since i've stopped using sugar.

I for one am glad you died your hair. Is it black? Are you keeping it black till 2008?

Fear Factor is the ultimate trash tv for me. I love it, but I do usually have to change the channel during the eating challenges.

Burlington Bridge Report

Bridge was held at the home of O and S, hosted by R. There were only SIX of us. That was better than 7 in my opinion because you don't have to wait for a Dummy to bid. You just bid on your hand and take a chance on the dummy hand. I bid all the time and got set several time but that's ok, we had fun didn't we. It really was not difficult to bid with the dummy, if you dared, because it was LOADED every single times. My strategy was to bid if nobody else did and then bid them up to two or three just to make it interesting if I could. Needless to say, I got low because of this ignorant strategy. But it didn't matter anyway did it, because as hostess I was ineligible for prizes. They all HATED the kettle corn popcorn that I bought and preferred the stale popcorn out of the giant can instead. There was no treat, as it is on hiatus for the winter. Prizes were won by: Suzanne - High; Helen - low; Tracey - goose. The prizes were chocolates that I got for xmas gifts in various sizes and varieties.

We got done WICKED early - 9:00 - so I was in time for the second quarter of the orange bowl. It was a blowout though and not worth watching so I read VF. Didn't sleep at all last night due to annoying noises in my house and being nervous about not hearing the alarm from upstairs. Got up at 5:30 today, went to bangor with ODS and here I am. Jen's working today. I bought a glamour so I could put SOMETHING on the blog. Should we have a tsunami blogathon fundraiser?

Blog review:

Cremora, Extra Creamy

It's like cremora but tastes creamier. It has twice the fat however at 1g per tsp. It does not change the viscosity of the coffee any differently than regular cremora however. I don't think it's worth the extra $$.

Well I've retrieved my car from Leigh's. Had a delightful ride down with Orlie this morning. I'm on my second giant cup of coffee.

those comments are a lot better than "this is disgusting."

I forgot to report on dinner last night. We had steak with sauteed shrooms and onions, basmati rice and green beans. I forced my children to each have one bite of onion and mushroom. Isaiah took a full 10 minutes to chew his shroom. Some of the comments were "why do we have to have green beans EVERY NIGHT" (Isaiah) (we do NOT have green beans every night, by the way). "these onions are ALMOST good" (maddy) "can I have a cookie?" (Isaiah).

Breaking News....

The Burlington Mall has been sold, along with the Harris Farm, to a couple from Southern Maine. More in the Bridge Report tomorrow.

THANKS for all that Simon & Simon info Leigh.

oh also rachael and i went to starbucks in bangor before xmas and were so disgusted by the coldness of the whole affair that i wrote a letter. i got a coupon for a free beverage in the mail on saturday.

Last night JK and I watched, what can only be described as, a very disappointing Sugar Bowl. The Hokies LOST of course, but we expected that, what we didn't expect was the TOTAL lack of offense. Well, it's over now and we can get a new quarterback and all will be fine in two years. Tonight is bridge and I'm working today.

sunday i slept until 11! but shortly after i got out of bed jake and katie came and said 'let's go to breakfast.'. so we tried one place in the next town but they close at 11:30 and we got there at like, 11:40 so they wouldn't take us. so we drove around robin hood's barn to this restaurant called echo 52 in berwick which looked good but j and k thought was too expensive. so then we went to sommersworth to this other place and got inside and katie saw someone she didn't want to talk to so we left. then we went to dover to bickford's and it took us almost an hour to get our food. there were so many other problems, i quietly asked to speak to the manager. she gave us our breakfasts for free and jake and katie weren't embarassed because i didn't cause a scene. i said to her, 'let me tell you about our experience today' and told her about the bad service, cold food, long wait, no flatware etc. then we went to an odd lots store and i got shower spray. jake bought a recliner i think. he was going back i didn't go with him. then i came home and amy was sleeping so i was quiet until she woke up then i cleaned and did dishes and a little laundry. i had leftover EVO and cheesecake for suppah. stayed up too late, slept.

