sorry, my bad, 5th grade spelling

sorry, my bad, 5th grade spelling

maddy has moved to fifth grade math, fyi

well Amy you better not start trying to push that crap on us. Nothing ever made be break out more than MK cosmetics. Except maybe I like the lipstick, I can't remember. And you KNOW ltl is an Avon person so forget about her.

So onword with my Bangor report since Jennykins obviously isn't going to tell you what we did....

We went to Marden's and we got so many great deals - we just ran out of time and money I guess and cart space, so we had to leave. Other deals were xmas gift $2, xmas trays for xiusie q, .69 each, Pilot Pens $4 for 6 and I don't know all what else but i brought home two giant bags of crap. Oh, I got Is. a large stuffed dog that he saw at Lincoln Marden's so I knew he really wanted it. He said it was "softer than Golden" (his favorite dog).

Then we went to friendly's. Jen and I had the 5 oz burger deluxe she had slaw, I had fries and they weren't even soggy like they usually are. Then we went to circuit city where i got the game boys, then to Filene's where we checked out mixer prices for Opus. After that we were quite bushed so we went to Starbucks for coffee. Jen - peppermint mocha latte, me Mochachino and gingerbread biscotti, Mad - cold hot chocolate and sugar cookie. Then we went to WAlismart where Mad finally found a pair of pants she like so she got Two pair and a shirt. The boy got 3 pair of pants and I got a scarf and a $1 very large purse for the Florida trip. It's pink plastic with an 'r" on it.

After that we went to Starbucks where Jen had a gingerbread latte, I had a coffee and Mad had a chocolate milk. We were bushed and came home.

Tonight we will be watching disc 1 season 1 of Seinfeld.

I can't believe none of you have a weekend blog! What gives.

Well, I got all my xmas shopping done yesterday, not that I had much to do. So now all I have to do is wrap and wait for the mail.

So here's the official xmas list from Maddy.

Alladin Special Ediction
Toy Story 2
The Princess Diaries 2

I got them Brother Bear

For clothes he takes a 6 slim and she takes 8 slims. He takes a size 5 shirt. I think that's all the info everyone asked for.

Maddy got isaish Tom and Jerry - Magic Ring and Tom and Jerry - The Movie.

VT 24 VA 10

.....and we're still better than you (aren't we T-Bone)

I'll have a steak.

Friday, November 26, 2004

i don't have a kitchen but tyler could use....

cookie sheets (not a gadget i know, but sometimes theyr'e cheap at mardens)
a zester or microplane
i think he wants a silipat too, just ask him. hee hee

oh and yesterday my hair looked FABULOUS. and today it looked good too even though i didn't do anything to it.

and rr, though it's too late, i would have followed leigh's advice. just email the guy, tell him you hope he has a happy and safe tg, wonderful seeing him, and wait. i hate waiting....

for some reason, i forgot my cell phone when i left today. i never forget my phone. it drove rachael crazy. i knew it would.

at lunch l and i discussed nye and decided it was on at her house. tom will probably stay upstairs because of his ankle, and it is going to be simple...pizza, maybe chinese, some beers, and some movies. nothing big. but that's what i'm doing and leigh's doing and i assume all bloggers are invited to attend.

after lunch we decided we needed more caffeine. we went to dd and got medium peppermint mocha lattes. DELISH. i love them and i want one every day. we decided to go to union street and hit the dollar tree. what a thrill! there was so much good stuff there i spent 20 dollars! can you believe it? but i did. got some christmas shopping done, beware.

after that we pretty much were done. ellen asked me in old town if i needed another coffee but at this point i think i'll be up all night so i declined. props to ellen for treats!

caffeine high

so i went to ellen's at 8:30 and we took off for our day of holiday shopping. first we dropped off her car. then lovely little leigh picked us up and first stop was starbucks. ellen got a small chai and leigh and i got medium gingerbread lattes. really good. we shared gingerbread and apple cake. delish. then we hit toys 'r' us. busy but not too bad. ellen picked up some stuff. i figured out what i'm going to get teh kids. i'm going to get i a lego-like pirate ship kit and m a build and decorate your own purse, i think. after that we went to best buy and got something or other. then we went to....k mart, i guess, and found a few little goodies. then we decided to hit smokey bones. we had NO WAIT. we thought it would be packed but it wasn't! ellen and i shared baby back ribs. they were good. the cornbread, though overpriced at nearly 4$, tastes like dessert, it's good. leigh had brunswick stew (which is like spaghetti sauce with a lot of meat in it to me) and a chicken flatbread sandwich. all yummy.

so i got home last night around 9 and r made me a GREAT tg day sandwich. YUM. we watched apprentice. i'm so glad andy got it. initially i was hoping sandy or jen would get the axe, but then i saw how he did (or did not as the case may be) defend himself. and this was a supposedly nationally ranked debate champion? and his comeback was literally 'whatever." when sandy challenged him? c'mon, y'fiyed.

then i chatted online for a bit, checked in with t who also had a good tg with his fam, and went to bed. i was hogging half the bed and m was hogging a third, so i snuck into one inch. my butt hung over the side of the bed most of the night and once i got up and picked them up and lined them up in the bed so we'd all have room. but they just squished together like sardines against me, and my ass hung out again. my ass isn't THAT big. i is a bed hog.

at 6am he asked if he could go downstairs, which i found to be one of the singlemost silly q's i've ever been asked, especially waken up to be asked. i said of course. he asked if he could play on the puter, i said of course. he clomped downstairs, then CHARGED back upstairs and yelled 'auntie, there's a TON of snow outside!!!!!!!!!!!!' approx 1 inch fell last night. m asked if there was enough for a snowman, i said no. she got up. so i started the day EXHAUSTED.

