I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!

speaking of mr. tambourine man, did you all know william shatner has a new album coming out? and hey snoop, guess what, he covers pulp's 'common people'. i heard it last night on aol. it's HYSTERICAL.

you know, tina fey, head writer of snl, is supposed to be so great and so witty and so wonderful but this movie just sucked. i mean, it was full of every stereotype, cliche, and stupid prank that is in every teen movie. i was hoping it would be clever, but i should have known it wouldn't be, as i think tina fey's biggest problem is that she is too proud of her own jokes anyway.

so now that i've gotten that out of my system. we also watched the first two episodes of curb your enthusiasm last night and that was MUCH more funny than mean girls. we liked it a lot. we'll be watching more between tonight and tomorrow.

because tomorrow tyler has off! apparently in private schools they have these things called 'headmaster's holiday' where the headmaster just decides everyone can have the day off tomorrow. so we're gonna watch movies i'd magine.

tonight i'm making fabulous dinner. chicken florentine with salad. i'm trying to decide between rice and pasta with olive oil and garlic. the pasta would be more authentic, but i am in a basmatti rice phase. though i'm serving rice friday with curry chicken. so i guess i'm going for the garlic pasta.

i got this box set called "Duran Duran: the singles 81-85". and it's cool because each single is in a sleeve that looked like the 45 sleeve. but the problem is that each disc only has what the 45 had on it...so there are 13 discs. i'm obviously going to have to consolidate. right now i'm listening to 'planet earth'. you're all jealous.

blog movie review: mean girls

Don't bother.

i'm pissed because i finally bought moisture sox for my feet and shea butter for my rough heels and left it all in maine. dammit.

i feel guilty about eating at wendy's now because i found out they give all this money to right to life groups; ya just can't win, can ya?

and can i say it's WONDERFUL to have snoop back? thanks for finally rejoining the frey after the 2thosewhocare debacle.

i would just call dhs, get a person, and talk to them.

i wrote to the board and asked the process. take them to great lost bear...but remember it's just a sandwich shop. so is silly's. but both are GOOD. also, cap'n newicks is great for cheap seafood.

Red House Painters - Have You Forgotten?

What's Your Theme Song?
brought to you by Quizilla

Blog recipe site of the day...

http://www.dianaskitchen.com/index.htm

real recipes for real people. I'm making her lazy pot roast as we speak.

i didn't order it. i bookmarked the site on your puter. i don't remember the rainbow model. but i FOUND the site, that's something.

wtf you talkin 'bout? i told you i want the living room to be the sage green that is the next-to-lightest color in the wallpaper that is there now! just take a square of it to home depot and they can match it exactly!

OK the bad news, because the good news won't make any sense without it. I blew a gasket in my washing machine coin trap. Luckily I caught it before water went everywhere. Thank god I was actually home when it happened. Anyway I went online to look for the part and it is $80. Luckily Dunnett's can get it for $14, so that's the good news part. More bad news is it will take 2 - 3 days so the laundry pile is going to be outrageous.

Well bad news and good news. Which do you want first?

Well JK took our lunch break and watched 2 sopranos. That's the problem with the sopranos, you can't get enough. When you start watching them you get mad that you only have 1 dvd and not the entire season. I might have to upgrade my netflix just so I can have 5 sopranos dvd's at once. Also since I have three movies here right now it's unlikely that i'll get another one tomorrow so we have to pace ourselves. LUckily tonight there is football.

I say video store. Then you'll be carrying on the family tradition. Paper delivery would require you to get up at 4 or something.

I wouldn't bother to try to remember the names, if I saw something I thought was potentially cool I would call LTL or Leigh and have them confirm.

I was also impressed with a commercial yesterday - the Nike "Michael Vick Experience" commercial. JK and I thought it was VERY good.

i have no shoe news.

yesterday on my flight home i sat next to a mom and her 9 month old baby. the baby loved me. she grabbed me and petted me and put her fingers in my mouth and wanted me to hold her. and she and i read vanity fair together. then the taxi guy was foreign and didn't know where wolcott street was so i had to tell him and he had the LONGEST fingernails i've ever seen on a guy. i was mildly sick. went to the halloween store--don't tell beav i told him i promised to wait for him-- and saw a former student there. there was lots of cool stuff. i got a nyt to read in ct this week. at hannaford....not the halloween store. came back to amy's and this guy who's running for state legislature was going door to door scouting the neighborhood...amy was nice enough to call me out because he was cute. and good news, he's a dem. went to friendly's for suppah, and watched the funniest show ever...wife swap.

I also need to say that I thought Lawnmower man was pretty good for a $12 budget. I laughed.

In other movie news JK and I watched "For a few Dollars More" Friday night which was Excellent. I love Spaghetti westerns.

In entertainment news, JK and I watched Saturday Night Live with Justin Timberlake last night, despite our reservations and almost instant initial reaction to turn it off. Justing was quite funny. I laughed my ass off at a couple of his skits. Just goes to show you doesn't it.

I've been picking songs for my protest performance. I'm thinking "this land is your land", "blowin in the wind", the "we don't need no education" song and "burnin down the house". Any other suggestions will be considered.

Leigh did not mention that we both thought everyone at dollar baby was standing around either a.)waiting for someone to recognize them or b.)waiting for SK to walk in. Leigh was the second most glamorous person there, second only to Leslie Sands. The pink poncho and smart glasses really worked for her I thought.

Well, Leigh wrapped up last night pretty well didn't she. Friday night M had practice so I went to Howland. My car broke down on the bridge on the way home. Of course there was a soccer game and practice so all the world needed to cross the bridge. Luckily I didn't hold up traffic very long because a very nice person that most of you probably know towed me off. His last name is Fisher. He's probably 6 or 7 years younger than I, but he recognized me and called me dear every other word. M and I waited 15 minutes or so but then the car magically started so we waited a minute and drove off....only to stall out again at Dudley's. I called JK to come rescue us, pushed the car out of the middle of the intersection and waited as long as it takes to drive from Btown to W Enfield. I Left my car at P n C over night because it wouldn't run. Ralphie and Orlie fixed it for me on Saturday - alternator of course. Saturday Suzy and I went to East Mill for the soccer game in which the Howlers (maddy calls them) lost 4-1. I should note that they played very well considering they didn't have most of their 6th graders (who had another game) and several other kids weren't there as well. Maddy played most of the second half (wing) and ran her little butt off going after the ball. Suzy and I had the best doughnuts ever at the soccer game.

we had thought about it but apparently it's so busy that you have to get timed tickets to get in and i think you have to be in DC to get them at 8 am or something....that's not gonna happen.

this morning we all got up, got pretty, and went to work with todd. i made mila go because i didn't dare to drive their brand new shiney car in an unfamiliar area that is notorious for crazy drivers. i have to say we all looked good. mila was wearing a very pretty new silk shirt she bought for her birthday thing on saturday (which was last night), todd was wearing a suit (because he had a meeting with a corporal or general or something), and i was wearing black pants and a purple top that matched my purse. we got there and i decided to call mila and i 'todd's girls' because we were just following him around, not talking to anyone unless he introduced us. then i met with candy, who is head of the tech writing dept. a very nice woman who says she may have a position for me in the next few months. she LOVED my resume and she and i chatted off the record about all kinds of things. she asked me how much notice i would need to move down. she discussed starting salaries for me. let's put it this way if she did offer me a job i wouldn't be able to refuse it. it's not a TON of money, but a lot more than what i'm making now. it would basically just be proofreading. kinda boring, yes.....but i could get braces. that's the trade off.

mila and i then went to lunch at SBC cafe. i had a turkey foccacia sandwich and mila had a roasted veggie panini. yum. then we came back here, watched a few episodes of 'the vicar of dibley' and now she's sleeping on my bed. where will i nap?

live from DC

i cannot get enough water when i'm down here. maybe because it's been 90 for the last two days. ugh. not condusive to me looking professional, lemme tell ya.

so i got here yesterday afternoon and mila picked me up. we went to tyson's corner mall and went to bloomies. it was clinique bonus time but i DID NOT get a free gift--i simply did not need any more product. i know what you're thinking; is that even possible? but yes, it is in fact very possible. we did however find some chocolates that we needed.

then we picked up todd from work and went into DC right near the nat'l cathedral to mila's uncle's house. when we got there, i saw this pink birthday hat attached to a person dart across the lawn. mila said "what was that?" and her aunt said "must have been a dog or something"...went out to the back lawn...SURPRISE! mila was VERY surprised at her party. lots of people, lots of wine and cake. then after a few hours we walked to this mexican place...cactus cantina or something like that. i had a frozen strawberry margarita and spinach enchiladas. one of the gals next to me, lucy, had steak fajitas. i tried her meat; it was delish. we all had fun and acted silly. lucy went to get the waitstaff to sing 'happy birthday' to mila but coincidentally she ran into a lively bunch of women she knows so they came over and we rocked the house with the b-day song. mila was a little embarassed as you can imagine but she thought it was fun.

