Pink Salad
Well, I must say I was encouraged by Unk's review of "Pink Salad", the recipe which was blogged a few weeks ago. I made Pink Salad for Jen this morning, and I must say..my previous opinion of it stands. The texture is exactly as I imagined, therefore, i will NOT be eating pink salad. Sorry. (I will try it again later though, after it sets. I'm lucky I tasted it at all, though, so you have to give me credit for it.) I'm glad you all like it though. Maybe if it had more fruit in it.....

Well, my kids had quite a plan last night. They were going to stay up all night. They even agreed to watch P & P if I would allow them to do it. Why did they want to stay up all night? So they would be really tired and sleep all day and night today so Friday would come faster. Doesn't that just pull at your heartstrings Jennykins?

Hostess Twinkies Sushi
Japanese animation, Hello Kitty, samurais, ninjas, and Sushi are really popular right now! Here"s a wild recipe that"s super easy to make and super fun to eat as a light and fruity snack! This recipe transforms the much loved Twinkie into a hip and tropical flavored treat.
Items Needed:
* 3 Hostess Twinkies
* Assorted dried fruits
* Assorted fruity candies
* 2 green fruit roll ups
* Dried mangoes (looks like pickled ginger)
DIRECTIONS:
Slice Hostess Twinkies into pieces about an inch tall. Slice fruit roll ups in strips to the long enough and wide enough to wrap around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Wrap the fruit roll ups around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Place dried fruits and candies into the cream filling. Place Twinkie rolls on a plate or in a bento box. Garnish with strips of dried mango to resemble pickled ginger if you wish! Serve with chopsticks if you wish.

I don't mind being awaked before 1am....that's the only reason my phone is on. If I woke up at say, 3 or 4, I would put the phone on silent. Until just last week, I had to keep my phone on because it was my alarm clock--is that ok with you???
As for decency, I don't think that factored into it..I think it had to do more with the giggles that would result knowing that you arose me from a much needed beauty rest.
To Jen:
Even though it wasn't me who messaged you,Jen, get over it. Don't you know that the potential of waking you up is have the fun of knowing you?
If you don't want to be awakened, I suggest you turn off your phone and computer. Since you didn't do this it seems to imply you just don't want be wakened by us, which mean you wouldn't mind being awakened by some other segment of the population. Would you care to explain THAT!!!! Because it's very offensive.
To the Witch who Text Messaged me this Morning
I did not sleep well last night--I don't know why but for the last few months going to sleep before midnight is not possible. I was lucky enough to get a text message LONG before my alarm clock goes off this morning.....
Note to all who love me: If no one is dead, don't call between 1am-9am. Thanks!

Blog Review: The Singing Detective
Starring - RDJ, Mel Gibson among many others. You know, I know that I'm risking ridicule just MENTIONING this movie on this forum, still, I'm doing it. It's good to rent a movie with the expectation that it's just going to SUCK. This movie did not suck, it was long but interesting. Even JK watched it. RDJ was cute as can be. Watch it for yourself.

I don't know who changed the blog....odd. Today I haven't done much...made Ina's plum raspberry crumble that I'm about to eat with vanilla ice cream. I'm watching "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf".....love the Albee.
I STILL KNOW IT JENN!!!
Hmm who changed the blog? I like it, except my avatar is gone!!! So is leigh's.
So Friday we went to Belfast to the AG movie. It was ok, but we all felt he should have stuck to the facts and left the politics out of it (at least the politics involving him). After, we had a delicious dinner at some seafood place. It was amazingly good too, because we figured, by the look of it, it would be subpar tourist trap overcooked seafood.
We had the steamed clams for an app and they were DELICIOUS. Then i had fried oysters with a salad, jk had haddock, janyce had a mandarin chicken salad and jerry had the veggie casserole. We enjoyed it thoroughly. Yesterday I spend the afternoon with GG shopping and we had a good time. We lunched at the new pizza hut bistro, and, while the pizza was just as you'd expect, it was WAY too noisy in there, AND they don't serve the personal pizza in the pan anymore.
Today we worked all day. That's about it.
4th plans
In case you were wondering what I'm doing on the 4th itself, here it is. I'm going to wake up, take a shower, go to mom and dad's, eat too many donuts, do the parade thang (is there a parade this year? I assume there is), chill, go to camp, drink, eat, swim, repeat.
I hope I get to see everyone!