LRNYE is ON!!!!

whew what a day! i have a lot to blog. well, first of all, tg was lovely. a good time was had by all. hits of the day? ellen's mashed supertaters and r's cornbread stuffing. yummers. thanks gg for being the hostess with the mostest once again.

after, r, m, and i headed to the chez lemur. i was very excited that i would be able to have TWO cafe mocha's from th...one when we got to town, one when we left. THEY WEREN'T OPEN! CANADIANS DON'T EVEN HAVE THANKSGIVING WHEN WE DO! disgusted, we went to dd for lattes......the friggin machine was broken! we settled on half coffee/half hot chocolate with a little cream. that was a good combo. saw the fam and the wonders but did not spend the night. so instead of 2 cafe mochas, i got none, but it was a lovely visit despite my coffee woes.

"The Pudding"
or
"Gram's Famous Steamed Pudding"
or
"The Pud"
or
"Suet Pudding"

Mix all together (mixer works best)
1/2 cup crisco
1 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
raisins if desired

put in greased coffee can and cover with waxed paper held on with an elastic. Steam 1 1/2 to two hours.

The steamed pudding was fine but It took me two attempts to present an edible products. Jen's pudding was excellent but my crust was tough. The stuffing was excellent.

Wednesday, November 24, 2004

andrea's flying home tomorrow morning...i wonder if you'll be on teh same flight...

Well the stuffing is well on it's way, I did all the prep work so all I have to do is mix and bake early tomorrow. The hard sauce is done. The pud is next.

Jen and I have cracked open a bottle of Coppola Claret and all is well with the world.

I wonder how much poultry seasoning you're supposed to use in stuffing?

RR - what are your plans for TG? Are any of you getting out of work early?

I'm thankful for so much, I just can't list it right now or I might prioritize wrongfully.

I tried, I can't do it right now.

for me as much as you

Accomplished list:
list to Jen
dishes done
2 loads of laundry
bathroom cleaned
cornbread made

Unaccomplished list:
hard sauce
stuffing #1
stuffing #1
chocolate cream pie
steamed pudding
get dish from suzanne to cook pud in
fold clothes
wash floor
sweep up dead flies
wash windows
drink wine

Well RR, bridge will be on Tuesday and at Suzanne's house.

A-Lo have you picked a car yet? Are you finally gonna get rid of that crappy Probe?

Blog Review: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Holy crap. Well, it certainly was a star studded cast. Clooney, Barrymore, Roberts cameos by Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Rutger Hauer and a million other people. It's SOOO stupid. But we managed to make it through the entire show. The best thing is little clips from the gong show. It's wild and crazy and quite unbelievable but I DO recommend it for the novelty.

Of course you should have candy, and apple turkeys.

Anyone heard from Jen today?

Bridge Report

Bridge was held at the home of Aunt Lora and all the regulars were there. The cards were very strange. I either had 21 points or 0 points. I can't really say that, I have several decent helping hands though I screwed up several times. Leaving myself unable to get back to the dummy hand one time (when it had several good cards in it, but I was short suited and I played it all wrong) and trumping my partners good queens TWICE!!! Ugh, I hate it when I play stupidly. But Aunt Lora distracts me sometimes. Anyway, the snack was popcorn or canday and the treat was my very favorite - Cherry Nut Cake!!! Just for me. Prizes were won by: Lill - High, Gram - goose, Faye - Low. A good time was had by all. Next week bridge will be held at aunt LIl's.

RR - if you're up for bridge over your XMAS break, let me know, we'll need an 8th.

I wish some one would give me one of those copper jello molds that everyone used to have. They would make great steamed pudding molds.

LTL is famous for her phone calls. I might need you myself next week LTL. Maybe you could have a little cottage industry in that.

I'm typing specifications and making steamed pudding and cornbread, I don't know how far I'll go on stuffing today, but will probably do all the prep work. I also have to clean house, and am waiting for Jen.

DON'T PANIC!!!!!! If you truly have a connection then there will be another date! Go ahead, send him the email, then sit back and be patient. Remember, as Doris Day aptly sang..."Whatever will be, will be." These things are difficult to wait through, but I believe in fate. If it is meant to be then he will return your contacts. Do you have ANY idea what his plans were for this week? Was he going away for several days? In my experience, people sense desperation, and it puts pressure on them, so relax. After TG, if he still doesn't contact you, you can always find a reason to "bump" into him to remind him.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004

wow, a whole hour and a half without me and not one person blogged.

I can't believe my kids don't have school tomorrow.

i've never understood why they want you to have the car bought before you get the loan. Why don't they give you the loan first so you'll know you have the money.

don't you hate it when you HAVE to do something but you just don't feel like leaving the house? I HAVE to go to Lincoln today. DAmmit.

RR - I'm still waiting for you to define "crut".

I wonder if these are co-worker, client or inter-family crisis? You don't have to answer that.

Snoop - speaking of your job...what's going on? Are you an official AP yet?

It's a matter of cost vs. benefit. You might spend $12G, but will you be able to drive 6 hours without wondering every minute if your car is going to die? Probably not, as I never did that even with a brand new car, but you probably won't have to worry quite so much. Find someone to car pool with and save your money if you want to be so cheap!

forget ADD medicine

see what 3 cups of coffee can do?

success it works!! Eureka!!!!

the paper jam is cleared but the damn thing still won't print.

printer status

they make these things as difficult as possible, I have removed 9 screws and still can't get the damnable thing apart. I piece of paper 2 x 1.5 has been removed.

Fruitcake Update

Amy - you can let the office know that I've personally candied orange and lemon peel for their fruitcake. I just need to get some raisins and my new mixer paddle and production will begin.

Blog Poll

How much work is getting done in your office today? What are the TG topics of discussion?

and for what it's worth, I wouldn't worry too much about it RR the holidays are a very difficult time to get together with people. Wait till after TG before you panic.