saturday blog

so, saturday i woke up and just as i was getting clear headed leigh came into the room for something, i don't remember what. but she went to hannaford and while she was gone i layed there and listened to amy clean the kitchen. when leigh got back she made us a SPECTACULAR breakfast of omlettes with ham cheese onion and tomato, sausage links, toast, cinnamon coffee, and juice. MAD BLOG PROPS SNOOP, YO! then amy had a shopping bug (imagine that) so we went to target. we got some christmas stuff on sale..i got my cards for next year, we got some hershey's kisses, i got some french style stationary (i can't describe it), we found some plain linen napkins.....6 for 3 bucks or something. then we went to dd and i got a latte. then we went to mardens where i didn't see a thing until on our way out. but OH MY GOD did i ever find something!!!! this is only for rk, no one else will get it. do you remember the log cabin restaurant and that purple cow milk cup i used to have??? do you remember the cow creamers at that place? i found a cow creamer at marden's! 88 cents!!! now if i could only find one of those purple cow cups. anyway i also found an angelfood cake tin to make amy angelfood waldorf. then we went back to leigh's and took showers. went to EVO for lunch. i had sausage pizza, yum. the girls had pasta dishes that they liked but i wasn't thrilled with. whatever. then we dropped leigh off and headed to portland. we saw a hockey game with unk and maureen. good times. one of the cute captains who is out on injury was signing autographs between periods. maureen and i went out to get an eyefull. after the game, we came home, exhausted. slept.

good god i have so much to blog i don't even know where to start. i guess i'll start with friday. friday i got up early....7:52 on my own! and took a shower and headed to rk's. she made me and jk eggs florentine for brekky. it was good, but not my favorite dish ever you know? then i headed to bangor to chill with leigh. i thought we were going to make cupcakes and go to EVO but that didn't happen. she cleaned like a madwoman, we went to dollar tree. omg i got the best shit at dollar tree! i found this colloidal oatmeal lotion (compare to aveeno) and it works really well. even rachael testified that my skin is softer than normal. so i hid that so as to not lose that during product exchange. then we went to hannaford and wendy's for lunch. leigh got ready for work. we got lattes. i dropped her off at work. i went to bob's and got a cute haircut. then i went back to leigh's and watched two episodes of nip/tuck with tom. emily and sean showed up, followed by rk and jk. rk and i went to get leigh. while rk went to hannaford, i went to starbucks and got myself a small cafe mocha. yum. you know the rest.

I also read a little of my mag and 6 chapters of Vanity Fair which I'm finding highly amusing. I'm glad the guy who introduced it thinks it's the best novel in the English Language. I wonder if I have to read War and Peace next.

Blog Poll: Have you read War and Peace?

Ok since last you saw me I have watched all or part of about 6 football games. Tonight is the game of games for us though - as VT is playing Auburn. I know how much you all care about this. Anyway I'm looking at Atlanta vs. Pittsburg for the Superbowl. I've picked Pitt for my AFC team instead of the Pat's just to make it interesting here at my house during the AFC championship game. I was rooting WICKEDLY for Pitt's 2nd and 3rd string against Bledsoe and the Bills and it paid off didn't it! He sucks! Anyway, I also did mega laundry and dishes and still have more to do. I also went shopping twice and got groceries and misc odds and ends. I had a fun visit with the wonders on Saturday and picked up my EXCELLENT present - the 1000 greatest movies of all time 1971 edition.

Well I don't need to call Jen because she's back. You're a good mom, lying to your kid like that. I'm trying to get maddy to try out for the play "Treasure Island"

Taily has decided that she is my assistant today. She has been laying in front of my printer all day proofing everything I print.

I don't know that that is a reasonable resolution. Perhaps you should resolve to losing 1 pound then make another resolution after you do that.

Blog Poll

What time should I call Jen?

My resolution is to find some COOL website that will give me trendy and interesting news and information everyday.

Well I tried to post this on Friday, but I think you should all wear parachute pants and leg warmers to the concert - and maybe one of those shirts that zips up the sides. At the very least you should have shoulder pade - big ones.

i've been cleaning the house. and, as amy will testify, wearing my apron! it's handy to wipe dishpan hands on.
