Obviously, the reason God created Thanksgiving is so you could spend the next three days watching football, nonstop and not have to prepare any meals due to all the leftovers.

it's cause deli turkey has no flavor!

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

It's odd--I really prefer mayo on my thanksgiving sandwich, but I MUCH prefer miracle whip light on deli turkey sandwiches...go figure.

Well, I had a lovely time with my peeps. Thanks to The Wallet for the LOVELY suggestion of having Thanksgiving on Saturday--we had turkey and cornbread stuffing and mashed taters (Wallet Special), roasted root veggies, sauteed haricots verts, fresh bread (ThanksRK), and punkin pie. Oh, and cranberry sauce from Trader Joe's, which, in hindsight, RK should have bought some. IT IS GOOD.

So I've been enjoying Thanksgiving sandwiches this week, thinking of Alisa, missing my family, and glad I had some visitors.

I'm tell in you what, if it's every a thanksgiving with "just the girls" we'd do that I bet.

You know, there is a great big part of me that would really love to have toast and popcorn for thanksgiving.

They're Here!

So, what do I serve guests who have been traveling 16 hours to see me?

Cereal...any flavor they can find in the pantry.

I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!

Jen,
It's not thanksgiving without TOO MUCH dessert. Besides you know you have to have one of every kind of pie or people will talk.

5 pies and steamed pudding for 20 people? that's like, 50 pieces of dessert.

just wanted to point that out.

Note to those bringing food:

For the purpose of determining quantities - there are 20-22 people coming.

TG menu

Here it is - tell me what I forgot!

Turkey
something yet to be determined for the vegetarians (maybe a crab cake? I dont know yet)
Roasted Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes-rk
Squash-doris
peas-doris
fruit cake-gram
steamed pudding-gram
pumpkin pie-gram
apple pie-gram
mince pie-gram
rolls-suzanne

It does seem like there needs to be more, what have I completely forgotten?

Heh, heh, heh...

she said "wee."

*snicker*

There is NO way I'm watching "The Shat" tonight, and by the way, ABC, we ALL know what word "SHAT" is past tense of--you're not cool.

As for football, I believe I told RK I'd do well for the first half of the season, then suck it up the rest of the time. I see that sucking has commenced.

I really want Emmett to win. It's hard not to have a crush on him.

Dear GG

Let me publicly thank you for the most wonderful and delicious fruit cake I have every wrapped my tongue around.
OMB is it good....and if you aren't jealous you should be.

Of course Mario will win DWTS, but I really wish Emmett would. He's so cute. Mario is a much better dancer though, and Joey just bugs me for some reason. I wonder who Mad picks?

For blog's sake don't forget to vote!

Ummm...gross. i said "to my arms and legs"....hello? I've used clinique everyday moisture on my face every day since i was 18....I think everyone knows that.....duh........ ;-)

Jen, do you use baby oil on your face?!?!??!?!

Monday, November 06, 2006

So, today I put plastic on my bedroom window. It pillowed WAY out...these windows are crap. Here's hoping I don't get an ear infection from the cold wind blowing in my ear all weekend.

Deck the Halls (2006)

Great googly moogly how many times are they going to make this exact same movie!!??!!??!!??

I STILL KNOW IT JENN???

I just noticed there is no title on our blog.

Oh, and the baby oil started last week and the humidifyer started this weekend.

My winter moisture routine consists of running two humidifyers in my small apt and applying baby oil to my arms and legs immediately after getting out of the shower. Once a week i do a salt scrub to get all the dead skin off from the days when I forget to apply baby oil. I also try to drink a lot of water, which doesn't usually work.

Blog poll:

Have you got your winter moisturizer yet? Have you started using it, how often do you use it, and what kind is it?

The cat came back....again

Gone for a week this time. I wonder where her vacation home is. Wherever it is it's a kitty Ritz Carlton. She comes back fatter and fatter AND with extremely bad manners. She's decided she can get on the counter whenever she likes.

Blog Review: Kilby picture party

Well, I don't know if I can tell you all the fun we had but I'll try.

The morning started out with Bagels, muffins, cinnamon rolls and juice being delivered by Snoop. Our first visitor was Edith. She stayed almost and hour and was a lot of fun to visit with. She told us about staying here at this house with Mrs. Preble.

Well Edith really kicked off the party. I can not tell you the order of the rest of the guests but I will try to list most of them. Beth, John, Kim, Megan and kids; Dean and Helen; Gram and Everett; Aunt Helen; Mom and Dad; Roy, Jennie, Karen and Liza; Theresa and Stan; Aunt Lil; Ralph and Ellen; Dorothy; Jelly and Jam; the Wonders; Patty and Del; Doris and Roland; Cheryl; Penny and Flora. If I didn't list you it's because you didn't sign the book so don't blame me - but call me so I can write you down!

Anyway Leigh made Chile and Minestrone, Suzanne and Orlie made rolls and meatballs, gram made cake. There was plenty of food, but not TOO TOO Much. You did very well Leigh. I only had about 2 cups of minestrone and 2 cups of chili left.

It was great to visit with everyone, the food was wonderful and we got some REALLY nice photos. I got some frames yesterday and have started putting some of them up. Now I need to find a couple of decent albums.