JK and I finished season 4 disc 3 of the Sopranos yesterday and I have to say it's growing quite tiresome. I think only one person has been "hit" the entire season, it's too emotional. It's boring. Anyway, we also watched the first half of MNF and there was no nudity or interracial sex at all so it was kind of disappointing after all the hubbub from last week.

I have to go to the grocery myself and bridge is tonight. I have an irreconcilable paper jam and am dealing with that today.

ha ha ha LTL...i have two words for you aka golden girls: operation snowball.

and THANK YOU r for adding your shaw's card to my account. i'm determined that that 2 cents here and there will add up. in fact, tonight i went to shaws instead of hannaford and i filled up at mobil, just in the hopes it works someday. anyone else want to add their shaw's card to my upromise account? lemme know .

tonight i'm making chicken florentine and penne for suppah. i also bought chocolate mint graham cookies. i couldn't resist.

advice for bloggers: don't go near a supermarket this week. insanity.

researching....the toyometer is leaning against PS2.

I am actually considering getting them a PS2, but I have to be convinced there are games other than scooby doo that I would approve of.

I am at an absolute loss of ideas for xmas gifts for my kids. They don't want anything but movies and they only want a few. What shall I do?

It's not often that you find a book Isaiah LOVES but he absolutely loved the Boxcar children so I highly recommend books 2 and on for xmas gifts. Let me know though so i don't get duplicates.

I say it's never to early for kids to learn that "weird can be fun" this way when he grows up he might learn to accept the rest of us a little more.

Didn't do much this weekend. Friday night JK and I went out for dinner, saturday i made a quick trip to Bangor. I meant to get groceries but had a SEVERE allergy attach and had to come home. At night i had an even more severe attack. I guess I went off my meds a little too early so I'm back on the junk. M and I had a great time at the movies. We think we have to go see Incredibles again.

Sunday - JK had fire training, i didn't do much, but I did finally get groceries after two weeks of complaining about not having groceries. I had to go though because I needed Claritin. Watched football all afternoon when i wasn't shopping. Watched D.H. Jen you'll be pleased to know i entered my shaws card on your upromise account.

3 dates in one weekend? way to go!

i have arrived at ct. thanks to snoop for entertaining me through woostah, as she almost always does. speaking of which, are you working sunday snoop? because that could really cramp my style driving home.

if you saw how long my hair is right now you woulldn't say that. It's as big as you can imagine. I look like I belong in a trans am.

any helpful comments on my impending hairdo would be appreciated.

IIIII want a peppermint-mocha latte NOOOOOWWWW, Daddy!!!!

Jen, remember your printer problems? I'm having scanner issues. Serenity Now.

I think I'm gonna take a real estate course, what do you think?

How can you not get an email sent from your own office?

Not that great - i came in 45th the night before and 25th before that, I let JK play the last hour for me because I was on the phone with Dawn.

Just talked to Jen, LTL is out today, i have housework to do. Came in 48th in the poker game last night.

Just talked to Jen, LTL is out today, i have housework to do. Came in 48th in the poker game last night.

i agree with you in that i have no idea how trump is going to hire ANY of these freaks. none of them strike me as particularly good at more than one thing, if they are even good at one thing.

RR, I"ll say this for your friends, they all have cool pics on their profiles.

I am SO glad i didn't go to the Clinton Library opening. I would NOT have been able to tolerate Bush at all.

when will you be home? when will you be free?

well I really think we should have blogtini's and the product exchange at the very least.

for some reason I thought you were presenting that as an example of when you might have to say 'if i have to swear", i didn't entirely realize you actually hurt yourself. Though I did consider the possibility, then I forgot to ask the follow up question. Sorry. Did you aloe it?

what the hell am i gonna watch tonight. No Sopranos. I'll have to watch survivor. Dammit, I forgot to mail back to catch a thief.

that would work. Ash give us your schedule.

This weeks junkmail involves watches. I've gotten about 47 emails that said "want a watch?" then have a web address.

Leigh may have to work.

but if leigh doesn't have a rocking new years party we can have one at barnaby's.

well, I'm VERY excited i just got all the girls presents. RR, will you be home for the blog product exchange and Leigh's Rockin New Year's Eve Party II?

Blog Poll: Peppermint Schnapps - Yeah! or EWWW!

Well I watched the exciting conclusion to Day of Destruction and I have to say, it was a bit of a let down. First of all Nancy is a terrible actress, I mean I always liked her, but she just wasn't a convincing hard nosed reporter you know? Secondly they showed all the exciting storm components during the commercials. Thirdly they killed off the bad guys too early, and fourthly, it was just anticlimactic they didn't show enough horrible storm stuff.

yeah, those other people probably need vodka or grain alcohol to cope!

I wish i had some of that coffee.

She looks like a disgusting skeleton. Guys think she's hot because of her most famous line..."They're real...and they're spectacular!" They just want to find out for themselves.

Is it supposed to be a grammar check too? or just a spell check?

Oh I should do mine too, I don't have a photo though, I'll try to get one.

I don't have Ian or Audrey's I emailed you the others.

weekend plans?

I hate the fake swear references to JC as in:
Jeesum Crow
Jeesum Cranny
Jeepers Creepers
Jumpin Jehosephat

how many can you list?

An other episode of WILD KINGDOM!!!

Last night after we were all tucked in our beds (after Day of Destruction of course), and the house was all quiet, we heard a little mouse in the floor above our heads busily building a nest. JK showed the cat the sound (held her up to the ceiling and said "go get it")
The cat was very disinterested. This A.m. morbid maddy gets up and says there's a mouse body and a mouse head under the table and there's a huge splotch of blood all over the floor. There wasn't of course, well, ok, there was a head, but that is all. There is still at least one mouse to go.

HOORAY!!!! Amy joins us! I think you should email us their names and addresses so we can sent them holiday cards!

Apparently I"m an office novelty! Thanks Amy!!! Way to make your sister feel like a freak!!!

my favorite stuffing is cranberry sausage cornbread.