Ahh, see, you do a TINY bit of reading and you get a lot more info. According to the Lincoln Snooze this closing isn't such a surprise after all. The superintendent has a report saying the roof isn't safe and had asked for people to be removed from the area. The school board voted on Tuesday to fix the roof though they don't have the money or a price or a timetable to do it. I'm gonna guess that just wasn't a good enough plan for the state fire marshall.

Well I suppose I have to take issue with a couple of points in the article just for the record. Mind you I could care less if the high school stays open, I just want my kids to get a decent education. I don't know who that reporter is but she certainly didn't do any research she just printed what people said. So I would just like to say that something WAS done about the roof after the 1998 report. The school received around $1 Million to fix that roof and the board decided not to do that and instead to buy portable classrooms (against the states wishes, I believe). At the time they thought this would ensure them to be put at the top of the funding list (which it did).

I had to actually go buy a paper because the article is in the ether on the internet somewhere. Did you have a camera crew there last night?

I use Mozilla for my browser so I don't get popups anymore. I suggest you advise your tech person to install it for you all. Props to RR.

I think basically the entire building is falling down around their ears. I think the school has a rough battle ahead since their own architect said the building was unsalvageable a couple of years ago. I can't find the article.

Speaking of closing high schools, PVHS is closed today for unknown reasons. Something to do with safety codes I think. I wonder if it's in the BDN today. I wonder if any crack news teams are investigating?

I'll have to call you so you can sing ripple for me. I did find the lyrics and chords though, so I might be able to figure out how to play it if I knew the tune. I don't know the little people song either so I'll have to call Amy or Ashley and have them sing that one for em.

what is DDH? And which song is Ripple? I've learned to play "Sweet Child of Mine" on the guitar!!!

I find it interesting that all these kids can spell Isaiah but not aunt.

"To Isaiah's Annt. Thek you for the cras. From Joey." picture of red house with yellow roof, statue of liberty and American Flag.

Amy bought 24 packs of crayola's for Isaiah's entire class. I finally convinced him to take them to school. He only agreed if Maddy would actually take them. I think he distributed them though. Amy I have thank you's from the entire class. I will post some of the highlights.

"Dear Isaiah's ant thak you for the crayongs. Thar very nice and sharp I like them alot. From Karl."

Let me know if you need translations. I'll scan the best few and post them.

JK and I had pasta and sauce for dinner. He had fire training last night. I visited suzanne for a minute and folded laundry afterwards at home. I, too, watched survivor. I'm was glad to see Dolly get voted off. I always like it when someone that thinks they are in control gets voted out. It's the first rule of survivor, never let everyone think you're in charge. What I did not understand was why they let anyone squeamish try to execute the chicken. They should have had Dolly do that, since she's used to slaughtering sheep. After that I went to bed, but I thought Russell Crowe was singing on PBS. Does he have a band?

Oh, yeah, I did read the New Yorker last night and I've decided I'm going to see EVERY Jude Law movie that is out this fall, so leigh, let me know when they're at the cheap place and we'll go on wednesdays after yoga! I'm leaving it up to you to notify me and I'll treat.

Translation: Dear Auntie Amy Thank you for the crayons. I have past them out from Isaiah. Posted by Hello

Blog Poll:

Name your favorite Dead tune.

Thursday, September 23, 2004

Well, it's the truth. I mean, I like them when I hear them, but I can't identify them from a list. I have no idea. I don't own ONE GD product either.

I - "I think Mr. LUpo put on a bowtie", right, Maddy
M - "i wonder why cats run into the woods to die, that's what Mr. Lupo did, right Mom?", "that's probably what our cats will do"
I - "He can't sit up strait! - See! - Look at him"
I - Look at his tail!
I - Mr. Lupo got in there because he wanted to be famous, right, Maddy?
M - Isaiah, Mr. Lupo is dead.
I - which Mr. Lupp
M - Flora's
I - Oh, I mean our's upstairs.
and so it goes...

You know, I don't know the names of ANY Gratefull Dead songs. Isn't that ridiculous.

In celebration of maddy's concussion she gets to lie in bed and watch "Cats". I'm telling you watching Cats with the kids is a riot, they laugh at everything and analyze all the cats, what they look like, who's cat they look like, how they dance...etc.

My daughter came home with a gigantic eg on her forehead. It's very purple and quite hideous. I wish I had a steak for it, but she's had to settle for an ice pack. This is her second head injury this week, which may explain why she repeats everything you say to her. "Maddy get your backpack.", "My backpack?" etc.

How about Slim Horton?

No one rants like you Leigh! And yes, LTL, if it isn't posted in writing on the internet you're taking the chance that I will forget. And I usually do forget things unless they actually involve me in some way. I say go to coffee express. As I can't stand dnd coffee unless it's an emergency. What bangor needs is a TH.

hmm this didn't publish before, I wonder why???

coffee break!

I almost forgot to have afternoon coffee.

we wondered where you were yesterday LTL, you really should have told us before you left. Anyway, I guess I could just throw some olives on my pizza then it would be greek wouldn't it.

I got myself a little mint plant so I can have mojitos on a whim! That's what I'll be enjoying during survivor tonight. I also got some club soda so they can be real mojitos, thank blog.

Well tomorrow's dish is going to be pesto, ricotta pizza, you're so jealous. I'll have to have something greek soon though, I'll be thinking on that.

r

I'm trying to eat more mediterranean today so I had fruit for breakfast and I'm either going to have ratatouille or chicken biryani for dinner, or maybe just pasta with pesto who knows. I kind of blew the things by having thai noodle soup for lunch. Oh well. In the spirit of Italia I present you with your food/recipe site of the day...

It's true, people around you would probably think that way, but people that work at a bank would think it is ambitious and smart. It all depends on your surroundings.

Powell says U.S. isn't planning to attack Iran's nuclear facilities
Maggie Farley, Los Angeles Times
September 23, 2004 IRAN0923

UNITED NATIONS -- Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday that there are no plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, despite the Pentagon's recent agreement to sell Israel 500 bunker-buster bombs capable of disabling underground weapons plants.

But speaking to reporters, Powell pointedly added, "Every nation has all options available to it" to stop Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons.

Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. The Bush administration contends it is secretly trying to build nuclear weapons. On Tuesday, Iran announced it would continue preparations to enrich uranium in defiance of the U.N. nuclear agency's demand that it stop. Enriched uranium can be used to make fuel for nuclear power plants or weapons.

"We're talking about diplomacy and political efforts to stop this movement on the part of the Iranians toward a nuclear weapon, and we're not talking about strikes," Powell said. "Every option, though, of course remains on the table."

Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said Wednesday that the issue should be sent to U.N. Security Council "to put an end to this nightmare."

"We know that the Europeans are trying now to engage with the Iranians, but we know that the Iranians will never abandon their plans to develop nuclear weapons. They're only trying to hide it," he said.

Shalom sidestepped the question of whether Israel -- which itself is presumed to have nuclear weapons -- would take military action against Iran if it continued to resist U.N. directives on its nuclear program. In 1981, Israel bombed Iraq's Osirak nuclear reactor.

Pentagon officials confirmed Tuesday that the United States would soon approve the sale to Israel of a package of air-launched munitions worth as much as $319 million. It includes 500 BLU-109 bunker-buster bombs that can burrow more than 10 feet into reinforced concrete and take out underground weapons silos and command facilities.

You need to subscribe to the NYT or the WSJ or something. Probably WSJ, then people would think you are really ambitious and smart.

for your oogling enjoyment

jude law is on the cover of october vanity fair.

I don't particularly care for Mr. Islam myself but I respect his rights to be a muslim. I think there was one song of his that I liked but I can't remember what it is. It's not Peace Train though.

I really have so much nothing to report. I didn't cook dinner last night. I went to bed at 8:30 and only because i forced myself to stay up later than the kids. Tonight is yoga thank blog.

Why don't you like Cat Stevens? Just because he was on a plane?

Friggin dem's are so stupid some times, investigate this would yah? I'd wagah Karl Rove is behind this whole memogate. You see, CBS has been asking way too many questions lately and Rather just hasn't been towing the Bush line so I'll bet Rove got the memo going and the first thing he does is blame Kerry. Kerry should have blamed Rove at the first HINT this memo was fake. Didn't I read that Rove did something very similar during a Texas senate race? Maybe I'm wrong.