AVVGTWHBA, If you weren't here, I missed you!

football

I spent most of the day watching football yesterday, and though the Pat's/Colt's game WAS very good, I was pretty disappointed. Ah well, there's always the playoffs.

Dear Jen

Why do you go to things like that? You know you're going to hate it? Don't give in to peer pressure!

I now get NFL Net. What a waste, I'd rather have BBCAmerica.

I'm gonna have to do a lot better this week.....

On Fried Rice

I think it's teriyaki and hoisin sauce that make fried rice brown, not meat.

When I was a kid I was always partial to Grammy Brown's divinity fudge. But I did like Harriet's popcorn balls. But I do have a special fondness for the PB cups that were individually wrapped in waxed paper.......

I hate three musketeers too. I'm pretty disappointed in the candy this year. There isn't anything exciting in it. You know what I look forward to the most? Those multi colored tootsie rolls. I love the white ones.

Blog poll: what is your favorite halloween treat.

You know what I think Mad liked the best? Edith's homemade popcorn.

I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!

I'm NOT happy with my green salt and salt shakers. For one thing, I wanted salt and pepper. That's how they were described. However, they are not salt and pepper, and it was very clear in the photo had I only paid attention. More annoying though is that they don't really match. One is about 3 shades lighter than the other. So, I'm in the market for a medium green or a turquoise pepper shaker. I haven't left feedback for the person that sold it yet. I'm waiting till I'm over it.

Wow...busy.

Last night I had zero kids. And I honestly don't know why--a TON of kids live in just my building.....not to mention the whole complex. I guess they hit the 100 or so townhouses across the road instead. Ah, well, more 3 Musketeers for my office mates (I bought stuff I hate).

Now that I have 10 minutes....

I will report on my weekend.

Amy showed up Thursday and watched survivor with us. Friday morning Orlie made chocolate doughnuts which were awesome, we also made molasses.

Friday night Leigh and I met at Wing Wah for dinner and a cocktail. We shared a pupu for 1, crab rangoons and veggie fried rice (which we are quite sure is veggie in name only because it is the same brown smoky flavor as all the other fried rice and that comes from meat doesn't it?)....anyway we tried to drink a singapore sling, but it wasn't made correctly and was more of a singapore slime to me, it was way too sweet and has something disgusting in it that made it taste like cough syrup, and Robutussin too, not anything good.

So after that we went to shooter's. I had a raspberry vodka tonic and she had a bud select. We were hoping it was going to be a good karaoke night, but alas, it sucked. It was so bad and loud we couldn't take it, so we decided we'd play a game of pool.

So, let me tell you, Leigh and I are pretty pathetic pool players in general. Sure we make a couple of great shots and have a run here or there, but generally we suck. It takes us an average of 42 minutes to finish a game (and that's only because I always get the 8 ball in eventually, when I'm not supposed to).

We played three of 4 games (she won, can you guess why?) Then these two guys bought us a drink so we would play a game with them. Thinking it impolite to deny a drink and not play a game, i saw no harm in it and agreed. Well these two gentlemen were nice enough, friendly enough but number 1. I'm not in the market and number 2. Leigh is not in the market for anyone over 35. Still we had fun, relative to listening to the karaoke, but, thankfully we were not lured to "deer camp" despite their efforts. Hooray for us! You've got to admit leigh, they WERE the best prospects in the room....
...hey, come to think of it, so were we!!!

Oh the funniest thing happened on our way out but I will spare the blog the details...but it involves how darn good leigh looks and "how the hell did I miss HER" all these years.....

Saturday my father in law came. We had meatloaf baked taters and apple pie. We had a nice visit.

After that I went to Gerry's party for a while, caught up with a few people and then went home to cook. I made cupcakes for the fire dept who were coming over Sunday. The kids helped decorate. They came out really well.

After that I took a nap, then Amy came and got me and we went back to the party. We "shot the shit" (I think that's how you'd put it) with Jake, Cheryl, Joel, Gary Cindy, etc....had a bowl of spaghetti a shot of pucker and a cocktail of some type. Came home, watched a little SNL, went to bed.

Sunday Amy graciously went to Lincoln to run all my errands while I got ready for the party. The fire dept and all the kids came over for family fun day. 17 kids. SEVENTEEN. It was SO much fun, and I can't even believe I'm saying that. I loved having them all here. The kids played really well together. We had lasagne, beef stew, chicken casserole, chop suey, garlic bread, beverages, dessert. AVGTWHBA, the kids painted pumpkins. They were so cute, and there is only one spot of purple paint on my new furniture! (That's today's job I guess).

AFter that Amy came down and we watched football the rest of the day and all night. (The perfect ending to a busy weekend).

MOnday I hosted bridge, the cards sucked but the company didn't. I don't remember who won prizes.

for the record...

I can't tell you how much I DETEST daylight savings time!

Halloween was a rocking success last night! It's the first time in history (well, since I started taking my kids) that I was given candy (3 PLACES EVEN)!!! Everyone was giving out candy, no scrooges and there were lots of kids running around B-Town. We went EVERYWHERE!!! I'm not kidding either. We went to every house in Burlington. We also visited Georgia and went to McD's. AVGTWHBA. I think we had 6 trick or treaters.