Blog Review:

To Catch a Thief
starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly

This is a Hitchcock movie, like all the rest with Cary. Cary plays a debonnaire retired jewel thief that lives in Monaco or something.
He falls madly and recklessly in love with Grace and they solve a mystery together and live happily ever after. Stupid, yes, but there's something simple and lovely about Hitchcock movies.

That's what you should do a-lo, get a turkey cutlet and some frozen squash and make a batch of suffing.

I'm in if it works in my schedule! When the heck is it?

We did have STS last year for RTG and I have to admit it was pretty good.

Hold on a minute. How much does it cost? Is it just watching or playing too? When is it? Can you smoke cigars? Do you need dark glasses and a stupid hat?

with sausage and cranberries?

hey, if you're really bored tonight don't miss the exciting conclusion of "Day of Destruction"

you don't love stove top! you're just saying that so i'll say EWWWWW

I'm so jealous!!! I want to come!

Was it you?

You put such a cute pic on friendster!!!

blog poll:

"Stuffing" is my task for TG. What is your favorite kind of stuffing?

project over, i'm off until friday. today i read several hundred paragraphs about how children should be allowed to have cell phones in classes.

Jones is doing an entire holiday meal 6 pack this year!

and brazil

our group has read about 10,000 essays this week. the essays are all immigrants in ma. here's a list of the countries they're from (that i can remember)

ghana, spain, dominican republic, haiti, vietnam, thailand, peru, argentina, moldavia, kazakstan, russia, congo, china, japan, puerto rico (not really a country, but not a state either!), congo, sudan, columbia, bosnia, india....not one mexican or canadian. go figure.

when i left work today i saw a man walking a goat.

thanks to whomever did the nimda work, keep it up!

No one would want to be friends with me either, but somehow I manage to maintain a couple of them. My main reason for wanting to join is to hook up some of my other friends.

Where are you going on the date? What are the details?

Then I'd have 6 friends!!!

Well I don't know what happened, but I'm sure whatever it is it is totally due to my own incompetance. Anyway, since I'm now on friendster with a total of 1 friend now the real problems strike. You have to put on a picture. Since I never let anyone take photos of me I have none. I'll have to work on that. Then you have to make your profile cool. Ugh the pressure.

On the homefront, it's getting colder and I live in maine, that means I've been conducting my own personal reign of terror on houseflies all the livelong day.

I didn't get any invitation!!!! I would never shun you intentionally, I'm way too desperate for that! How did I get a profile? I don't remember doing any of this.

Finally Accepted

I really feel like a cool part of the global community, as I've apparently been accepted or invited to Friendster. I wonder who in the world thinks I'm cool enough to join?

Correction

"Mama, I know George Bush is president, but I saw a Million John Kerry signs in Orono and only ONE Bush sign

I talk to my kids about Politics all the time. Kids are so funny and thoughtful.

The day after the election Isaiah went to a play in Orono. Isaiah said to me. "Mama, I know George Bush is president, but I say a Million John Kerry signs in Orono and only ONE Bush sign." It was so good of him to try and make me feel better. I do try to tell them WHY I suport this person or the other. I also TRY to generalize as much as possible. Who knows what they hear me ranting about though when I don't think they're listening.

One of my favorite kids quotes though, was when Kevin Raye was running against Mike Michaud. Maddy, ever tuned to the commercials said "I'm going to vote for Mike Michaud, I'm tired of Kevin Raye's dirty tricks". That was completely out of the blue. It was hysterical, and I'm glad my kids believe their votes mean something.

Who are Lindsay and Wilmer? What ordeal? In poultry news. My hen came back after an extended vacation. I wonder where she went. I wish I could hook up camera's to my pets like that guy did on 60 minutes this week.

Well now Condi will really be able to piss of the entire world and the dems are going to elect a dud for sen min lead too, all you can do is sit back and laugh I guess. It's like a really bad movie.

It's not like Powell had any influence anyway. Maybe they'll make Ashcroft SOD THEN we'll show them. I suspect it might be Rudy though. He's been such a great cheerleader, he's bound to get some posh appointment.

What time is the surgery? I thought she was going to get there at 2? Don't you HATE being vomited upon? It's the worst thing in the world.

Oh, the boy is home today with the disease he and his sister always get. Hours of fever, 1 bout of vomiting, hours of fever, feeling fine but tired.

Blog Review: American Music Awards (Night of the Lyrically Dead)

The should also have been billed as the Music Botox Awards. Holy, man, if any should could make you scream for a bad disaster movie this sure did. The night started off wish good performances by Gwen Stephanie and the very hot Lennie Kravitz, but didn't anyone ever tell these people that you're not supposed to peak in the first 5 minutes? I mean really. Kelly Osbourne presented with Nick Lachey. Then the woefully untalented Jessica Simpson proved she wasn't lip synching by warpling and convulsing through that stupid T-Shirt song (while sitting, mind you, so no one could comment on the dancing) but she is SO BAAAAD! Anyway, her performance started the downward slide to the show. She was followed by some country dude and "Uncle Cracker" who is so hideous and such a bad singer I was pretty ashamed to even have heard of him, but luckily I couldn't name anything he'd done so I didn't really know if he was supposed to be a musician or a profession dufus. After that came the extremely high Diana Ross, in a beautiful dress but her eyelids looked pinned up with tacks. Then the best performance of the evening the stumbling DRUNK Anna Nicole Smith - OMB it was so embarassing. Why would they put a DRUNK on stage. Luckily none of it was lost on Jimmy Kimmel who made fun of her for the rest of the hour. My viewing ended when Rod Stewart, nicely preserved himself, started singing What a Wonderful World. First of all, it isn't and second of all who the hell told Rod his has a face for TV and a voice for classics. Sorry Rod, luv ya man, but stick to songs you can talk or yell through. This was just the first hour folks, I turned it over to Day of Destruction and it was MUCH more entertaining and had a star studded, must watch cast of Brian Dennehy, Randy Quaid and Nancy McKeon. You've only missed the build up and not the massive devastation though so you can watch for yourself Wednesday.