Race for President Falls Back into Dead Heat,
New Zogby Interactive
Presidential Battleground Poll Reveals

The race for President of the United States continued to tighten during the last two weeks, as President Bush continued his long, hard slog back toward parity with Democratic challenger John Kerry, throwing the race into a virtual dead heat, the latest package of polls by Zogby Interactive shows.

Neither Mr. Bush nor Mr. Kerry holds a clear-cut lead in enough states to win the Electoral College votes required to capture the White House. Based on individual polls conducted simultaneously Sept. 13-17 in 20 battleground states. Here’s the latest chart:

Two states remain too close to call: Florida (no surprise) and Arkansas, home to former President Clinton, who has recently generated sympathy with his successful quadruple bypass surgery and headlines with his emergence as a chief advisor to Mr. Kerry, fielding strategic questions from his New York City hospital bed. Arkansas, with 6 electoral votes, had been in the pocket of Mr. Bush, who won it four years ago. By itself, it is unimportant in the presidential election. However, paired with one other small state, it could make all the difference in the world. Because the race is so close this year, every little state matters.

Undecided Florida and Arkansas together comprise 33 votes.

Missouri and Nevada have moved from the undecided category into the Bush camp since the last polling, done two weeks ago. Colorado also moved, albeit slightly, from the Kerry column to the Bush column, where it resided in the election four years ago.

The Electoral College count compiled in this report assumes that the 30 states not included in the package of surveys would go to the candidate of the party they supported in the 2000 election. Under this assumption, Mr. Bush begins with a base of 142 votes, compared to 172 for Mr. Kerry. In the 20 states in the polls, 224 Electoral College votes are up for grabs. Each state poll contains its own margin of error, as stated at the bottom of each state chart.

The winner of the election must amass 270 votes.

The last two weeks on the campaign trail have had the candidates hurtling forward while looking in the rearview mirror, as partisans continued to debate what the candidates did – or did not do – 30 years ago during the Vietnam War. The focus shifted somewhat from the activities of Mr. Kerry to those of Mr. Bush. Front and center was a report by CBS news that, essentially, said Mr. Bush entered the Guard because of privilege and therefore avoided service in Vietnam. It said he shirked his duties in the Texas and Alabama Air National Guard. But what might have been a damning report was itself undermined by the use of documents of questionable veracity.

The story lingered well past its original broadcast on 60 Minutes II, but only because its premise was methodically debunked by news critics and Republicans interested in defending the President. By last week’s end, the big question was not how badly Mr. Bush had been hurt by the CBS report, but how badly the news network had been damaged by its apparent embrace of phony documents to prop up a story against the President.

Mr. Kerry, meanwhile, taking advice from Mr. Clinton and several of his former aides who have been pulled into the directionless Kerry campaign, adopted a harder edge on the campaign trail, striking blows on several key domestic issues, including health insurance, taxes, and the deficit. While he has also hit Mr. Bush over the handling of the Iraq war, he has mostly stayed away from the President’s conduct of the war on terror, a topic of high concern among likely voters, polls show.

The Zogby Interactive polls show Mr. Kerry has failed to gain traction, and has lost the advantage in the race he first built by naming North Carolina Sen. John Edwards as his running mate. Day to day on the campaign trail, he changes the topic from one domestic issue to another, and voters may be struggling to keep up with him.

The closeness of the race, as shown in this report, gives rise to that most intriguing of parlor game questions – could the Bush-Kerry contest end in a tie?

Using the current Zogby Interactive poll data, it is now easy to construct a plausible scenario in which this very thing could happen. In this newest series of polls, Mr. Kerry continues to nurse an eroding lead that now stands at 264 Electoral College votes to 241 votes for Mr. Bush.

Two states – Arkansas (6 votes) and Florida (27 votes) remain too close to call. Should Mr. Kerry capture Arkansas, home to former President Clinton, who is taking an increasing role in the Kerry campaign, and should Mr. Bush win Florida, which is being flooded with federal aide in the wake of four hurricane strikes and which is governed by the President’s brother, the race would favor Mr. Kerry, 270-268.

However, if two other states, Missouri, which now narrowly favors Mr. Bush, and Minnesota, which currently favors Mr. Kerry, were to flip, we would have a 269-269 tie, and the election would be thrown to the U.S. House of Representatives.

There are lots of other alternate scenarios that are equally plausible. For instance, if Mr. Bush were to capture both Arkansas and Florida, which is likely, but lost either West Virginia or Nevada, the outcome would be the same.

And you thought the 2000 election was fun.

One more thought. With Florida so closely divided, a key to the election may be how the federal (and state) governments lead the way with hurricane relief. The feds are putting on a full court press to get money and materiel where it needs to be to help locals recover, and the state government, under the leadership of presidential brother Jeb, is also laboring on a fast track. The election could come down to whether the lights come back on soon enough and businesses are compensated quickly enough after the string of disastrous storms.

Beyond the mood of Florida voters, there are elections officials struggling with the sheer difficulty of preparing to conduct a statewide election, a difficult task under good conditions. Florida, after all, is hardly known for its prowess when it comes to election management.

Pollster John Zogby: “Just before the Republican Convention I wrote that the main problem that President George W. Bush faced was that he had to wage a three-front war to win re-election. First, bring his own numbers up. Second, drive Senator John Kerry’s down. And, finally, he had to try to dissuade undecided voters, who generally are not leaning his way, from voting.

“My hat is off to the President. He had a good two weeks and was able to make notable progress on all three fronts. The President managed to raise all three of his key barometric readings – job performance, right direction for the country, and whether or not he deserves to be re-elected.

“But this battle is not over. This is not an eleven-point race – and never really was. My last poll showed the President with a three-point lead nationally and about 241 Electoral votes – less than the 270 needed to win. Mr. Kerry has 264 Electoral voters, but neither candidate has hefty enough leads overall or in many of the battleground states.”

I understand that there is a movement in the current Administration to implement the draft beginning in early 2005. This legislation is called HR 163 and can be found in detail at this website: http://thomas.loc.gov/. Just enter in "HR 163" and click search and will bring up the bill for you to read.

I found this on our news notes. You should check out that website and put anything interesting you find on the blog.

for the first time last night while watching QE it occurred to me that the straigt guy didn't give two whits about changing or improving himself or making his woman happy, he just wanted the free stuff. and man did he ever get it. but he was a dolt and i think he sucked.

Can you buy bags of soft pretzels on the street on Philly if you pull your car to the curb? I think I did that there, it was a buck or two. the pretzels were excellent.

Oh yeah, I have NO groceries in the house so I'm using up things that are already here. Last night we had Cat food Casserole. It was EXCELLENT! Tonight it might be Left Over Cat Food Casserole.

Well I had a good day being Aunt Lora at ESS today. I photocopied and distributed "Policy Manuals" for the students. WW popped in on me several times which was a nice way to break up my day. Maddy apparently told today's coyote story to someone on the playground and it made it's way back to my desk. I'll tell you the coyote story later. I'm home now and exhausted from working all day. I'm not playing bridge tonight as Hopie is home. I'll be vegging and watching frontline at 9.

so in no particular order, this is my trip to sanford:

i went to wendy's to get lunch.

i went to shaw's to get shit for supper. i love that shaws over there. it's brand new, has everything in the world, including a HUGE organic section. it's clean and has wide aisles and lots of employees around to help you find stuff. it also has 3 self-check out machines. so i was doing that. this guy came and took my basket and said 'have a nice day'. and i said 'thanks'. a few seconds later he looked at me and said 'have a nice day'. and i thought he didn't hear me so i looked at him and said 'thanks.' then he walked around and looked at me and came up to me and said 'have a nice day.' and i said 'um, thanks.' and he got in my face and said 'why don't you wish me one?' so i said 'um, you too.' and left.

i went to this place called Magnolia to get a mani. they said i needed an appt AND they were gonna charge me 20 bucks for JUST a mani, no french or nothin! so i asked them where else in town did nails. they gave me directions to this place but on the way i found another place (they were asians, amy) and got a french mani. the girl did a great job. the guy working there was very impressed with his new cell phone.

i bought this phone/answering machine at marden's in lincoln on saturday but when i opened it last night it became clear to me that someone had bought two phones, put the cheap one in the expensive box, and returned it for cash, because when i opened the box it was not the phone advertised. so i took it back to sanford today. they were very nice about it and comiserated with me. so at mardens i bought a box of christmas cards (not a GREAT bargain...16 for 3.50), a roll of generic christmas wrap, a roll of scooby doo christmas wrap, and a dark chocolate bar for mila's birthday. i looked at halloween cards but they were very picked over. all the employees were on the floor unpacking 'florida boxes' which is what they said to every person walking by.....'these are the florida boxes'.,....'we're unpacking the florida boxes'.......'what's in your florida boxes?'......obviously this is a big event. i only saw them unpack some lamps and some candles in gift boxes...nothing that was worth anything at all.

do you ever go through phases when you are just clumsy? last night i was packing up amy a little lunch of leftovers when i dropped the whole container of food on the floor. dammit. then this morning i needed to take some expectorant....as i was pouring i dropped the bottle right into the sink SPLASH! hot pink syrup all over amy's bathroom walls. i blame allergies for all this.