AH HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
That is DISGUSTING! Men are dirty...they feel like they have to put their damned mark on everything. GAWD! (Of course, you do go out of your way to mention that you and John are in different parts of the barn at the time...I can't help but wonder....)
LOOK AWAYYYYYY!!!!
That said, don't say I didn't warn you. I'll warn you again. You DO NOT want to read this story, so look away....better yet....turn off your computer you do NOT want to read this. ....you've been warned!!! Don't say I didn't warn you because I did...several times....
Today JK and I had errands to run so we did them. We delivered Leigh's camera and ran our various errands. In the course of these errands we decided to look in some junk shops. So. We stopped at this antique store and were browsing around very innocently. We were in separate parts of the shop which is a "barn". I was looking at old pictures when I heard the sound of running water. I thought it was curious, then I realized it was even MORE curious because it was water running out of a human. I averted my eyes and TRIED to avert my ears to no avail. Then I heard "Honey, where are you?". "Over here.", HE replies. He ZIPS UP HIS FLY and walks out around the wall. Yes, dear reader it is 100% true. This 65-70 year old GROWN UP MAN PEED INSIDE THE ANTIQUE STORE. I don't know what else can be said. I was in SHOCK. JK and I promptly LEFT the establishment.
This is the first day in forever that I really haven't accomplished much. It has been quite lovely. It is 93 outside--feels like 96. THAT is NOT lovely.

Or should it just be called, "America's Got Commericals?"
I deem it unwatchable. There are more commercials then entertainers.
Well if you decide you're an NBA fan I am not sure what I'll do. You have completely given yourself over to sports. Sports, bridge, and disaster movies....who are you?
Bridge Report
Bridge was held at the home of Nonie. We started VERY late because some people forgot it was bridge night. The cards weren't as sucky as last week, but they weren't great either. I DID hear that SuzyQ got a grand slam, which probably contributed greatly to her high score. I don't have a clue who was low, but I got goose. Nonie served strawberry shortcake which was delish. AVGTWHBA despite the pouring rain and not getting out until after 10.
It was ok though because I got to come home and watch the Heat win the NBA championship and you know I would never have done that if I weren't all wound up. I'm slightly worried though, because I was actually interested in the fourth quarter and even asked JK to move his foot a few times so I could see better. I recognize these symptoms from my beginning to like football and you know how that has worked out. Shaq looks really good doesn't he?

I know Dad doesn't prefer them, but I want raised donuts. Those puppies were SO good. I wish i could bring Will up for July 4 but I think he starts a new rotation that week. More donuts for me. I've already told Ellen that I'm staying at her house that week. I can't believe it's only 10 days away--I can't wait to see my kids!
Oh yeah, we could use another fryer if anyone has one to lend....just a big pot with a burner under it would do fine.
Well, apparently congratulations are in order. Congrats Sean, on finding employment south of Arroostook County. I hope you are very happy wherever you are. Congratulations also to Liam for getting a buzz cut. I can't wait to see you.
Who's coming home for the fourth? Apparently doughnuts WILL be processed at Orlie's house.

I am at work. Why on a Sunday, you ask? Because it is 95 degrees and I wanted the most air-conditioned place I could find this afternoon. This is it. Now I'm going out shopping, Jen needs shoes (not a word, I haven't bought a new pair of shoes in almost a year!)

Well, today I got up super-early and took T to the airport. Then I did some grocery shoppping, took out the garbage, and cleaned and did laundry. Then was the obligatory nap. I think tonight I'll watch a Netflix. Napoleon Dynamite was just on HBO and of course I watched it.
I did the most PAINFUL thing last night. I got up in the middle of the night to pee, and stepped on my bra---the eye hooks took a chunk out of my foot! OUCH! The bra, of course, is unharmed. My foot? Looks like it got caught in a dog's mouth.