Yes you can put me on your list as I already get amazon promortions and NO i can't remove that thing because I don't program it, blogger does.

Amy- I apologize for mixing you up with Rachael. I would also like to state for the record that I also apologize to you for making it snow. I am also apologizing for depriving you of the lego set that you wanted for your 7th birthday...I should have never given you the whining friggin doll

I would also like to apologize for the Backstreet boys, Hanson, and anything bad that Liam might do tonight.

poor tyler. he works so hard and they just walk all over him. that pisses me off wicked bad. no one fucks with my boy!

as for me i had a GREAT day at work. i liked what i was doing, i was very productive, and i schmoozed with the right people. and i'm over my cold. and i got a cinnamon coffee on my way home. and i get to see little leigh this weekend :-)

...and he owes amy an apology for confusing me with her

Apologies

Leigh- I'm sorry I caused you to get a cold
Amy- I'm sorry that you are all pumped up on caffeine and have no one to take it out on.
Emily- I'm sorry for all of the fliers and junk mail that I stuff in your mailbox every Friday.
Jen- I'm sorry that you caught a cold from me.
Ashely- I'm sorry for _________________________ (fill in)

I would also like to take this chance to apologize for high gas prices, the war on terror, bush's reelection, the middle east senario, and Michael Bolton.

whew!

I haven't seen it? Which is it?

You should also apologize for me being all pumped up on caffeine and having no one to take it out on. Would the Apprentices apologize for doing a great job? I think not. If you apologize one time, they'll just think you're a sucker and blame you for everything. Tony Soprano says NEVER APOLOGIZE. Especially if you did something that someone is accusing you of. Then they know you really did it.

Another reason I love my job

Well I woke up this morning and was swamped with angry emails from faculty members and dorm heads - apparently my minions did TOO GOOD A JOB with our dorm decoration, and the dorm heads were mad that we had shown them up. They said that my dorm implied that other dorms weren't good just because other dorms didn't have anything up. So, I had to issue a formal apology to all students and dorm faculty.

Then I had to deal with the fact that my kids had the nerve to put in colored chalk "Kent school rules" and "Go kent" on the pavement sidewalks on campus this morning. We have done this every year, but now my dorm is, according to outraged faculty, "actively working to destroy the beauty of our campus". So I had to write another apology to the faculty and to maintenance, and had to promise that I myself will go around this afternoon and wash everything away. Hopefully the rain and sleet will do some of that, but I'm looking forward to being out in the rain this afternoon cleaning the pavement.

I have to go now and see what else I have to apologize for....

Blog poll:

What has gone wrong for you today that you would like me to take responsibility for?

Blog Poll: What are you doing this weekend?

I disagree. So what that she had a few connections. ON most of the tasks at least one person has an advantage so so what. The show did highlight how much she knew and how inept the other people were. They could have ASKED if there were any online websites that geared to brides in the area. DUH!!!! And that bit with standing in Grand Central Station? That was pathetic!!! Stand out in front of macy's at least!!! At least you'd know people were shopping for SOMETHING!!!

We watched This old House and Made in Maine, then apprentice. I couldn't believe how miserable those people were at their task. I agreed with Caroline - send them all home. Have they NEVER HEARD of the internet?

mad props to me on my apprentice pic!

a_lo brought home a rotisserie chicken tonight and so i made dinner. chicken, garlic smashed, peas (gg style with milk n' buttah), and sauteed spinach. yum. and amy cut apples and i made crisp. YUM.

by the way, i'd like to take this opportunity to encourage all of you in joining me in thanking amy for taking such good care of me in my time of poverty. she keeps buying me food without complaining...let's all give her her propahs!

i wanted to blog that tuesday night i made amy maple orange salmon, baked sweet taters, and beets. it was an awesome, healthy, and colorful dinner.

last night wifeswap and nanny 911 were both quite fulfilling. let's hope apprentice is a little better this week, last week's i found a bit boring and predictable. raj=creepy.

who gets it tonight? i say either ivanna or chris

amy's not here. i guess she's made her hannaford (or market basket) and home despot run. will she telepathically know i'd love to have a latte?

we're grading these special ed portfolio's right now. we actually just took the qualifying test to take them. if i don't qualify, tomorrow will be a short day. of course, they're not going to tell us if we qualify until 8 am tomorrow morning. that's just bullshit, but what i'm realizing is that this organization i work at is so disorganized that they wouldn't know if their heads were up their respective asses unless...well, continuing that metaphor would probably result in something rather unpleasant. choose your own.

...you know, how he bakes the biscuits in the soup?

You're mention of chicken pot pie makes me want orlies biscuits and beef stew.

Jen is working, LTL is off, everyone else has done their duty haven't they?

That first link didn't work, I didn't try the second as I have a total vulgarity policy this week.

Didn't you know? Tomorrow is Blog Spirit Day - you better spray paint some posters for us too!

I hope you have fire alarm pull stations at each exit in that dorm. How many people does it hold anyway?

Today I am continuing my duties as the Fire Protection Princess.

Making up for LTL's absence

I'll try to blog more today to help things out. I would LOVE to go see the incredibles Rachael- it looks like a cool film. However, I need to second Leigh's report of Team America- it is an amazingly disturbing, insulting and funny film....you REALLY need to see it. The songs that they wrote for the film are AWESOME....

We worked to prepare for spirit day yesterday- I'll have to blog pictures of myself and the kids spraypainting ideas onto sheets that we're going to hang up. The dorm should be pretty impressive come Friday. Other dorms are talking trash about winning the dorm spirit contest, but my kids are fired up- I hope we'll win.