Today is "free cone day" at area dairy queens in celebration of the last day of summer

I now have the customer service phone # so if you really need to rave at them for something let me know. At least you eventually get a real person, even if you have to wait on the phone 10 minutes first.

I only caught Ms. Stritch for a second where she said "effing" something. So that was funny. Netflix says they've fixed my problem but they haven't updated my queue yet so we'll see.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't a conspiracy to ruin your movie renting experience.

due to an extreme mix up I'm dangerously close to cancelling my Netflix. They are being extreme reality wanksters.

Eagles Vs. Vikings on Monday Night Football tonight. It's been a very uneventful day. However, you might want to know that a raccoon pillaged my plum tree last night and ruined all by ONE of my plums. He took one bite and threw them on the ground. The chickens had a lovely plummy breakfast though.

she was on edge of night! my favorite soap to name by title!

I Heart Huckabees (2004)

I Heart Huckabees (2004)

a_lo why didn't you post the blog link?

What is I Heart Huckabees? I GIGANTIC GREEN BUG JUST LANDED ON MY WINDOW!!!

amy you need to go under your settings in blogger and change your time zone.

this is jen, not rachael. my movie would be called 'reality bites' but the person who played me would have to be much fatter than wynona rider.

the emmy's were funny...elaine strich was a HOOT. now i have to see 'angels in america'

blog poll:

What is the title of the movie of your life and who plays you?

So Jen came down last night after football. We watched 60 minutes or something and had the best burgers EVER. I think I might have to have another at some point. We watched an hour or so of the Emmy's then went to sleep. I thought Sharon Stone looked the best, though I won't say best dressed, just best overall.

So this a.m. Jen and I watched the Izaac Mizrahi show. Conan was the guest. We learned that the ascot is in, as advertised in this weeks NYT Magazine, so see? When I recommended RR wear an ascot to that wedding it wasn't completely out of line. However, you straight guys should just ignore the ascot cause Izaac says it's a "gay man thing". Which I didn't realize they had gay style and straight style, but now I know don't I. Tyler Sean and John will all be getting ascots from me for xmas this year.

And the intelligent discourse continues

Hastert's al Qaeda comment draws fire
Idea that terrorists want Kerry to win called 'silly,' 'disgraceful'

At a campaign rally Saturday in his Illinois district with Vice President Dick Cheney, Hastert said al Qaeda "would like to influence this election" with an attack similar to the train bombings in Madrid days before the Spanish national election in March.

When a reporter asked Hastert if he thought al Qaeda would operate with more comfort if Kerry were elected, the speaker said, "That's my opinion, yes."

This might come as a shock to you but I've never had a facial, a manicure OR a pedicure. Hmm. My husband has had all three, I think he's even had all three in one appointment. I cooked all weekend which was so much fun. Friday I made apple pie and rolls for my inlaws, and a blueberry pie for my cigar box delivery guy. Saturday JK went to Pembroke. Maddy's game was cancelled so me, jen and the kids went to lincoln and did the town. We came back, made blueberry pie, canned tomatoes and had a lovely evening with JK and Leigh. We had slightly wrong mojitos (wrong because we used coke instead of club soda), but they were very tasty. We had pizza and watched movies. (American Movie and Waiting for Guffman). A good time was had by all. Oh yeah we watched Coven too of course, which was excellent.

Today JK had fire training. We had blueberry muffins and omelettes for brekky with GG and Leigh. That's about it I guess.

dog, skunk, shower stall, rachael, tomato juice...i think you can piece it together.

CORN BOIL DINNER

2 doz. ears corn
3 lbs. carrots, whole
20 potatoes
4 lbs. onions, whole
1 head cabbage
4 lbs. Polish sausage
1 gal. water
1 (5 gal.) lard can

Cut ends from ears of corn and remove all but 3 or 4 layers of the shuck. Stand the corn in the bottom of the can, large end down. Wash and trim ends of carrots and push down between the ears of corn. Wash unpeeled potatoes and place them over the corn and carrots. Peel the onions and place over the potatoes. Quarter the head of cabbage and place with the onions.

Cut Polish sausage into large serving pieces and place on top of the vegetables. Pour 1 gallon water into the can. Punch several nail holes into the lid of the lard can and cover the can. Simmer over hot colas for 3 hours. Complete meal for 20 people.

VARIATION: During the last 30 minutes of cooking time, place 1 pound of shrimp in the can.

i'm not gonna be hungover, i'm dd-ing i think.

what's served at a corn boil, besides corn? were you serious?

yeah, well, thanks but I want to be living with my kids through high school

Can anyone tell me why the Bangor Mall Cinemas aren't listed on yahoo movies?

I can verify that I have also heard all those points, so I think they're pretty accurate. It doesn't really matter to me at all except from a taxpayers standpoint at this time. JK and I are resolved to send our kids ABH. (anywhere but howland). Probably Bangor if not Halifax.

Oh yeah, I made Jen watch the end of Rodan this a.m. If you love Japanese Godzilla movies you'd LOVE Rodan. You should see it. It's GREAT! A Classic.

I say if Howland really wanted a school they should have listened to the State from the start and they would probably have one. It's their own fault (Not Nancy's by the way, she's done an incredible job) they're not getting a school.

I say wear the shirt you love the most, arrive a few minutes late so everyone will notice you, give yourself 20 minutes to get into a fun conversation and take it from there.

and another crisis:

ellen called me in a panic because she forgot to TIVO the race and trackside tonight! i MUST remember to do that when i get back from bangor!

sheesh, everyone today is all fired up about something.

as for me, i'm picking up the kids adn going to have lunch with lovely little leigh

I wanted to get JK something that he would actually enjoy...and hey, the jersey will serve as a tissue when Tech loses to UVa....

I'm saving the UVa stuff for Maddy and Isaiah so I can convince them to go to the best school on earth.

Hey, I'm horrified that people from West Virginia get into UVa....it shouldn't happen. I can't explain it....maybe UVa feels bad for them....or maybe it's part of a federal relocation program to save the population of West virginia from itself

Speaking of which, hey tbone, we were very impressed that you actually picked a Tech shirt for JK instead of a UVA one.

and I heard they take a lot of people from West Virginia at UVA so that says SOMETHING!

hey, I take offense at that. Reality tv is a LOT more real than politics. At least you can figure out the REASON everything happens.
As for tv, JK and I watched survivor last night. We're going to give it another week. I love it when the girls kick the boys' asses.

That last comment about West Virginia was JUST A JOKE- it should not be taken as a personal attack against anybody from that god-forsaken place.

The last bit about reality shows was JUST A JOKE.....It should not be taken as a personal attack against anybody- I mean, you just need to laugh- even god has a sense of humor- look at West Virginia

listen buddy i'll take a teaching exam or a grammar exam against you any day of the week.

Politics and school

While I can't comment on public school politics, I would hazzard a guess that there is just as much politics and personal agenda clashes at my school- it's something that one has to get used to as a teacher no matter where you go. And while I hate to say it, while we like to admit it or not, teaching is by nature a position of power and influence, and as such it is a political positon in terms of the fact that we are educating and shaping the way students look at the world- that's why the conservatives are so frightened about teachers that actually encourage students to develop their critical approaches to life through education- the dumbing down of america makes the population easier to control and more accepting of reality shows, replacing discourse about national issues with who got kicked off of "the apprentice" last night and how childish the people are acting...

i thought the donald did it just because the guy agreed that he made a stupid mistake. if he said 'hey i just wanna put my work ethic up to the pepsi challenge' then the donald would have kept him. but he sat there like a dolt and agreed it was stupid.

what i don't like about the new season of apprentice is that it's too 'survivor' in that people are trying to form alliances and shit. i hate it when one comes up to the other and says 'hey, let's go talk for a bit'....i HATE that. it's SOOOOOO sixth grade. i HATE that about survivor and if they keep it up on apprentice i won't watch that either.

another thing i've noticed is that they've really bitched up caroline. apparently they've told her to go off on one random person every week whether she has a reason to or not. last night it obviously was forced, came out of nowhere, and came off stupid.

