springfield fair highlight event:

Tire Burn

(directly from the SF program)

It sounds like a medical emergency, but it's not. On Thursday, Sept. 2, the Springfield Fair hosts its first-eer opportunity for fairgoers to go 120 mph while standing still.

The tire burn is an event where a vehicle is chained down, front and back, only a steel plate. The driver then "stands on it" for as long as he or she dares--or wishes to. Tires may explode, or they may not. Regardless, the white smoke and endearing scent of burning rubber billows up into the sky. Winners are decided by the level of response from the audience, although personal victory may be claimed by:

-Hitting 120 mph on your odometer (140 if you own a ford focus...)
-having your smoke plume picked up by CNN satellite
-blowing a tire with a gunshot-like explosion
-wrecking your transmission (a free meal at the Springfield Fair takeout will be given to anyone driving who is in mourning because of a wrecked transmission)
-cming to the even with EXTRA tires to burn!
The event is beign run by Hogan Tire Co.