The play is coming along- slowly. A lot of people are missing their cues though. I got my costume last night- it makes me look like a pregnant strawberry shortcake. I love being the king of hearts. I will definitely require costume checks before I accept roles in the future.

The dorm t-shirts come in today- woo hoo! I'm excited.

Now I have to grade papers- lucky me.

Well I wish you'd go with me to the incredibles.

You will have to go three times. The blog will be boring today without LTL. I don't know if Leigh and Ash are on duty today.

plastic and duct tape.

The kids are home today. I hate when the morning starts out with the phone ringing. I need my transition time.

Wednesday, November 10, 2004

I can't stand black coffee. Coffee without cremora is just wrong IMHO. Besides if you drink it black you'll get really picky about what coffee you drink because you can't mask it will all the additives and preservatives.

I think maybe we'll go see The Incredibles this weekend.

I don't believe in organized religion so they won't be doing any of that cult crap. Anyway, all is well with the boys glasses. Dr. Weatherbee is a glasses fixing angel!!!

i think in some ways organized sports are as dangerous and mind-damaging as good news club. maybe your daughter will spend all her time playing with her hair and running away from the bible.

I also deserve MAJOR credit for not punching someone in the face on Monday. Imagine coming to my house and inviting my kids to Good News Club. Not even a week after the red revolution. They are very luckily I didn't yell at them in front of their kids, I didn't even set the roosters after them. They better not come again though.

Well I put Sein in my queue. The good news is that I can't even dream of what the 1st season is about because the titles are so mysterious. "Good news, bad news" The first episode....WTF? I have no idea what that one is. The bad news is that one 3 seasons are going to be released at least that's all Netflix lists. So when the hell am I ever going to see "Susan Dies" or what ever that episode is called. Maybe it's "The murder" or "The end" or "The envelopes" I have no idea. I"m all wound up today. Can you tell? I have to go to LIncoln to get the boys glasses fixed so I won't be around for a while this afternoon. I also have to get toothpaste and something else, though I can't remember what.

end season 4 disc 2 of the sopranos. Only two more to go. What am I going to watch after sopranos is over. How will I ever live to see the release of season five. I guess it will be Seinfeld that gets me through. I can't WAIT till the release.

Did you see Pride and Prejudice? He was Marc Darcy. Did you see Bridget Jones Diary? He was Marc Darcy. Did you see the Incredibly Stupid Garden? He wasn't Marc Darcy but he might as well have been because he was equally mysterious there, but not nearly so looming, I might add.

I saw about 1/2 hour more of "The Alligator People" yesterday. That is turning into one of my favorite movies, I think I might like it more than "The Bad Seed" watch it for yourself. Yesterday we found out what happens if you get treated with an OD of (scary tragic sound effect here) hydrocortisone, you start going all scaly, then they try to cure you with (even scarier tragic sound effect) 30 seconds of radiation but a mad man breaks in and whacks the doctor doing the treatment, knocking him out. OMB!!! The machine goes beserk after 31 seconds, then you get an OD of radiation and that can only mean one thing....you get morphed into an alligator. It's scary, I tell ya.

This blog is supposed to be I still know it jenn, isn't it? I'll change that when I remember to.

I have extremely big hair today. It's WAYYYYY to long. Be impressed though, I have not taken scissors to hair since I saw Bob and remember how long ago that was? I made an appointment today though I'm seeing him Monday. Where the hell are you Snoop?

Gun to your head - who would you do: Colin Firth or that other guy Hugh Grant, yeah that's his name. Did Colin have a face lift? I do him but only if he doesn't look younger than me.

It would be tragic to have ice cream everywhere. Why doesn't your hair just turn black naturally like the rest of us?

Bridge Report

Bridge was held at the home of Joyce with all the regulars in attendance. The cards were ok, I had several hands with over 15 points, but several dogs as well - Two hands with no cards higher than a 9!!! Regardless, I got 1 grand slam and a couple of little slams, Faye and I set Tracey and Lora three times. I won goose, Suzanne, High, Faye Low. Gram served ELEGANT pies, your choice of apple of pumpkin, most of us had little pieces of both. I had tons of coffee. A good time was had by all.

I hope we're not going to have to read your friggin privacy disclaimer every time you blog.....

this is a test for amy - amy email the blog and me to see if it works

Tyler might want that.

who would like a gently used copy of december's vf for christmas?

random stuff

i left work today at 1:30 because i could no longer decipher 5th grade writing.

i bought stuff for supper but i don't know if i'll make it or if i'm too lazy.

i'm going to take a nap now.

the vf run of handsome covers is over. december: leo decaprio.

I HATED Barton Fink. It was SOOOO boring I couldn't even finish it.

i run hot and cold on the coens. i liked o brother and intolerable cruelty was just ok. i refuse to watch ladykillers and couldn't sit through raising arizona. the big lebowski, was that them too? i didn't like it much. i guess i should see barton fink and miller's crossing.

Casting news

I can't wait for the new "Pirates" movie- why? Well, they just announced that the father of Johnny Depp's character will be played by no other then.....

Keith Richards.

It will be TOO funny.

A must see Cohen brothers film

If you love the Cohen brothers (I do) you NEED to see "Miller's Crossing" one of their least known but BEST films that they've made yet. It's really good- 5+ Chicken beaks

explaination of laziness

Amy,

Well, I do suffer from procrastination, so that's something that definitely comes under the laziness definition. I also need to be reading more, working harder to become a more effective teacher- I don't do enough of that....so I could utlize my talent in more vigerous ways.
Yes I love to help others, and I don't procrastinate in doing that- I love to make people happy- but it's doing the work that I need that's the hard part- hence, the laziness.
But then again, I guess it's human to feel that way.

BTW- I worked on starting the radio station when I was at UVA, so it was during my undergrad years- not during my grad degree.