I agree with Jen, every job is political and remember, the people who run for the school board are all people with an agenda, that's why they run, some teacher screwed their kid (not literally) or they had a fight with some other board member.

Besides, I want you to make a life changing decision and move to Howland. Our school board is SOOO reasonable here.

well, i guess my last post isn't going to show up. what i said was throw something down the dishwasher through the drain...like rubber cement, peanut butter, or broken glass....

don't even get me started

because of the nature of school funding, everyone in town tries to work their personal agendas into schools. especially the school board.

Besides TBone, you don't really LOVE kerry do you? I didn't think anyone did. I think HD should throw together an independant campaign starting 10/1 and run away with the election.

W stands for Witchypoo

W Stands for Witnit, I mean nitwit

W Stands for WARMONGER

he should have used W Stands for WANKER!

Sick of pettyrhetoric

Don't get me wrong, I love Kerry, but really, I would like to find the idiot who advised him to start this stupid "W stands for Wrong- Wrong Vision" crap which is so stupid, and smack him upside the head. I mean, it's so silly....it's so....republician....

Innovative financial policy...

Now, as the new school year gets under way, the burden on teachers around the country is even heavier.

Because of a budget crunch, California has suspended a tax credit that reimbursed teachers up to $1,500 for classroom supplies. Meanwhile, a $250 federal tax deduction for teachers that helped defray out-of-pocket spending expired this year.

"The end of the tax benefits is effectively a tax increase for teachers -- people who spend thousands of their own dollars each day for their classrooms and who don't deserve a tax increase," said Barbara Kerr, president of the California Teachers Association.

Work=witness protection program

Hello all,

Back from the dead- with many apologies for my silence- its been hectic with the start of school and all. I have 130 kids back in the dorm for the start of school- getting them on the ball has been interesting. Plus I have three new faculty members to train. Whew! I'm still treading water, but my doggie paddle has become a little more confident.
My dorm has also been dealing with the recent problem that one of my great seniors has been dealing with- the kid went home to have shoulder surgury and they discovered that he has bone cancer- so now he's going through kemo. Just shocking. We're all talking to him and keeping his spirits up, but it's been tough for everybody.
The good news is that I received a shipment of root 66 root beer a couple of weeks ago- that stuff rocks! I will have to bring some to ME next time. I also am pumped for the new SIMS 2 game which comes out tomorrow.
I promise to be blogging regularly now- I will definitely make sure to fullfill my blog responsibilities.

I think this is a problem with the Codecs? I'm just guessing here. The thing is, the cd is playing but no sound is coming out. I know the speakers work because I get sound when I'm doing everything else includeing listening to music on the internet.

I'm having ongoing computer problems, which, I'm quite sure, are caused by some virus. My Media Player won't play and I can't copy cds. What should I do?

...how things change

Now his favorite song is J. Geils "Centerfold"

Oh yeah, I went to yoga yesterday, it was good to be back with the gang. We had a very good class. After, I did a little shopping then came right home. I had a duncachino too.

Isaiah would never let ME sing either, unless I sang "you've got a friend" that was the only song he liked. Maddy liked "A Change will do you good"

who is ali g?

songs of salvation to save the mortal soul

Since i'm left out of all this choral stuff, I've decided to incorporate hymns into my repertoire. This a.m. I treated JK to "Old Rugged Cross". Ha!

Strawberry is my favorite, though R & J's black n blueberry ROCKS! This week i'm into blueberry rhubarb.

good news for people who like good product

i read on the internet this morning that eyelashes are VERY in for the fall. well, if you know me, you can imagine my despair. however, they suggested maybelline volum' express turbo boost mascara. well, i just happened to be in bangor today and picked some up. it is the best mascara i've ever used. you cannot let it dry between coats however. it is GREAT. rachael you should come see my turbo lashes before you go to bangor, you'll want some of this. and it was only 5 bucks!

i enjoyed my time with bob, the haircut is fine, but he styled it like 'that girl' so i had to fix that. the flip is SO last year.

KIDiddles: Song Lyrics: The Dying Fisherman's Song

KIDiddles: Song Lyrics: The Dying Fisherman's Song

It was midnight on the ocean,
Not a streetcar was in sight;
While the sun was shining brightly,
For it had rained all the night.
'Twas a summer's day in Winter,
And the rain was snowing fast,
As the barefoot girl with shoes on
Stood there sitting in the grass.

Glory, glory, what a story!
Glory, glory, tell me more-ee!
Glory, glory, she'll be sorry!
As the barefoot girl with shoes on
Stood there sitting in the grass.

It was evening and the sunrise
Was just setting in the west;
And the fishes in the treetops
Were all cuddled in their nests.
As the wind was blowing bubbles,
Lightning shot from left to right;
Everything that you could see
Had been hidden out of sight.

Glory, glory, I can't find it!
Glory, glory, who's behind it?
Glory, glory, where'd they hide it?
Everything that you could see
Had been hidden out of sight!

While the organ peeled potatoes,
Lard was rendered by the choir;
When the sexton rang the dishrag,
Someone set the church on fire.
"Holy Smokes!" the preacher shouted,
As he madly tore his hair,
Now his head resembles heaven,
For there is no parting there.

Glory, glory, what a shiny dome!
Glory, glory, get that man a comb!
Glory, glory, that's the end of my poem!
Now his head resembles heaven,
For there is no parting there.

don't even THINK about finding the words to Bessey the heiffer (or hereford) though or any of thost crazy songs orlie used to sing.

today's lesson

my guitar lesson today involves JK torturing me into playing my cords correctly. My fingers are killing me, but hey, that's progress isn't it?

well, teach liam to squash them, i bet he'd be good at it.

I got my birthday present because it's been sitting here unopened in a ups box for 2 weeks. When Jen showed up I told her that if it was a tshirt I needed it now because I'd only have a week to wear it before the election if they waited until my birthday to give it to me. You can't really argue with that logic.

and a big blog thank you to T-Bone for my birthday present. A t-shirt: John Kerry: Bringing complete sentences back to the white house". I"m wearing it.

Gopher Everett?

There was a chipmunk massacre at my house last night. I woke up with dead rodents and rodent parts all over the place yesterday morning.

hey jude

i don't think the aviator looks that interesting. and i read lemony snicket but i think the movie might be more entertaining than the dumb book...sorry rachael. it was dumb, unless you're 8.

bridge report

bridge was held at the home of gram. all the regs were there, except rachael made me play at 8. i had good hands and bad hands. i got a little slam and 2 or 3 hands where i made 5....that's VERY good. the hands were very average. high was lora, low was............i can't remember....lil? maybe. i won goose. we all got halloween decorations. the snacks were popcorn and m&m's, the treat was sam's club danish. a lovely time was had by all. next week bridge will be on tuesday at the home of aunt faye. how'd i do, rachael?

went to bridge last night but really didn't feel like being there. Jen showed up and I forced her to play the rest of the night for me. Came home and JK and I watched 3 hours of the Sopranos. Jen is here having coffee with us.

Jude Law

Jude Law

oh, forget it, i won't see lemony snicket or the aviator.

probably bomb, but since it has jude law and i like the concept, DA BOMB! i've made an oath to see every jude law film this fall:

sky cap'n and world o' tomorrow
alfie
i heart huckabees
closer
and i think there's one more.

sorry peeps, I've been watching the Sopranos and doing laundry and actually working. Bridge tonight at gg's/

not knowing what it is, I say BOMB.

ok i've packed up, given the cat his drugs, and i'm on the road. feel free to call me to entertain me throughout the day. sure, it's just a 4 hour drive, but i have to stop and see jimmy on the way up, so with any luck i'll be in b-town in time for suppah. mom's making squash, per my request. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

shallot, not scallion.

well let's see, we didn't do much last night, We had the trusty ol maple pork medallions for dinner with rice and squash, watched the Benefactor and 1/3 of a football game and went to bed. I woke up this a.m. with a MAJOR allergy attack because I didn't take my claritin last night (it was keeping me awake I think, so i was trying to put it off till morning), anyway i woke up not being able to breathe, my lungs were plugged, i popped a pill and was better in 40 minutes thank blog.

We've all had these dilemmas haven't we. I always use the "I'll call you" line and never call. I think ignoring a stalker is always the best answer. You can never be just casual with that kind of person. He's looking for a place to live.

leigh is either no longer interested in our antics, or she is too busy with actual work; i hear she's been doing that lately.

now, i know people have sent me emails today, but i haven't received ONE. isn't that frustrating?

Cooking For Engineers

I don't know why he gets so much traffic, his page is only about how much damn traffic he gets. Jees.