Well, now that Big Ben is out of the woods, I'd really like to yell at him, but I won't. I'm glad he's better and will play this year, apparently. Thank blog. My weekend is busy with family and friends, looking forward to the nice weather.
Maddy's rehearsal went very well, overall. GG brought her a beautiful rose which she loves. I have to say though, that kid is starting to look too grown up. What are you doing this weekend?
Thursday, June 15, 2006
Well, this week has been hell. I have been working SO much. And I just got off the Nordictrack and I'm all sweaty. I'm going to have tortellini and pesto for suppah.
The weirdest thing happened this weekend...I went through the Wendy's drivethrough for a soda, and a white person served me! I did a double take.
I'm so glad that Snoop's coming back with me in July. We'll have big fun, she's so smoothe, and creamy....
Bowers Reunion Cookbook Recipe of the Day
These are VERY easy and delicious.
toffee squares
Jeanette Turner
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 pkg. chocolate bits
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Heat oven to 350. Cream butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method. Stir in flour and salt thoroughly. Spread in 13 x 10 rectangle in greased baking sheet. (Leave about 1 “ around edge of baking sheet. Bake 20 - 25 minutes. It will still be soft. Remove from oven. Immediately put chocolate bits over the top. Let stand until soft. (I generally place in oven for a few seconds) Spread evently over surface, sprinkle wiht nuts, cut into squares while still hot.
RK's notes:
When you spread them out it's easiest to use your extremely clean and freshly washed hands to do the job. Spread them pretty thin because they're very rich. The batter seems too dry but it's supposed to be.
Well, I made lemon bars and they came out awful. Now I'm trying my luck at "toffee squares" from the brcb. I'll post the recipe if it comes out well.

Bridge Report
Bridge was hosted by me at Suzanne's house. Suzanne was working the polls, but luckily we had Hopie for a special guest. The cards SUCKED. I got the actual low (and I NEVER get low) though Aunt Lil got the prize for low. The snack was chex mix with all kinds of other stuff mixed in, and, the ubiquitous popcorn. The treat was this chocolate cake that I'll never make again, though it was ok. It was called "valerie's cake". It was baked with a meringue baked on top and frosted with whipped cream. Next week, bridge is at Nonie's.

Verizon Customer "Service"
Phones, Devices, PDAs - Verizon Wireless
Please wait for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Your expected wait time is '0'. Thank you for your patience!
A Verizon Wireless online pre-sales specialist has joined the chat. You are now chatting with 'Sheryl'
Sheryl: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: you don't sell colored razr phones anymore?
Sheryl: I'd be happy to help you with that.
Sheryl: We currently only have the Gray Razr. The Pink was closed out by Motorola.
Sheryl: You may be able to find a face plate for it somewhere though.
Sheryl: I hear they have a huge number of those, but not through our website.
You: well the guy at circuit city told me that face plates are not recommended for the razr
Sheryl: You would need to do some research but I hear there are a lot of cool face plates.
Sheryl: I have not heard whether they are recommended.
You: but if i change the face plate, the phone isn't covered under warantee, is that right?
Sheryl: That may very well be the case.
You: well then i wouldn't want to do that, would i?
Sheryl: Well that is a personal choice.
You: i'm not really satisfied with that answer....but that's not something you care about i guess

Well, my weekend went pretty well considering the weather. Friday night I was very bored and decided to go to Bangor after all. Leigh graced me with her company and we went to Thai Siam. I don't know why i don't take my camera with me when I go out to eat. Anyway we had an INCREDIBLY delectible dinner. We both highly recommend the "garlic leaves" they're not AT ALL what you expect and they have the best sauce on the face of the earth. Leigh and I both decided to be daredevils and order something we'd never had (we ALWAYS get the same thing). I had yellow curry and it was so delicious i was actually sad to leave streaks of sauce on the plate. I REALLY could have licked the dish, and would have if there weren't people sitting across the aisle from us.
Of course, we could only eat one spoonful each because we'd eaten so much garlic leaf and dumplings.
Saturday JK, Maddy and I went to a lovely wedding. AVGTWHBA.
Today nothing much happened. I went for a good walk, got groceries and visited georgia.