Your test all worked!!!! Congratulations, you don't have to delete everything - that's just a pain.

Not much happened yesterday. I watched MNF that's about it. Tonight will be sopranos I think.

On DH - obviously the kid killed a younger or older sibling, why is it such a town secret? Did these people move into town after the other kid died or something? I can't decide if I like that show or not.

Friday we went to Bangor, got groceries, chicken food, etc. Then we had dinner at Bear Brew with Leigh and Jerry. It was fun. JK really liked the beer. Saturday I can't remember what we did, oh yeah, we drove around all day again. Sunday Jerry and Janyce came for brunch we had eggs florentine, coffee cake and pancakes (but we didn't eat the pancakes because we were too full). We also had fruit, coffee and tea. We then banked orlies house and then the guys played guitar all afternoon whilst janyce and I chatted. They left around 4. JK and I then watched the Pat's and I made pizza for dinner. Watched DH last night.

Musical frustration

REM played their first show since the American Presidential election in NEW YORK last night (November 4) - and showed how they felt by playing a host of politically-charged songs.

The band had openly backed Democrat John Kerry's bid for the presidency by appearing on last month's Vote For Change jaunt with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.

At Madison Square Garden, in a state where a majority had voted for Kerry, the band opened with 'It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)', the first time it has been played on the current tour, and normally a set closer when it is performed.

The band made minimal direct reference to the election, instead performing political songs from the new album 'Around The Sun' - 'Final Straw', 'The Outsiders', 'I Wanted To Be Wrong' - and oldies such as 'Welcome To The Occupation', 'Cuyahoga' and 'Begin The Begin'.

One onlooker told fansite Murmurs.com: "When they did 'Cuyahoga', he (frontman Michael Stipe) said: 'This is about Ohio and the audience gave a collective "boooooooo" - so you could tell the mood the band was in all night just from that alone."

The fan added: "He (Stipe) barely spoke throughout the whole show. At one point, he mentioned that he didn't know what to say so he'd let the music speak for itself."

The full set was:

'It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)'
'Begin The Begin'
'So Fast, So Numb'
'Welcome To The Occupation'
'Animal'
'Boy In The Well'
'Get Up'
'The Outsiders'
'Cuyahoga'
'High Speed Train'
'The One I Love'
'Sweetness Follows'
'Imitation Of Life'
'I Wanted To Be Wrong'
'Losing My Religion'
'Final Straw'
'Walk Unafraid'
'Life And How To Live It'

i'm not a registered democrat so i have no opinion. if i had an opinion it would be that dean should form his own party :pinko commies who would never get elected. i'd join.

What's Howie's next move?

TEXAS PECAN AND CHOCOLATE PIE
The pecan pie of Texas and the luscious chocolate of Mexico make excellent partners in this rich dessert.

click photo to enlarge

crust
1 cup all purpose flour
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter, chilled, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons (or more) ice water
filling
4 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) unsalted butter
1/2 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
3 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
cup light corn syrup
1 1/2 cups pecan pieces, lightly toasted

For crust: Combine first 4 ingredients in processor. Using on/off turns, process until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Drizzle 2 tablespoons ice water over mixture. Process just until moist clumps form, adding more water by teaspoonfuls if mixture is dry. Gather dough into ball. Flatten into disk. Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate 30 minutes. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Keep refrigerated.)
Preheat oven to 325°F. Roll out dough on floured surface to 13-inch round. Transfer to 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Trim overhang to 1 inch; fold under and crimp decoratively. Set aside.
for filling: Stir chocolate and butter in heavy small saucepan over low heat until melted. Cool slightly. Whisk brown sugar, eggs and salt in large bowl to blend. Whisk in corn syrup and chocolate mixture. Sprinkle pecans over unbaked crust. Pour filling over pecans. Bake until crust is golden and filling is puffed, about 55 minutes.
Cool pie completely on rack.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.

*i just used my standard pie crust which is now made 1/2 butter 1/2 shortening instead of all shortening.

...and that will be my mantra to anyone that says ANYTHING to me about it. Go Join the war. Your country needs you.

Now...by popular demand

Burlington Bridge Report
Bridge was held at SUzanne's and hosted by me. The treat was bridge mix (from Pioneer place) and popcorn. The treat was Texas Chocolate Pecan Pie - it was too sweet for my taste. The cards were very good for me. High went to Faye, Low and Goose to Helen. A good time was had by all.

Ok I promise I won't rant much either, but I will say this - just one time. If there are 60 million Bushlovers out there, I call on you to show your patriotic spirit and sign up for the war. You can't let those young guys and gals already over there go bankrupt and die on extended duty while you watch nascar and go to church now can you? WWJD?

Good News for Reds under 50:

You'll get to work until you're 70 before you have to wonder how you're going to supplement your social security!!!

Ranting and Raving- don't worry- this is the only time I'll be this negative.....

I begin with some Green Day lyrics that literally drip with irony after yesterday:

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America......
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia....
Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.
- Green Day

What NOT to do on a night when America sinks to a new low:

1. Watch a Noam Chomsky DVD
2. Be in the middle of teaching "1984"
3. Be in a dorm of kids that are running around shouting "Bush Rules! All right BUSH!"
4. Think

I'm still devastated. Shaken. Disillusioned. I guess I can say that I see clearly now....and it's a more terrifying vision of my country that I see today. More frightening. I dedicated my life to try to fight against ignorance. To make a difference- and help others to develop the strength and confidence to make a stand. And my country turns around and shows the world this.

While I appreciate Dean's comments, at this point, I can't help but seriously question democracy and its validity as a government. There are simply too many weak-minded ignorant people in this country to make a democracy worthwhile and viable. We don't deserve democracy. We don't deserve freedom. That's what we told the Elitist Republican party yesterday. As a country we lined up at the polls and reaffirmed the Republican party's mantra:

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

And we've given Big Brother the confirmation and permission to destroy our rights, slaughter our people, and degrade our intelligence.