Surprisingly my children have not yet mentioned halloween costumes yet. I'll have to get them thinking about that because you never know when an elaborate costume would be in order. Last year I tried to get them to go as Daphne and Scooby Doo but they both wanted to be cats (AGAIN)

well JK and I have been cleaning up the lawn and taking care of summer shit. We have a bike to donate to Lemur (it has training wheels too!!) It'll be perfect for him next summer I predict. Jen you are going to be so thrilled I think the plums will be ripe next weekend!!!!

i agree that liam would be a cute cat. he'd also be a cute pirate, doctor, ghost, carpenter, or any village people character..except the guy in leather pants, that would be frightening. remember when maddy was about that age we dressed her like elvis for halloween. maybe she was a year younger. anyway, i highly recommend an elvis costume, complete with chest hair, if you want to laugh at your child's expense.

Liam would be a very cute cat. What does he want to be?

so you know what I did Friday, but just to let you know I severely burned my tongue on the chinese food broccoli on friday so I've been suffering ever since, it's bearable today, almost gone in fact except in a couple of places.

Saturday we drove home packed picked up the kids and headed Downeast for the Kilby cookout. We visited with Don and Norma for a couple of hours then went to the BBQ where we had a good time. There were many kids there so our children had fun too! However, keep in mind that Isaiah had two scooby movies that he hadn't watched yet, waiting for him at home, so he was KIND OF impatient when he thought about it.

We spent the night at Robinson's and Isaiah was mad about that till he realized the cabin had a lot of good hiding places, so he forgot about scooby for the night.

We got up sunday, packed up and went to Eastport. Eastport is in the middle of a real estate boom, all these old people from out of state are buying all the houses and fixing them up. I couldn't believe what a change there has been in just one year.

We came home and half unpacked, watched football and that's about it. Last night JK actually watched the most ignorant television show ever produced. It was on ABC, something about a billion dollars, it was basically an hour of Tom Bergeron opening 7 envelopes. I couldn't really believe how boring and stupid it was and that JK was actually watching it. I was reading.

After the guy DIDN"T win a billion dollars (you couldn't guess he didn't could you?) We watched O Brother and went to bed. Today weve been taking care of summer shit and I"m doing laundry.

hold on hold on, I know it's late but I"ve been very busy. As soon as I get the screen house down and away I'll do my blogging.

i'm soooo exhausted. well, i left tyler's at 11:50...max watched me from the bedroom window as i drove off. my first stop was in charlton plaza on the mass pike for a pee and a snack. they had vitamin water! yay! then, oh i forgot to say that i stopped in traffic in waterbury and hartford. then again in worchester. then again in lowell. then again in lawrence. then again in portsmouth. then again in dover. i was trying to get to dover prompto to get my oil filled up for free but i was 20 minutes late. i arrived at amy's 6 hours after i left tyler's, and it should have only been a 4 hour drive. exhausted, i walked in the house to amy saying 'i need your help RIGHT NOW.' turns out gus's back was covered in blood and he had bled on her NEW comforter.....i suggested emergency room (as we didn't know if he was bitten by something rabid)...so off to the vet hospital we went. we had to wait 2 hours to get gus seen....i gave amy a book and went to get a very nice french manicure. apparently, gus had previously been bitten by something, the scab had abcessed, and had broken open...he's staying overnight for anitbiotic injection and observation. he's gonna have one of those cone collars. here's my suggestion...if you like your cats at all...get pet health insurance! it's only 12 dollars a month and could save you a lot at the emergency vet hospital on a friday night! we got home at 9:30. needless to say, i'm completely exhausted now....and the house is pet free tonight...how odd.

Definition of London Bridge is falling down - wordIQ Dictionary & Encyclopedia

Definition of London Bridge is falling down - wordIQ Dictionary & Encyclopedia: "What does the rhyme mean?

The meaning of the rhyme is obscure. Most obviously, it relates to the many difficulties experienced in bridging the Thames; London's earlier bridges did indeed 'wash away' before a bridge built of 'stone so strong' was constructed. It has been suggested that the 'fair lady' who is 'locked up' is a reference to an old practice of burying a dead virgin in the foundations of the bridge to ensure its strength through magical means. Intriguingly, the rhyme is not confined to England and variants exist in many other western and central European countries."

I think trailer park or 70's disco would be more conduscive to coming up with both menu's and karaoke tunes.

did you teach Liam Allouette? Did he like the "pluck your eyes" part?

I'm not posting menues to force you to eat something, I'm trying to push you into picking a menu for blogs sake.

What are you doing tomorrow that requires a sitter or did you already blog it, in which case you may give me a hard time. Tomorrow our family is going to Dennysville for a Kilby family event.

I'll chip in too.

i'll gladly pitch in 5

I'll reserve a spot for Leigh since no one is doing it for her. LTL you're probably going to have to make up place holder cards so there won't be any rioting.

i'll reserve one of those sleeping surfaces!

then wouldn't that be....wonderland?

I don't think I'll bring the kids on 10/22. I think I'll reserve a sitter for the weekend. Then if I"m hung over I won't have to worry about my kids!

I thing BW and WW should change their names to Wonder. I'm going to get them a sign that says "Wonders" for their new house for a housewarming present.

so i watched the apprentice last night. everyone struck me as very backstabbing and bitchy. we'll see what the season has in store, but so far, it seems like it's full of people i'd love to hate, so it should make for good watching.

i don't know what i did last night, we didn't eat supper, but the kids had chicken nuggest, carrots and disgusting french fries.

Maddy threw up a couple of times last night for no apparent reason but she blames it on the oreida smiley fries.

JK and I watched 2 qtrs of the Pat's then fell asleep. Tonight the kids are going shopping with the 'rents so JK and I really should do SOMETHING.

I just re read my birthday party invite. Since no one else did it, I'm reserving Emily's spare room unless Janelle has already done so. I'm pulling my age rank here and also my guest of honor status.

good news for people who love travel news

i'll be leaving ct in approx one hour. i have to head out before all the parents come and block the roadways with their suv's. you can all expect phonecalls during my trip to entertain me, except ltl and rr, i don't know your numbers.

Thursday, September 09, 2004

i'm sure you'll just not do laundry or dishes until i get there. i'll be there sometime tomorrow. you may be watching gangs of new york this weekend, but i have declared my life a leonardo free zone.

good news for people who love tea, bad news for people who love soccer

Steaks and stuff now carries King Cole Tea (although they only had decaf) I bought a box and now have 14 lbs of tea at my house.

Maddy's game on saturday has been cancelled due to the hurricane. Please make a note.

well it's official. i'm coming to amy's on friday.

a_lo, throw out your friggin old pants. do i have to take you shopping this weekend, or are we doing ceiling repair?

snoop lives!

yay, return of the snoop! i missed ya....hey i'm gonna be in b-town next week, you'd better find a day when we can lunch or dinner together.

I believe that's the version you sing if you're actually plucking something, it seems to take about the same amount of time. I'll let you know the next time I pluck a chicken.

i have those exact symptoms right now and for me it is allergies. seems like everyone is having allergy trouble this year, right snoop?

speaking of which, ltl do you know if they sell zyrtek over the counter in canada? i need to hit a canadian drug store when i come up for emily and rachael's surprise party to find out.

I don't think you should call it a cold until you've tried some good allergy medicine. Those symptoms all sound familiar to me as I have been dealing with them for a month but you'd have to add uncontrollable sneezing attacks, and headache.

Oh yeah and one last complaint "HOPE IS ON THE WAY" is not a good rally cry for blogs sake. Don't they have PR people and focus groups? or did they just recycle Gore's people?

Edwards Rally Review

since I already emailed my review to Uncle Peter I can just paste it here. I'm a bit less riled right now since I just learned that Alouette is a "plucking" song. So that's entertaining me right this second.

Ugh, I was so disappointed, Let's see if I can accurately describe it.

Well, John and I showed up at the University an hour early so we decided to go have coffee as there weren't that many people there, (they were expecting about 2000). So we went out to get in line at about 3:45 and the line was HUGE!!! So we decided to just wait at the beginning of the line and watch everyone go in and wait until the end. It was SOOOOOO disorganized but anyway they decided to have a red ticket line and a blue ticket line and let people show their tickets and go in (they had to be visually looked at for security reasons). So they started to file through security, cross the fogler library steps, then go on to the mall. Firstly why didn't he just speak on the library steps and let people be on the mall???? So Edwards was going to speak at 5 (news time) and they started the lines flowing at 4. Now with 7000-8000 people there this WASNT enough time. So around 4:30 they started panicking and decided that people weren't walking fast enough so these 4 guys were SCREAMING AT PEOPLE to WALK FASTER, MOVE IT, MOVE THE LINE, GET GOING, COME ON PEOPLE GO FASTER it was ridiculous, and they kept on screaming until about 10 of 5 when they decided that they were NEVER going to get everyone through the security so they decided that it didn't matter if you had a ticket or not they just needed to get people on the mall, so they opened the floodgates and let people in. So much for security? Anyway they made the brilliant decision that on a college campus they weren't going to allow backpacks on the mall, so that was another issue entirely.