So sometime around 5, Will called and decided to take the train down here. I decided to go to Wegman's and get cherries and make him a cherry pie. I don't even LIKE cherry pie, but whatever. SO I made it while I waited. At midnight I went to the metro to pick him up....we decided that we needed a slurpee run before we went home. So we basically slept until lunch time and then I took him to Red Robin (of course). He LOVED it. Then we did some errands and came back here and tried a sliver of pie. He loved that as well, but now I have this whole cherry pie here. I admit it is way too runny--it is too runny to take to work. I know I'm going to end up throwing it out, but even I enjoyed it. I will be having warm cherry pie with vanilla bean ice cream (Edy's Grand Vanilla Bean for $1.99! Gotta love Wegman's) for suppah, while I watch a combo of netflix--Monty Python, Aristocrats, and my newest dvd purchase, KITH season 3.
Man, oh man, am I ever tired. SO this is what I have been up to. My boss was out Mon-Thurs so I was working like a DOG. I mean, really I didn't even have time to leave for lunch--and for me, that is really busy. I usually have at least time to go to SUBWAY or something, but not last week. It was hellacious. Friday I had the day off. I spent a lot of the day doing nothing, but around 2 RK convinced me to leave the house, so I went and got a french mani. It was pre-teen day at the nail salon. There were 8 tweens there getting their nails done the same time as me....8 tweens, about 5 housefraus, and me....gettin the nails done. It was funny. I had a frappuccino while I did that. There was this group of 4 8 or 9 year olds all there having manis together...the dad of one of them was videotaping the event. They explained to me that it was raining, so the pool was out...manis were in. Then this other couple of girls explained to me that the parafin doesn't really hurt, but "if you ask them to they will make a wax sculpture of your hand. I did it in long beach."

My mother and your mother were hanging out clothes. My mother punched your mother right in the nose. What color was the blood?
I don't know why I just thought of that.... Do any of you remember any jumprope rhymes?
I wish you people could see the local commercials here. Particularly for Easterns motors...those are pretty priceless. Maybe they are on their website at www.Easterns.com. There's also a car insurance co. that has a name similar to Geico...like, Gecco or something...they have this rap video--when I first saw it, I thought it was a spoofy Geico spot. It was actually a REAL commercial--i couldn't believe it.

OH MY GOD I want pink salad! I LOVE that crap--and you know, if you don't go to family reunions, you just don't get it...because really, who wants to eat a whole bowl of it yourself?
Anyway, happy birthday RR, I shall light my Raspberry Roses candle tonight in your honor (yes, I really do have one).
Bowers Reunion Cookbook Recipe of the Day
Pink Salad
9 oz. Cool Whip
1 lb. cottage cheese (1 prefer small curd)
9 oz. crushed pineapple, drained
3 oz. box red jello
Mix Cool Whip, cottage cheese, drained pineapple in large bowl. Pour on at least 1/2 the box dry jello (You may add more depending on the color you want). Mix all together and there you have it! Simple but satisfying! Great for public suppers, picnics or just any time. Different colors may be made by varying the jello flavors.
Bridge Report
Bridge was held at the home of Helen, with all the regulars in attendance. Helen made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies I've had in a LONG time. I won high, Gram goose, and I think Lil got low though I don't really remember. Dean made the BEST coffee (as usual, which is why I ALWAYS attend bridge at Helen's). The cards weren't very exciting at all.

PerezHilton.com -- VIDEO EXCLUSIVE - Madonna "Just Give Me a Fan or Something"
Here ya go, Snoop--love her if you want.
National Spelling Bee? UNwatchable. Except for when there's only two people left. The girls were both adorable. One had the biggest apple cheeks ever. She didn't win. They did these Olympic-style bios of some of the spellers...that was just time filler.
This weekend? I got nuthin. Maybe if it's bearable I'll go to the National Gallery--I haven't been there in a while. If it's not bearable maybe I'll go see a movie, but NOT the DUH vinci code.
I have a new addiction.
Raw milk.
You get it at the natural living center, and it's wonderful. It tastes like a combination of ice cream with a touch of grass in it. That lets you know it actually came from a cow and it's wonderful. You take the cream off the top and use it in your coffee. Then you drink the wonderful milk underneath. It's not pasteurized or homogonized but somehow, it feels healthier anyway.

Well we're having all sorts of lightening and thunder, but no rain yet--which we need..the grass is all brown. This summer is going to SUCK...it's already been 100 a few times here and the humidity is ungodly.
Tonight I'm going to watch the spelling bee finals. That's when you KNOW there is nothing on tv.