I have never been this frustrated, angry, and sickened by the depths of depravity that Americans can sink to.

I will continue to fight the good fight.

But I've lost a lot of faith and a lot of love that I used to have for my country, and I don't know if I'll ever get it back.

Stephen King calls Green Day's American Idiot "a great successful album" in the new October 29th issue of Entertainment Weekly Magazine.

this morning i watched barak obama on 4 different shows. i love him.

last night i had this dream that was so odd. i don't really remember the beginning of it, but for some reason i had to give this girl a ride in my parents' crown victoria. i was in portland. the girl was asian. i had my purse in the back seat. for some reason she found another one of my purses on the ground outside the car by the backseat. i told her just to throw it in with the other one. so she reached down to put it down on the seat and i saw that she was actually going to steal both purses and run, while i was sitting in the driver's seat with the car running. so i stepped on the gas, and the door shut and her hand got shut in the door. i was going slow so that she could pull her hand out but she was threatening me and i don't know what else but i slammed on teh gas and started going REALLY fast and i think i pulled her hand off. stress dream? ya think???

update

bush 56% kerry 42.5% nader .4% FL, IN, KY, NH, SC starting to report

Bad news.

Bush won the election in the ESS 2nd grade and also the 4th grade. I don't take it as a representative sample however. They're pretty conservative here in the middle of Penobscot county.

Other election news. Approximately 126 voters (out of 310 registered voters) in Burlington have voted.

Al Franken is telling Republicans that can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry, they should vote for Michael Bednarik.

You could take him casseroles and clean out all your extra unmatching dishes and silverware to give him.

I'm feeling like I"m in a news black hole. I called the Bangor Kerry office to see what I could do to help today. They're going to calll me back.

You can always reinstall it, or on the yahoo messenger home page you can use the mini version. I wonder if leigh is working late today?

Yeah, but you'll go to sleep at nine.

I officially invite each and every one of you to join our yahoo chat this evening, as long as we're there. Email me if you'd like an invite.

Of course I'll bail you out. Make sure you take my # with you since you only get one call.

I would go in and explain that your sign was stolen and ask for one of theirs. They'll give it to you I'm sure.

A-Lo you'll be at the polling place 3 hours at least. I hope you can get out of work early. There isn't supposed to be any campaigning withing 100 feet of a polling place you know. All those candidates better be on the sidewalk somewhere.

There's no news. I wish I had CNN. I can't take it.

I voted last Tuesday morning in Suzanne's living room. I was drinking a cup of coffee and stopped watching Imus long enough to complete my ballot. I voted on each one of the issues for a change (I don't vote if I don't feel I know about things like bond issues, etc.)

Blog poll:

Describe your voting experience today.

I'll provide updates as much as possible. Bush just voted. All the networks gave him 5 minutes of coverage.

well I've already had two so I think it's a pretty good guess I'll have at least 4 today. Snoop are you job shadowing? Is anyone going to be at Michaud headquarters tonight or are they going to do a report from under the cell phone tower like last time. I'll go up if they need me. I couldn't fix your blog capablility and had the same problem from mine so I'll do some investigating today. Feel free to email me and I'll blog for you.

congrats audrey!!!

Life without Jen

Day 1

This life without Jen segment brought to you by Maxwell HOuse, good to the last drop.

LIfe without Jen sucked today. How dare she leave me to go back to work during an election week. I had no one to help me plan my menu for the day. I had no one to rant to. I had no one to tell me not to drink that 4th cup of coffee. She better give me weekly meal suggestions over the weekend. What will I do tomorrow and wednesday while i'm reading daily tracking poll and listening to talk radio??? Who will I bitch to???

in a perfect world i could have one egg (over medium), one piece of bacon, one piece of sausage, one pancake, a bite of homefries with onion and a bite of corned beef hash for breakfast. and not gain weight.

what i usually eat if i eat breakfast is a bowl of go lean crunch cereal or a slim fast or a dd bagel.

work was work. damn the man!

It may be a conspiracy but I already voted so it won't affect me.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE bacon, but hardly ever eat it. I don't really like sausage. I also love bran muffins.

My favorite breakfast is poached eggs with corned beef hash and maybe toast if I'm in the mood, and coffee. Lately I've been frequently having oatmeal for breakfast. I like cereal a lot though, and have to restrain myself in that Isle. I currently have 9 boxes of cereal on my shelves. Ugh. I usually eat cereal for snack or lunch though.

Figures. It's the dirty tricks election.

I got no email from you. I got no error either. Shenanigans have started already in Florida. It's ridiculous really. Apparently Ms. LePore has decided to amend the U.S. Constitution all on her own. Whatever.

I'm learning all about fire detection systems.

Hope you have a good day at work today Jen!!!!

oh maybe I can receive but not send, someone please send me something.

don't email me anything urgent. My server is down.

The Italian Job

This movie sucks so bad you can't even believe it. Basically they had 20 minutes worth of story but dragged it out for 2 hours. They filled the time with footage of 3 mini coopers racing around. It would have made a very good Mini Cooper commercial but that's it.

Not much happeded yesterday. I made Orlie a custard pie for his birthday and we played bridge with the 'rents Saturday night (Girls won). Grampa K visited Saturday also. Sunday was tv day. Watched the political shows in the a.m. and football in the p.m. How 'bout those Eagles Tyler!!!! What a great football day for PA. Anyway sorry the Pat's lost but I guess it's better to lose one game than 12. Went trick-or-treating with Drac and the Spider countess and that was fun. I'm so nervous that I'm as I'm sleeping I'm dreamin g of electoral college scenarios. Last night I dreamt we won Nevada and Arizona and I was thinking..."all we need now is Iowa" how pathetic.

Leigh, how do you get the day off? Is this the day you planned? Do you have a sox hat?