I don't know, I have a million complaints about it, I know it was 'news time" but wouldn't you think you'd plan it for 5:30 or 6:00 so people that actually work at the university could go to the rally?

So it started with some guy stumping for Mike michaud, I don't know who it was but he was a BAD speaker and stumbled over his words. Then Stephen King got up and he was VERY GOOD, Baldacci, just did his thing skimming over the issues and then Edwards went over his talking points and left. I mean, you couldn't get a LESS enthusiastic crowd, they just did nothing to rile people up. They didn't talk about Maine and Maine issues, they didn't even have the friggin unions there.

Anyway, I was so disappointed with it that I just call Kerry's coordinator in Portland. I walked away feeling MAD about the whole thing.

dont' take it back! unless you're afraid of getting caught by big brother and sent to guantanamo...then you can take it back.

you know she means it when she drops the F bomb.

ltl, are you familiar with Emily the Strange?

Just please someone friggin explain that no good for nuthing VEEP's damn logic. If he thinks the terrorists are more likely to attack if we vote for Kerry why 1.) did the terrorists attach with the Dub as pres and 2.) if we're so much safer with these bozo's around why do we get elevated terror alerts every figgin 3 weeks? Does this make ANY sense? What am I missing? and 3.) if we want to keep america safe why are we not renewing the assault weapons ban? JOHN CANDY it makes no sense!

George Bush:
"Too many good docs are getting out of business. Too many ob-gyns aren't

able to practice their ... their love with women all across this
country."
(See it at http://homepage.mac.com/njenson/movies/obgyn.html)

this i know as fact; no matter how nice you are about it, most people get offended when you correct their grammar. you should simply say 'those' after the person says 'them' next time.

I would give those a grammar book. Dog ear the "them/those" page.

I'm all for giant tarps, silver tarps have that "glam" look and have the added benefit of being heavy duty.

I was so riled about the rally that I called the Kerry/Edwards office this am and gave them a piece of my mind. I'm sure the woman thinks I"m a psycho.

october surprise

so when do you think they'll pull bin laden out of their hats? I'm saying 10/15

tv news

apprentice starts tonight.

Well I went to Orono yesterday to see Mr. Edwards. JK and I had lunch at the Black Bear brew pub. I had crab cakes and salad and it was pretty good. We went to see Edwards at the University and it was just ridiculous. He's lucky I'm committed to change or I wouldn't vote for him just because of the ridiculous crowd control methods they employed (even though I know it wasn't his fault). I can't comment further because I'm employing the "serenity now" strategy this a.m. after watching the news today.

Well, I have a lot to catch up on. Firstly the blueberry pie recipe. This was the best 2 crust blueberry pie I ever made.

4 cups blueberries
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 tbsp butter
zest of 1/2 lemon (or more to taste)
pinch of cinnamon

your favorite crust

put 3 cups of blueberries in a saucepan with the sugar, cornstarch and a couple of tablespoons of water. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce is relatively clear. Remove from heat and allow to cook to lukewarm. Mix in the remaining blueberries, lemon and cinnamon. Pour into uncooked pie crusht and top with butter and second crust. Brush crust with egg white or cream and sprinkle with sugar. Cook just until crust is browned. Allow to cool and serve with ice cream if desired.

omg the blog is actually working now. finally, at the end of the day of course.

well today i've been packing. that's about all. it's boring i know, but what can i say?

i also watched last night's qe, which i watched last night too, but boredom makes one do weird things.

well obviously the blog is f'ed up today.

congrats lemur!!! your first big boy pee...now you can miss the potty just like a real man! ok not ALL men miss the potty, but in my day....i've seen it happen.

today i'm gonna start packing up some shit and watch a few movies. headed to amy's tomorrow.

emily and r's surprise party will be on October 22, as that is karaoke night at the lounge down under.

today's schedule

Today: orono for lunch, coffee, see John Edwards at orono, discuss, yoga, home. That's my plan and I'm trying to stick to it.

Congratulations to Liam. You're a big boy now.

I emailed all of you Maddy's soccer schedule I'll update the field locations if I ever find out where they are.

JK is going to Yarmouth tonight after the rally.

re: time on the blog, check your settings to see that you are posting in eastern time and not some funky timezone.

Burlington Bridge Report

Bridge was held at the home of Orlie and Suzanne, hosted by Rachael last evening. The snack was a mixture of popcorn, gardetto's nonpareils and chocolate covered pretzels. Of course the mostly ate the chocolate. The treat was your choice of blueberry pie with or without vanilla ice cream, or chocolate brownies. The cards sucked but we had fun anyway. Prizes were won by: Helen - high, Lill - Low and goose, Lora - consolation prize. A good time was had by all.

What day are we having the surprise party for Emily and Rachael?

well no one on the blog is going to entertain me, i guess i'll just go back to bed.

it's confirmed. i won't be going to philly this weekend. i am, however, planning a trip halloween weekend if i'm not employed. if this conflicts with anyone else's plans for me, speak now!

so, it looks like i'll be heading to amy's thursday or friday, then up north after a few days at amy's. i'll be home until approx sept 19, then probably back to ct or to dc, depending on who wants me.

RR rachael and i were just discussing this weekend how if we had your yahoo ID and we could catch up with you we could all play bridge....email it to one of us if you want to play!

i'm not 100% sure that i'm going to philly this weekend after all. i haven't heard from andrea, and tyler's not going as he has kids moving into school this weekend. so if i do go, i'm not sure when i'm going or when i'm leaving, how's that for certainty of plans?!?

let's see, what do i have to report? i have been pretty lazy at tyler's. i have him on a low cholesterol diet so i haven't been cooking his old favorites. we eat a lot of salad, yogurt, and go lean crunch. saturday night i made him this pineapple curry chicken that he picked out of cooking light magazine....luckily, the chicken was roasted separately from the sauce, because the sauce was about the most disgusting thing i've ever tasted....he liked it though. we had rice and snap peas with it.

sunday we decided to go see 'garden state'. wait for the rental. tyler likes it more every time he sees it, but i think it was just ok. there was nothing bad about it. tyler says it is a GREAT movie. big surprise, eh?

yesterday we hung out at the place with the stuff and watched 'mystic river' which we both liked but were pissed at the end. not that the ending wasn't good, but that it wasn't satisfying. left us uneasy. but it was a good movie.

i made minestrone yesterday and today it will be better when we have it for dinner with mozza, tomato, and basil panini.

i think that's all i have to say now.

days of pie and laundry

Well I've done four loads of laundry, a load of dishes, made a batch of brownies (alternatie bridge treat for those of them that hate blueberries (they know who they are)) and blueberry pie for those that requested it. I'm trying a new pie recipe we'll review it latah. I'm concerned that i may not have ice cream to go on top. Ah well.

Welp today is JK's birthday and boy did he make out. He's gotten a gift every day, practically, for the past two weeks. That's because I can't stand to hold on to presents if I know he's going to like them. Which sucks. I'm so bad at surprises. For my birthday I'm hoping for "Searching for Wasabi" by Boynton. That's what I asked for. I ought to let her know so she doesn't sell it.

i think the times of the posts are screwed up. i'll give a report after i make the nordictrack my bitch and have some lunch, and maybe go to the iga.

orlie and I set up the telescope and got it to work a little. Then I went home and the kids had a sleepover. JK and I watched Yojimbo again and went to bet very early (10ish). Woke up yesterday, had coffee and took M to the Springfield fair. The boy WOULD NOT go, though I have no idea why. Just stubborn I guess. We had a lot of fun at the fair. M and I went on ALL the rides. 2 haunted houses, the scrambler, the flying teacup thingy and M went on the Hi Jacker, but I didn't. She found a couple of rides that she went on 12 times. It was good because there were no lines. I had taco salad and a few of M's fries. she had popcorn, a slushy, a snow cone, a hot dog, 2 things of fries a fried dough and an orange soda. JK had a sausage. We stayed ALL DAY! We watched the woodman's contest and the demolition derby. We looked at all the horses and chickens. Maddy had interesting observations about all the animals. We saw 10,000,000 people we knew, but I have to admit JK knew a lot more people than I did given the large presence of misc. fire dept personnel from Lee, Springfield and Topsfield and an uncanny number of people from downeast at the fair. A very good time was had by all although I got a sunburn on my cheeks.

ok so I can start with Saturday night. So sat. night I watched Yojimbo or most of it anyway, and I thought it was excellent! It was very "fistful of dollars" so if you like spaghetti westerns (which I do) you will love Yojimbo. I need to check which film was made first because they were so similar. Sunday Leigh came for breakfast and we had omelettes again. Leigh and I drank MANY cups of coffee, watched MTP and George, also got ready for the partay. Thank you to everyone who showed up for the boys birthday. He loves his gifts. He already has all the halloween dec's all tested and arranged. He LOVES that flying bat. The kids and I left right after Emily because the boy wanted to try stuff out. JK and Amy stayed at camp for what a hear was a few rousing games of Yahtzee in which the boys won all three games.

Ok let's see. Saturday Amy and Leigh came for breakfast. Did I already go over this? HOld on I have to go check.

Here is a good bedtime story. Maybe Liam would like it.

The Alien Invaders
by Maddy

One day I was at my friend Lany's birthday party, when an enormous U.F. O. landed on the lawn. "DONUTS!" The aliens said. "DONUTS!!! AHHH!!!!" everyone screamed and ran for their lives! "Why did they run away?" asked the first alien. "I don't know." replied the second alien. "All we wanted was some donuts. It's not like we caused an invasion."

"Yes, it is." remnded the first alien.

"Oh." answered the second. "I guess we have to go back to mars."

"I agree" sighed the first alien. But they didn't go back. They hid in the bushes instead.

"AHHHH!" A chorus of 'ahhs' rang out.

"You're shaped like donuts!" Lany laughed.

The aliens looked down. "The earthling is right!" the first alien giggled.

"We both look like chocolate donuts with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles!" laughed the second alien.

Finally we went to the amusement park and stayed for the rest of the day.

The end.

last night JK and I watched Black Adder and before that had a nice visit with GG and Bumpa. Not much else. Leigh came for coffee this a.m. and picked up the kiddos. Amy came for breakfast. I went to lincoln and bought more birthday supplies (cake decorations and food) and sneakers and pajamas for Maddy at mardens. I've been napping and watching football all afternoon. Why is Gary Thorne announcing football? I thought he just did Hockey. Anyway, I love fall.

CNN.com - Bill Clinton to undergo bypass surgery - Sep 3, 2004

i just got my days mixed up. Sorry about putting you in a panick. Sunday sunday sunday. It rhymes with Monday anyway. I had monday on the brain because JK and i have been talking about the fair.

the party is SUNDAY AFTERNOON!!!!

oh that wasn't a directive toward you LTL...just a statement in general. it's so gross.

i've had lsoh songs running through my head all afternoon.

i will sadly not be attending the party as it's my last time with tyler when he's not teaching.

do NOT buy maddy any track suit that has words written across the ass!

dammit maddy could really use a new track suit. If you go back before monday pick it up for me please and i'll reimburse you. Size 8 skinny if possible.

guess who's coming to dinner! AAAAJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ Posted by Hello

i really dont' know what i'm doing this weekend. trying to find veena i think. riding the nordictrack, laundry, cooking, beating up tyler, watching movies...

let's see, i know what leigh is doing and i have a partial picture of amy's weekend and a smidge of ltl's, other thatn that i have no idea. I don't even know what i'm doing except making cake.

alright, what's everyone doing this weekend?

you know what, i can't read his speach so the rebuttal has ended. Rebut it for your self on the NYT website www.nytimes.com

And we have seen Americans in uniform storming mountain strongholds and charging through sandstorms, and liberating millions with acts of valor that would make the men of Normandy proud.

no rebuttal

well it's taking forever for my posts to post today so scroll down to see my earlier ones.

last night tyler sacrificed his taste and better judgement by taking me to see 'vanity fair'. i loved it of course....period piece with reese witherspoon, very fa fa fa, as jk would say...but i love reese, i LOVED the movie, and jk, i'm NOT recommending it to you, so there.

We have seen a shaken economy rise to its feet.

The nation has lost 2.9 jobs million since January 2001, just before the last recession began, the longest such stretch of pain since World War II. Nearly 800,000 of those jobs have disappeared since the recession ended in November 2001. Manufacturing shed 26,000 jobs in December - the 41st straight month of falling factory payrolls.

Two years ago President Bush's economic team projected that the nation would add more than 3 million jobs by the end of 2003.

the tag...i meant the tag

I wonder who that was fighting with themselves on the blog

i had a dream last night that snoop and i went on a road trip. but before we could go we had to get ellen's two horses on the back of the truck....they fit, standing up, don't ask me how. we were trying to decide if we should go to montreal or to visit RR...except RR didn't live in philly, he lived in kennebunkport. we opted to visit RR. then a bunch of other really weird, unrelated stuff happened.

LTL>....if i don't have a job, COUNT ME IN>i still remember the lyrics from playing ping pong in the basement!

i say keep the hdrotd and if you want to say what you like about philly, say it.

Blog Movie Review

On the Waterfront

Starring Marlon Brando and a million other people. 1954 Directed by Elia Kazan.

Elia Kazan's thrilling essay on good vs. evil is SO worth watching. Sure it's a little slow, but you get the "I could have been a contender line". Brando was such a great actor I could watch it again and again. Very good performance by Karl Malden to boot.

line by line rebuttal of the speech by THE DUB last night

Thank you all. Mr. Chairman, delegates, fellow citizens: I'm honored by your support and I accept your nomination for president of the United States.

rebuttal: he's not honored by their support, he's holding them hostage. You're either with him or your against him, in which case you are a traitor, part of the axis of evil and on the bombing list.

RR will you please email me your WILAP for yesterday, or yahoo me, whatever!

I hate that play. I only like the movie. RR I say if they say NOTHING at all you can just do whatyou want. Then you'll have to listen to them complain but at least you won't be in limbo any longer. What's your first song going to be at your new job?

Much as I wanted to watch the Dub do his speech last night, JK insisted we watch a movie instead, so I did, kicking and screaming. On the Waterfront starring Marlon Brando. JK and I had fish chowdah for supper which was very good. The kids had happy meals which were like happy meals. We had a big fight about which happy meal bag belonged to which kid but other than that....

I went to open house to meet the teachers and talk about my kids and how smart and well adjusted they are. I think they are both going to have a good year. Isaiah is EXTREMELY proud of a paper he brought home yesterday, on which the teacher wrote "You are TOO SMART!"

I too like storm coverage. I should have gone to an accredited school to become a meteorologist. I would have been a very good storm chaser, and I have a proven record of rescuing people during storms, right LEE N.????

Thursday, September 02, 2004

well actually,

I didn't even style my hair today. It was a wash and go day and dammit, wouldn't you know it I had to go to school for open house. Of course I didn't know that until after school. So I went flipless and it was fine. Although I have to admit some of the Moms were really decked out.

Just so you know Mad was disappointed that Aund Janelle wasn't at school for open house.

no, I'm sure Jesus Christ is classified as "blasphemy" not swearing

i have to say i'm enjoying the daily congratulations from ltl.

todd has forwarded my resume to some woman who is in charge of tech writers in his company. she said my resume was 'impressive' and had 'good syntax'...of course, she doesn't have a job for me, but she said she'd like to talk to me when i'm in the area again. but she doesn't have a job for me.

if he has a migraine he should pop a couple of excedrine with that coffee, the caffeine double dose will take RIGHT care of that.

Well we're enjoying an afternoon of the Sopranos. We decided to take 1/2 a day off. We're going to drink a giant pot of coffee too.

i'm now watching the home movie of the singalong at the reichsman residence before p&j's wedding. there was a very quick shot of ltl breakin it down, joplin style. and me singing 'fish heads'

I know you said it LTL, I was just being obnoxious because you DID say it, and, hey, it worked, it takes a lot of annoyance to get you to swear!

It's official. I have changed my default browser to Mozilla Firefox. Thanks RR!

Isaiah and JK went to Marden's yesterday to buy sneakers. The got a nice pair of converse for the boy and a GIANT stuffed Frankenstein for Suzanne. I can't believe he got his father to spend $10 on a stupid decoration, but he did. Now they need another $40 worth of giant stuffed things so they have the entire set. If you need a last minute gift for Isaiah get him a halloween decoration.

I'd WATCH monk if it were on but I'd never seek it out.

rachael i thought you liked MONK ok....

JK and I watched an episode of the Sopranos last night. As much as I hate cop shows I love mob shows. I wouldn't be surprised if we watch the last two episodes on the dvd today sometime.

I've never watched Homicide. I HATE cop shows.

i used to watch homicide once in a great while. it is a good show..what a tribute!
